Sacha Boey emerges as an option to bolster the full-back position
Everton are reportedly eyeing a move for Bayern Munich’s Sacha Boey to reinforce the right-back position, according to reliable German reporter Christian Falk.
Boey, signed from Galatasaray in 2024, failed to cement a regular starting spot at the club. He also had a disagreement with manager Vincent Kompany in recent weeks after the manager wanted to bring him on as a substitute in a game, but Boey wasn’t ready.
With that being said, it is believed that Boey feels comfortable in Munich, where he’s on a hefty salary and doesn’t wish to leave the club in January.
"Everton, Marseille and Lyon hold interest in Sacha Boey. There is interest, especially from France! But Boey doesn’t want to move! So everyone is a little irritated. But the fact of the matter is he’s currently earning a lot of money at Bayern. They also paid a big transfer fee for him. I don’t know why, but he’s feeling confident in Munich," reported Christian Falk.
The right-back slot has been a headache for the Toffees. Jake O’Brien, a centre-back, has been Everton’s first choice in that position since David Moyes returned a year ago. While O’Brien’s defensive reading is excellent, he hardly looks comfortable in the buildup and in advanced positions.
In recent games, though, Nathan Patterson has done quite well as a right-back after O’Brien returned to his natural position to replace the suspended Keane. Patterson, however, has been with the club since 2022 and doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to reliability. Club captain Seamus Coleman is also in the twilight of his career and has suffered from persistent injury problems of late.

Jack Grealish has become an expensive commodity and, despite some decent early games, is not likely to be around for next season.
Loan deals are likely to be the norm for a while.

Can't risk training with Michael Keane.

Didnt mean to the impression I had given up on him but only was making the point we hadnt used him. I was at the game and yes he was exciting going forward but he was bought as a defender and we dont know his defensive strengths. Would be into see if he can fit into Jacks role. He would definitely move the ball faster but the key question is will he retain it and use it effectively while at the same time use his defensive strengths to support Myko. Easy for me to speculate on the ditch but Moyes has to deal with the consequences if it fails. More fodder for TW 🤭😀

I am curious how you are of the opinion he can defend.
Have you seen him play at Bayern?

Silly I know, but these transfers over from American footy do amuse me.

Some of our fans will not hesitate to put the boot in on young players if they don't immediately set the sky alight, even as they settle into a new country. Why expose them to that, when they can be introduced carefully, and their confidence built up appropriately?

Pick a player whose natural position is one we need to cover. Say we are interested in him. Then point out that he is too expensive, on high wages, and settled in his location with no desire to leave.
Any chance of something other than crass, clickbait journalism on this site please?

We've always made it very clear that rumours and links of players supposedly being considered, as reported or claimed by others, are just that — Firm intention? Rampant speculation?? Or just complete invention??? Who knows...
We certainly don't claim any insider knowledge, nor do we vet the sources, so you are going to see all sorts of stories about possible transfers. Historically, very, very few of the names mooted ever come off. But some do.
Only thing is, in this transfer window, we've had two senior staff tell us we won't be doing much business, so it is tempting to stand behind that and say it is all utter garbage.
We have the choice to ignore any or all of this stuff. But something tells me you'd be jumping on us if we hadn't told about someone who then signs for the club.

I also think Patterson has done quite well for us and, for me, he was one of the better players against Sunderland in the FA Cup (I can hear the comments of: "That wouldn't be hard!"). I was close to his side in the first half and thought he did well.
Like all full-backs they need support when defending, especially if they decide to overlap to support the attack and the attack breaks down. I would give him time and hope he beds in and stays injury-free.
