The Mail Bag
One man and his Everton dream
Comments (7)
Just a short Mail Bag item to express my warm and genuine appreciation to one man and his Everton dream?.
No, not the founding father of the club.
No, not Dr David France.
No, not David Moyes.
My thanks go to the ?average teenager? as one newspaper article described him ? that teenager being John Shearon.
All of us by now must have read the fabulous story of how he developed an interest in the Everton from Chile whilst in University in Mexico.
It?s a brilliant journey, with, as we can see form todays match ? a brilliant ending.
Anyone who supports ?Everton? will win today ? be they Chilean, Uraguayan, Argentinian or just plain old English.
John; many, many, thanks from one Evertonian living in Texas who knows you have achieved your original dream.

Good showing by FC but CD came to play as well but faded second half, perhaps because of the travel.
I for one would love for Everton to do a South American tour sometime, and to follow them around, but their league schedules might be a problem.
Now if we had a winter break in England ...
... all in all a fabulous and enchanting story and one which we would do well to continue to nurture, good will is a priceless commodity (is that an oxymoron?) and South America has a rich vein of talent ...
and Julian (5), i've did hear "everton de liverpool" a bit in Chile - it certainly made me shudder!
He mentioned John a couple of times in our chat.
I really think this is an opportunity to establish our name in Latin America.
As the chant used to go..."Whats our name...EVERTON " !!!
This is ment as a constructive comment , there were about 170 Chilenos in the crowd and some fine words spoken at the end.....next time a Spanish translation might be nice .
Vamonos los azules!
