Everton too small for Gignac

02/02/2012 | Comments (30)
Andre-Pierre Gignac says he turned down the chance to join Everton in January because the club is not big enough.

The 26-year-old was the subject of much speculation during the January transfer window but opted to stay with Marseille rather than move to England with Everton.

Gignac is out of favour with the French club but clearly has a high opinion of himself after declaring he would only move to a top four club in the Premier League.

"Everton is a top Club in England but for me Marseille is bigger and more attractive," Gignac told skysports.com. "I want to play one day abroad but at a bigger club like the Manchester Uniteds of this world.

"I do want to make a name for myself at Marseille. I love the club."

This headline seems more sensational and dismissive of us than his actual quotes.

This guy looked so out of his depth at the World Cup it was embarrassing. Can't imagine he would offer too much more than we have.

Would a Frenchman swap the Mediterranean and champions league for 10th place cold-up-north mediocrity?

Thats actually rather funny. What an arrogant and in football terms - ignorant thing to say. He'll probably end up at somewhere like Wigan. Prick.

Don't see what the lad has said that is wrong, he's ambitious, and at the end of the day, we're not a big club.

Keep dreaming, lad ? I think you actually have to play decent consistent football to get signed up by the likes of Man Utd.... That's him screwed then!

We are a big club. There is a difference between being a big club and having current succesful team though. It is more attractive to play for a team in the top 4, but if wigan were in the top 4 they would not be a bigger club, they would have a more succesful current team, there is a difference.

He is dire! Absolutely spot on Andrew Ellams. He traps the ball further than most players can kick it. A pure mule. I would sign Gary Doherty before him.

The 'professionals' of today.

Can only see the glittery baubles right in front of their noses.

Like big, soft, dumb kids all of them.

"I want to play for them....no I mean THEM....oh no I mean the OTHER team".

Gignac Schmignac, hope he breaks both legs...at the thigh.

We may not fit the "big club" stereotype any more, but this guy is kidding himself if he thinks he's Premier League top four material. Can't even get into the team at Marseille for pete's sake!

Would he be available in January from a Club that doesn't need the money for financial reasons if he was quality? Anyway if he was any good Wenger would have snapped him up by now.Bendtner is another who talks himself up but fails to back his words up on the pitch were it matters.
