A nice little interview published by the Guardian tonight about Mikel. Says he'll officially sign his 5-year contract tomorrow (Friday). Bit it's a nice little glimpse into the secretive world of Everton Football Club.
Interesting Arteta says, "...personally, [I] have been complaining to the chairman about how we need to improve this and that".

I'm very cynical and, having been burned by misplacing my trust in footballers before, I'm ready to put it all on the line once again.
I fuckin' love Mikel Arteta!
There is a lot of spin in football but that's nice to hear about our Manager and Chairman.

It brings me round to thinking that there really is something special about being an Evertonian. Why else would a succession of out-of-town players, who previously had no allegiance to the club, suddenly become committed to the cause and remain Blues after their playing career has finished - I'm thinking Alan Ball, Howard Kendall, Duncam McKenzie, Andy King, Ian Snodin, Graeme Stuart, Duncan Ferguson and now it would appear Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta.
Follow, Follow, Follow...!
Let's have a great season Mikel!
But...
We need to get the Pienaar business done. Appears to be a major disconnect between what his agent is saying and what the club is saying. It is more rational to tie up someone with less than 1 year left than someone with 2. But whatever's going on really should be sorted. Sounds like he really prefers to stay. He's brilliant for us. Get him signed up then we can al relax.
And last point; Can someone tell that bloated fuck of a porn king who runs West Ham to put something in his mouth before spouting the bollocks he does. I quote "...you look at Yakubu and you think £1m or £2m. but no more." This, after bidding £6m (we believe) and then returning with a bid of £5m.
Almost Monty Python-esque.
If we can raise around £10m from Yak and JV then I believe, and I think Moyes believes, that Loic Remy offers greater potential return on investment than Landon D. I still expect LD to rejoin us on loan.
I'd love us to go for broke on a proven goalscorer given the numbers we now have for most positions but holding out hope Beckford can give us double figures for the season which will be a superb return.
(sorry!)
I would want us to be doing the same in the reverse. Anichebe and Vaughan also out of contract in the summer, so I would hope we are talking to agents or looking to sell on both of them.
We should not dismiss City as "lots a money, but useless", as some complacently do. Then there is still Spurs and Liverpool. Getting 4th will be damned difficult, wnd we need to shore up those areas we are weak.
Right midfield is the most obvious, and Landon Donovan should be the player. Not only has he the abilities we need there, but he already played for us and settled in. Landon ticks two boxes: Safety first, intelligent; fast wing play. Bloody no-brainer, but I expect Villa to bid for him. Here's why:

He'll go with what he knows; nailed on to try for Donovan. FFS sort out the Pienaar situation, if he signs great; look to sell someone else to bring in Donovan and a back up LB to Baines.
If he won't sign, and Donovan is available, please, put him up for sale. One year Pienaar or 4 years - and probably more committed - Donovan?
Would we start putting excuses like Andy Gray for the top 4 teams, "There was deffinitely slight contact there" and "the speed he was going, he needed just a small nudge".
I won't change though; I despise divers and we have two big ones in Yakubu, who is crap at it and Pienaar, who is frustrating with it.
West Ham ... spouting the bollocks he does. I quote "...you look at Yakubu and you think £1m or £2m. but no more." This, after bidding £6m (we believe) and then returning with a bid of £5m.
Almost Monty Python-esque.
-------
Reminds me of Peter in Family Guy, haggling with a salesman: I'll give you £2,000, ok $1,000; make that £5,000 - salesman: eh? I said you could have it for £4,000 - ok, £6,000! Brian the dog explains: He can't haggle!
As for Arteta, his kind of realistic loyalty is of far more value and far more praiseworthy than the tattoo on the arm type....even Jamie Carragher has got one of them!
Thanks Mikkey...it's just what we needed!
Yakubu's contract doesn't expire until the summer of 2012 having signed a 5 year contract in 2007.
The Toffeeweb stats say its next summer?!
Aiyegbeni Yakubu June 2011; Back after his World Cup disappiontment >21
So he must have a plan on how to spend the fee.
Watch this space! (sorry).
