Apparently Robbie Savage cites not joining Everton as one of his biggest regrets. Well as far as I'm concerned he's the only one who regrets it. Nasty and overrated are my lasting impressions.

The thing is with Savage is that supporters all around the country hated him. All except supporters of the clubs he played for.
You ask Leicester or Birmingham fans about Savage and they will tell you how good he was.
Its a little bit like the Neville brothers. Where ever they go around the country they are jeered by opposing supporters but you ask Man Utd or Everton fans about them and they will sing priases.

Was about to the same, Dick. The same applies for nearly all the nasty players really. However, I think it would have been a backward move, generally speaking, to have bought Savage although he may have been able to do a better job than Gravesen did with his second spell with us.
Its nice to see a professional player who has played at the top flight of English football for most of his career to look back and say the biggest regret was not coming to Everton. Over the years I have enjoyed seeing him play even though I think he is a bit of a nasty bastard.

When Robbie Savage was at his peak I' happily have seen him in an Everton shirt.
Tim Cahill - I think he's brilliantly nauseating to all of our opponents. How would I feel if he played for anyone else? I dread to think.
Exactly Gerry, you ask any other teams supporters and they will tell you how much they hate Cahill, so would we if he didn't play for us.
The big difference is whilst Cahill is an annoying player for opponents, he is also a top class footballer something Savage has never been.
True, David (#9), but be honest - would you enjoy his top class play for the opposition?
It's not his fault he wasn't a great footballer. He put the effort in more so than many others. So why give him stick? For getting stuck in?
Souness was the perfect example of a supposedly "top class" player who everyone hated playing against. I hated that guy so much and still do to this day. Horrible, dirty player. Obviously I also hated him twice as much when he was a Redshite.

A number of years ago Robbie Savage would have been a decent signing for us as we needed a tackling midfielder, The good news is now we are a much better side no longer in a relegation struggle needing a Savage type of player.
Like an afghan hound gone rabid ... I would guarantee that Blackburn offered more money and the git snatched it up. Regretting it now? Good! Carsley was a much better fit for us.
Gerry do not put Savage in the same league as Souness. Yes totally unpleasant-no change that to horrible bastard, but he was one of the best, if not the best midfielder in Europe.

At the time 03-04 when we where linked to Savage he would of done a very good job for Everton, don't forget he was part of the Blackburn team under Hughes that got to the FA cup semi finals and finished amongst the top 8.
I saw Savage come on as a sub for Derby against us at Goodison a few years back. Up to that point we were dominating the game and looked like we would hammer them. Within minutes of being on the pitch he had disrupted our flow and changed the direction of the game, we won one nil could have been more if the Yak could have scored from a few inches instead of blasting over the bar.
Savage was very good at doing a disrupting job as a player and in my book got a bad rep because of his relative success. He is not " a horrible, hooky-nosed, shit-stirring, thick-as-shite, blonde twat" as you state Eugene. Why insult a man who can see the virtues of our great club?

Luckily for us, Kenwright's 'joke bid' in the Summer of 2004 was laughed out of court by The Birmingham Porn King Sullivan and we spent the money on one Sir Timothy Cahill.

My uncle was 4th official for a recent Derby County friendly and he said Savage was an absolute twat - constantly whingeing to the ref, trying to get players booked in what was basically an exhibition match, whilst putting in a few rather late tackles himself. Saying that his passing was alright...

Can I mention one Tony Kay as a prime example of someone who was absolutely hated at Goodison until he signed for us and became the idol of the Goodison Road side.

You know he's not such a bad fella. I have had the pleasure of dealing with Mr Savage on a few occassions and he's genuinely a nice fella. Just one of the lads who can play a bit. No one is saying he is/was a world beater but at his peak he would have been better than some of our midfield options.
