Wes Brown Testimonial
Comments (21)
I could see the point of Phil Neville when he came down the road but if the press reports of Wes Brown turning up for £3m, or even on a free, are true when we're supposedly so strapped for cash then serious questions will have to be asked of both Moyes (for buying) and Kenwright (for sanctioning the deal).
'He would 'prefer a move to Everton' ? I'd prefer to win the fucking Lottery. If a precious £3m is to be pissed away on that hapless, over-the-hill tosser to give him one last payday, Everton will have lost a fair slice of self-respect in my book.

He's 31 and a defender.
How many more aging defenders do we need? Better spend the money on a youngster who's only going to increase in value.
I suspect Man U are doing him a favour and the £3M will go straight into his pocket! Can`t see this one happening though.
Does Moyes know how to spell or say striker? You have to wonder as the only players we ever get seriously linked to are out and out defenders or defensive ....... fill in the blank.
Can you imagine him on the phone to other managers or scouts?
"Hello it's David Moyes here, I'm looking for a s-s-s-s-s-s-t-t-t-t-t ah fuck it send me another defender"
Wes Brown wasn't that good when he first arrived at United and he hasn't got any younger or better.
What ever the question is, the answer is not Wes Brown.
I wouldn't touch the required barge pole with an even longer barge pole and a pair of rubber gloves.
The only statement I have heard from Moyes this summer is not to believe it unless it comes from him. A story in the Daily Mail says that Wes Brown wants to come to Everyon and all of a sudden Moyes is getting shit. See the inconsistency? Do yourself a favour and take the man at his word. If you don't hear it from him, there's probably nothing in it. Isn't he in Barbados with Phil Neville at the moment anyway? Pinch of salt!
Really hope this one isn't true. On a freebie maybe but for £3m...depending on what you believe that might be half our transfer budget!! For a 31 year second/third choice centre back.
No thanks.
Brown is a hopeless CB. He is however a useful RB.
I would take him on a free but certainly not for 3m!
Doubt it's true though as where would that leave Moyes's Lover Neville!
Strapped for cash and buying garbage.
I can see a pattern emerging here.
Why are we always linked with UTDs cast aways, it's becomming a joke now.
I can fully understand where Fellani is coming from with his "sub-top" comments, even though, with signing like this prove we aren't "sub top".
We do indeed need new fresh faces in the team but please ones that are going to invigorate / provide a boost not a ageing crock.
Please please, let it not be true.
Hibbert is a better right back - if Brown signs Hibbert has every right to be pissed off - considering Hibbert is only 2nd choice right back behind Neville - it seems a stupid signing if it is to happen - and he certainly wont go straight in the team either at center half. What are the odd on wes brown as a new holding midfielder away v spurs - wouldnt fuckin surprise me - i would prefer John Oshea if it has to be another man u cast off - at least o shea can cover at left back and does actually ok as a defensive midfielder
Moyes will probably buy Brown and shoehorn him into midfield, we can then have a midfield made up entirely of defenders ala Walter Smith. Imagine a Coleman, Brown, Heitinga and Neville midfield next season, its enough to break out in a cold sweat.
I dont know why fans get stressed -out over paper talk, watching some of our football is stressful enough.
Chill out as the young ones say.
We have enough journey men and never-have-beens, never-will-bes...
Gavin, define a serious link? Demba Ba? Klose? Bothroyd? The lad from Peterborough? Are they less serious than Brown or is it what we choose to believe? Did Moyes not sign Beattie, Johnson, Bent and Yakubu?
Like most I don't see the sense in Brown but I'll give my opinion and save my opinion for when he's signed on the dotted line, not when the Mail break the exclusive.
I totally agree with Jon # 11.....DM has already stated his commitment to lowering the age of our pitifully thin squad so lets 'suck it and see' before we fill the columns with a diatribe of 'woe is me'.....if Brown can be had on a free then it is good business.
BUT...we must strengthen our squad with a decent striker with low mileage on the clock and a wideman who can beat his man and cross the ball....
If Brown can play left back he could be cover for Baines !!!!!!!
The sad thing is would anyone actually be suprised if he does arrive? Did anyone realistically expect Ba or N'Zogbia to go to Everton? It's every summer being like this that is the hardest for us fans. As Gav says what is it with old defenders and never any strikers. Wasn't it thsi tiem ;last year we were told by Neville etc and all new signing would arrive early, makes me fucking sick!
Well for one thing there are always at least 4 defenders on the pitch and for most squads today only 1 striker. So you have a 4:1 chance of being linked to a defender as opposed to a striker. So there is that. Then there is Moyes signing two strikers last season in Beckford and the young Greek kid. Actually might have been 3 if that Portuguese kid arrived last season too. Then in the previous seasons we signed Saha, Yakubu, Johnson, Beattie, Bent. As for defenders in the past 3-4 years, we've signed Lescott, Baines, Neville, Heitinga, Distin, Jagielka, and Coleman if you really want to count him as a defender, even though he's never played there and is quite an attacking player.
Not bad purchases at all by Moyes as far as defenders go, and hardly a crazy amount. Seems to me he can say striker just as well as defender. Of course, given that 4:1 ratio I mentioned earlier supply and demand economics would mean that they would be much more expensive than the load of defenders always available. And the prices of the likes of Torres and Carroll last season would seem to prove that. Now I think we're getting somewhere. So Everton is very low on money, can't afford too much transfer fees, so therefore couldn't afford to constantly be buying 2-3 new expensive strikers every season. But you know what, I'm sure it's just that Moyes hates strikers, or can't pronounce the word, or whatever else is simple enough for you to think of and type on a forum. I'm sure Moyes would love to field a midfield of all defenders and leave out Fellaini, Arteta, Cahill, Rodwell, Osman, Bilyaletdinov when all fit.
Brown will arrive along with David Weir as a new coach.
Expect a new band of expansive attacking football......................my fucking arse.
What was that Moyes said about believing it when he says it......
Perhaps the point I should have stressed was the language in which the piece was couched (doubtless spread from 'his people') - an ageing, never really any good, so-what of a player expressing his wish to move on to Everton, as though we're a rest home for SAF's cast-offs to see out their twilight years.
Jesus. I can't believe Moyes is being lambasted for signing Wes Brown, when all there is to it so far is a rumour in a worthless rag, i.e. The Sunday Mirror.
If he does sign then, lambast away. I know a lot of people on here love the critise Moyes , but come on.
If it does actually happen, it means Johnny H. is away somewhere for a decent few quid.
