Bily set to leave for Russia in January

18 months too late, should have sold him summer 2010 when it was clear the manager didn't rate him and was not going to play him regularly.

Just hope we can get some cash for him.

Elaine, I'll carry his bag and check him in.

He's just not up to it in the Premier League and he will never make the grade.

I've always felt a little sorry for Bily. He clearly doesn't suit the Premer League and I think it would be best for both club and player if he moved on. Saying that, I do rate him as a footballer and when he does eventually go, he will leave with the memories of some great strikes.

Good player, wrong club, wrong league, wrong manager.

He has scored a few spectacular goals has our Billy; I agree, he is either grossly out of position or the Premier League is too fast and physical for him.

Bet you he would do well at a football team like Arsenal. David 'Gordon Lee' Moyes is out of his depth with players like Bily.

Even out on the wing he will thread in good passes to the penalty area when it looks like it is not possible to get a good ball in. Trouble is we don't like too many men in the opposition box so they usually come to nothing.

Moyes is putting me off football.

Yet anotheer skilful player out of the door. Lescott, Pienaar, Arteta and now Bilyaletdinov, yet people still wonder why the quality of our football is bad. It's because we've replaced those artists with functional athletes like Rodwell and Fellaini who have little to no creativity, plenty of aimless running and nice sideways passing but will never skip between 2 or 3 before curling it in or putting it on a plate for someone else.

Soon we'll be no better than the Boltons of this league because of Moyes's refusal to play creative players in the centre of the pitch. How does Neville or Heitinga ever get in ahead of Osman or Bilyaletdinov in centre mid?

James, with all due respect i think your talking garbage. When was the last time Billy skipped between 3 players and put the ball on the plate for someone? Never is the answer! If he was doing that at all, let alone often, then he would be playing.

Moyes didn't want to sell Pienaar or Arteta, they were financial decisions and to say Fellaini is purely an athlete is ridiculous. He is perhaps our one player who always looks to take the ball down and play the ball on the deck.

Moyes has nearly always tried to play a creative player in the middle with Osman or Arteta the usual picks. he has been forced to sell of players because of an untenable financial situation and to be fair he hasn't kicked up a huge fuss about it.

As for Billy...I remember being really excited when he signed but he seems to lack the passion and work ethic for the Premier League. A talented player no doubt but frustrating to watch. Hopefully he moves off, does well and we end up with a decent return. I reckon at his age we should be looking for around £6-8m, presumably from the cash rich Russians....

Bily may be good at a non contact sport like netball, for me he has been a complete waste of money. Hes like a rabbit stuck in car head lights. If you think differently then you haven't any time at Goodison (unless we have renamed it Kenwrights Folly, sold for ten pence, like the Barcodes since the last home game)

Bye Bye Bily you won't be missed

Sam, am not sure we will get anywhere near 6-8m for Billy. After all he cost us 9m 2.5 years ago (by the time we get to Jan).

He only has a year left on his contract at the end of this season, hardly ever plays, has not been great when he has played and the world knows we are skint and in debt.

Think we will be really lucky to get more than around 3m unless we can somehow con them out of some oil money. Jan is not far away I suppose and if the club are going to do a deal, would be great to sort it out now and not the 29th Jan.

Denis, you may be right but i have a feeling that Billy's stock is still quite high in Russia, he is still in the national squad, and although he hasn't played much he has still shown his talent with some thunderbolt strikes.

If he goes to Russia i would expect 5m at the mimimum, although the short contract is a concern. Whatever happens i would be very disappointed to get less than 4m for a 26 year old current Russian international.

I saw what I think was his debut in the Europa League. He looked awesome and I was envisaging that sweet left foot to bring back the good old days of Sheedy or Hinchcliffe.

Subsequently it's been his goal haul verses the way he has no sense of urgency and can make us a 10 man team.

I really hoped this would be his season but alas he has the talent but not the drive.

So frustrating but I suspect Moyes won't be bothered letting him go although this one will be black mark against him on the signings front as Bily (please correct me if I'm wrong) is the third most expensive player we've bought behind the Yak and Fellaini.

He's what I call a' training ground player'. You can imagine him knocking in 35-yard screamers with both feet in to the top corner all the time... but the Premier League is played at 100 mph and you get kicked shit out of and Bily boy just isn't up to it. Think he cost about £9m and was regular Russian international 2 years ago. Now he can't even get off the bench befor McFadden and is only a sub for Russia so I can't imagine recouping much money for him

Say what you like about Bily, he's been a model professional in dealing with the media.

Despite severe provocation he has kept his own counsel unlike some, which I respect.

I'd like to think he would be a good player for us in a year or two when we are playing more expansive stuff and he could play in the middle but equally he might never make the grade.

Dissapointng when he does have a good game, like the last time out, he still gets pulled off and dropped for the next match which must be extremely frustrating for him.

To his further credit, he clearly wants to play football and isn't happy to sit and pick up his money.

Purely from a footballing business decision it would have made sense to sell Bily in the summer and instead have kept Beckford. Atleast with Beckford we'd ahve had some pace up front and another striker to pick from. Bily doesn't even come on the bench most of the time and when he does has made no impact this season.

Sam I wasn't saying Moyes sold them on purpose, I'm just saying we haven't replaced any of our lost creativity. Bilyaletdinov has never had a run in the centre of the team, Osman barely gets a game in one of the two central positions, only ever wasted off the front men. It takes a lot for Moyes to trust a skilful player in central positions. Arteta started out wide, as did/does Osman, Donovan was never given a central role. Bilyaletdinov and Drenthe haven't had a sniff of the middle and Barkley has only come on as a winger despite being a central player.

Moyes does however seem to find no risk in playing people like Heitinga, Neville and Rodwell in there. What must Bily be thinking when someone who can barely pass a ball like Neville is starting ahead of you? Or when Fellaini gets the nod over you in that position behind the striker that you've played in for Russia just because he's a big guy who can cause some problems in the penalty area.

Whether you blame Moyes or not the reality is we've ended up with a midfield who don't know how to treat the ball properly. I mean when Neville Heitinga and Cahill are in the same midfield three what hope do we have of keeping possession and winning games? None, its just put out there to physically compete with teams and hopefully not lose. How could a midfield of Barkley and Biyaletdinov ahead of a Rodwell/ Fellaini not be a better footballing option?

Deserved more of a go in my opinion. He has the ability to change games with the 2 or 3 instances that he actually gets something right. For the last couple of years we've been needing that in the games where we have 60% possession with no cutting edge.

Overall he goes down as a disappointment, and will stand as Moyes biggest transfer blunder. But I can't help but feel we didn't really give him a chance. He lacks pace so we stick him on a wing and play direct behind the full back ? it just highlighted his weaknesses and made him loil even worse than he is.

Anyway ? rebuild time now and we can't afford him financially or on the pitch in terms of his lack of overall contribution. As said above, £4-5 mil, while a significant loss, would look reasonable.

Äèíèÿð Áèëÿëåòäèíîâ - 63 - Diniyar Bilyaletdinov for all those bily detractors have a look at this 4 minute you tube vid and then come back on here and say the guy is shit. You will notice that he plays in centre midfield, takes free kicks with either foot, and has a terrific shot. he reminds me of Duncan Mckenzie and that fuckwit Gordon Lee wouldn't play him either. Moyes and Gordon Lee = dull boring shit football.

I'd be sad to see him go but wouldn't blame him if he did. It seems like most peoples preference is for 'huff and puff' type players who put in a 'shift' and that's fair enough - but not at the expense of some flair. Yes, he looks lost on the flank - but when he drifts inside he's a different player, quick feet and great passing. I think when McFadden got a start ahead of him, he knew it was the end. Shame.

I had big hopes for Bily but sadly it looks like he is leaving.

I could never understand why Moyes played him on the left when he never, ever performed that well there.

He looked better on the right where he could cut inside.

I've said before that i think we should have at least TRIED playing Bily wide right and Seamus at right back.

Bily could come inside on his thunderbolt left foot and Seamus could overlap with his labrador like enthusiasm.

Yeah we would concede goals but we concede sloppy goals anyway so at least bloody try something new.

I just don't understand it.

Another player with undoubted ability that we just haven't utilised properly.

I will be watching Bily at Euro '12(if he goes) and he will probably smash a couple in. A couple of wonder goals most likely. Then get transferred for £15 mill after we have sold him for pittance in January. Just our luck.

James Martin @23... I don't enjoy seeing the likes of Neville and Heitinga in central midfield either, believe me, but the way Moyes sets us up to play is with one or two players to protect the back four. This isn't uncommon: De Jong and Barry for Man City; Fletcher Carrick for Man Utd, Song for Arsenal etc.

These have to be players who are sound defensively and work hard to close down space and win headers. In an ideal world, they would have creative capacities as well but that's not their primary job.

The likes of Bily and Ossie don't have the qualities to play that role. It's as simple as that. Ossie has played a lot in a further forward central role and perhaps Bily should be played there but you can';t have a go at Moyes for not playing lighweight creative players in what is essentially a defensive midfielders role. Besides which, I believe Fellaini is just as composed and good on the ball as either Bily or Ossie, his technique if great and he always looks to get the ball down and play it.

Sam - agree that a holding CM is needed for the way we play but unfortunately neither Heitinga nor Neville is a CM, they are both defenders.

Have no issue playing Rodwell or Fellaini in that position but I could quite happliy not see either Heitinga or Neville play in CM again. Always cringe when we start the game with either in CM, and heaven forbid both at the same time.

The manager has also had numerous pre-season and CC games in which to experiment with the likes of Bily and others in the middle instead of the wing, maybe he has. Either way, we'll never know I guess.

Good luck to Bily, like him or not, I don't think he was ever given a real shot, i.e. a good run in the side and not the odd cameo.

It is obvious that Bily sees his best role as in the hole. Moyes plays a clearly out of form Cahill there in preference so Bily won't ever get a look in.

He will be another that got away, the lad is clearly a player with ability, probably more ability than anyone else in that squad. I have not seen an Everton player strike a ball as sweetly as him for years and he reminds me of Le Tissier. And with players like this you build teams to accomodate them, you don't change players to fit into a flawed gameplan in a position that they clearly don't suit.

I have seen him play for Russia ad he looks totally different. This was in the same way as Gravesen used to flourish for Denmark and come back and play shite for us. When Moyes finally freed Gravesen from any defensive responsibilities he started to perform. The same is needed for Bily but it won't happen.

I hope he goes for his sake, he is wasting his career under Moyes. Good luck to the lad.
