Season 2011-12

A Lack of Confidence throughout the Squad
It seems that, this season, the Everton squad has been rife with doubt and uncertainty. Players such as Jagielka and Baines, who would usually be expected to be the ones holding the team up and providing defensive security, have been suspect so far this season.
Especially over the last few weeks, it seems to be confidence that is getting the team down. Seamus Coleman is not getting the service he was used to from Arteta and his game is suffering because of it. The players on the outskirts of our squad are not up to standard because we never see them. Players like Gueye and Stracqualursi surely deserve a chance?
It is obvious to see that players that have confidence in the team; Rodwell has been consistently solid all season (despite Moyes evidentally telling him to stop the surging runs that we were used to a couple of years ago), Distin has been a gem in our defence this season, holding our team together some matches, and Drenthe seems to be a new addition to the squad who has fit in extremely well, and looks like the flair player that we are desperately short of.

There is only one way you're heading when you sell quality players and don't replace them.
Still, Bill is a blue and his uncle used to bring Bill on his handle bars to Goodison and that's all that matters. Ha!
Coleman's final ball has got worse and, being a regular now after a full season, fans are not so forgiving. Coleman will still be a useful player if he can improve his final ball and stay positive going forward imo.
On the little I have seen of Vellios and Gueye, they have a chance of making a impact... although it's asking a lot at the moment given how we have started the season.
I expected to see more of Barkley who looks our best prospect after starting the season well out of position... maybe around Xmas he could have been rested but a couple of games in and spending more time on the pitch for the reserves and England's junior teams? I don't see how these decisions by Moyes benefit Everton or the player.

The only bright spots in recent games are Rodwell's coming of age and Drenthe's pace & energy. Moyes needs to stop feeling sorry for himself (difficult, I know when you on a paltry £65k per week) and pick up his troops. There is a good team somewhere in all the above names and it is Moyes job to find the winning mantra.
