A nice little interview published by the Guardian tonight about Mikel. Says he'll officially sign his 5-year contract tomorrow (Friday). Bit it's a nice little glimpse into the secretive world of Everton Football Club.
Interesting Arteta says, "...personally, [I] have been complaining to the chairman about how we need to improve this and that".

A slightly different interview in the Mail which runs quotes from Arteta saying he offered the club the chance to sell him for good money as he is 28 and didn't cost much.
There is a lot of spin in football but that's nice to hear about our Manager and Chairman.

While acknowledging that most players are pure mercenaries, I have always refused to tar them all with the same brush. Despite criticism of Kenwright and Moyes at times, it is clear that their relationship with Arteta has won him over. The crowd too has played its part with its obvious adulation.
It brings me round to thinking that there really is something special about being an Evertonian. Why else would a succession of out-of-town players, who previously had no allegiance to the club, suddenly become committed to the cause and remain Blues after their playing career has finished - I'm thinking Alan Ball, Howard Kendall, Duncam McKenzie, Andy King, Ian Snodin, Graeme Stuart, Duncan Ferguson and now it would appear Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta.
It brings me round to thinking that there really is something special about being an Evertonian. Talk is cheap Mikel ? "it is my time now". Let's hope so and he delivers because there is no one with more ability than him ? he just needs to believe so and dictate big games away from home.
Quality interview - the fact he's not talking in cliches gives him a bit of credibility in my eyes there!

In a football world full of greedy, low-life bastards, it's good to have men with class in our ranks.
Keeping Mikel Arteta for another 5 years is just marvellous. The guy is just top drawer.
But...
We need to get the Pienaar business done. Appears to be a major disconnect between what his agent is saying and what the club is saying. It is more rational to tie up someone with less than 1 year left than someone with 2. But whatever's going on really should be sorted. Sounds like he really prefers to stay. He's brilliant for us. Get him signed up then we can al relax.
And last point; Can someone tell that bloated fuck of a porn king who runs West Ham to put something in his mouth before spouting the bollocks he does. I quote "...you look at Yakubu and you think £1m or £2m. but no more." This, after bidding £6m (we believe) and then returning with a bid of £5m.
Almost Monty Python-esque.
If we can raise around £10m from Yak and JV then I believe, and I think Moyes believes, that Loic Remy offers greater potential return on investment than Landon D. I still expect LD to rejoin us on loan.

I'd love us to go for broke on a proven goalscorer given the numbers we now have for most positions but holding out hope Beckford can give us double figures for the season which will be a superb return.

Yak's contract is up in the summer, same as Pienaar. I think Gold is right to try and get him on the cheap, cos he can always get him for free in the summer.
I would want us to be doing the same in the reverse. Anichebe and Vaughan also out of contract in the summer, so I would hope we are talking to agents or looking to sell on both of them.

As some have posted, we are not there (all positions covered) yet. Man City only have a lack of knowing each other, they have eveything else.
We should not dismiss City as "lots a money, but useless", as some complacently do. Then there is still Spurs and Liverpool. Getting 4th will be damned difficult, wnd we need to shore up those areas we are weak.

It would be funny to see people's reactions to Young if he came here, very very doubtful.
Would we start putting excuses like Andy Gray for the top 4 teams, "There was deffinitely slight contact there" and "the speed he was going, he needed just a small nudge".

It's a bit unfair to say Yakubu is crap at diving. He has to be careful how he goes down. He doesn't want to set off all the world's seismographs or initiate tsunamis all over the place.
As for Arteta, his kind of realistic loyalty is of far more value and far more praiseworthy than the tattoo on the arm type....even Jamie Carragher has got one of them!

Watching DM on SSN today, where he confirmed the 1st bid for the Yak was £6m and the 2nd one £5m, I would say that reading between the lines he is definitely prepared to sell if the price is right.
So he must have a plan on how to spend the fee.
