Yobo loaned to Celtic?

Just read that our very own Joseph Yobo has been in talks to be loaned to Celtic. Surely this is a bad move for the club.
Loaning out youngsters to gain them first team experience is one thing but loaning out a player of Yobo's age shows the fact that he's not wanted by the manager or the club and will only lower his valuation. We should just sell the lad to the first club who offers a decent wedge for him rather than farm him out to clubs who are skint! (like us).
Personally, think this is a bad move

I would rather it was Distin! We seemed to have swapped Yobo a superior younger model for an older one! Yes they both have faults but Yobo over Distin everytime.
Playing in Scotland isn't exactly a high level now is it. I think I'd agree with James, rather it was Distin too. But then again both don't really install much confidence in me.

It could be were selling him and in fact it's not a loan. Granted the title to this was "Yobo on his way out on loan". I do agree with you though, a loan would be pointless.

Yobo is not a left sided central defender.
It's a tricky one with Yobo. He's not the player he once was but he is useful to have on the bench.
It looks as though Jagielka and Distin are Everton's first choice centre backs but Jags in particular may suffer with injuries as the season goes on. So you would expect the defender just behind them to get quite a bit of football over the season.
You would think that defender would be Yobo but if he is being sent to Celtic then its fair to assume that Yobo has fallen down the pecking order further then we know.
Maybe Moyes has it in mind to use Heitinga as a back-up central defender. In fact its quite possible Johnny Heitinga may end up giving his defensive midfield role to Rodwell and moving to defence full time. Maybe even displacing Distin to partner Jags in defence. Then Moyes would have a Heitinga/Jagielka partnership at the back with Distin on the bench.
Then of course we have Shane Duffy. His name sounds like a boyband member but he looked pretty useful before his injury last season. Maybe Duffy is progressing enough for Moyes to feel save to allow Yobo to go?
And as a last resort we have Tony Hibbert. He's done a decent job in the past at Centre Back. He played there again in the recent friendly against Norwich.

To think that Moyes paid £5 million for Distin, and he's not exactly 22 either. I'm now just beginning to wonder how good a manager is Moyes exactly? Yes, some good buys.... but in his 9th season now and still we play like we did on Saturday.

Please do not bring up the distribution aspect, we hardly have many better, Johnny aside, and lastly the long diagonal from Right Cb to Left Wing-it always goes wrong-but how many of our defenders try the same ball? Is it his fault? Or is he coached to do it?

He is clumsy - Pinnacle point was the derby at Goodison last season he had a major hand in the two Liverpool goals.
He does pass well. Put him under a bit of pressure and he HOOOOOOFs the ball. After a particular good (or bad) on the hoofing front I named him the crown prince of Hoofball.
He isn't a leader. When he was stand-in captain he was not able to lead the team, and when we were shafted before the African nations, an injured Yobo to jump ship when we needed him.

The guy is not that good; we need to get somebody that is better. Love him but that's business.

Yobo is undoubtedly talented but like Distin he cannot concentrate for 90 minutes and goes missing in vertain games.
Added to that it is rumoured he had a big fallout with Moyes so we know what's going to happen anyway.

With Andreas Hinkel out for the rest of the season, The Hoops definitely need a centre half and, if Yobo has dropped down the pecking order, he fits the bill. Personally, I think Yobo's lapses of concentration have increased rather than decreased and he just isn't a first or second choice centre-half anymore.
To think Joey used to be regarded as potentially our best centre back since Ratcliffe. He had pace, physique and youth on his side. Seems a hell of a long time ago now and he appears to have regressed, rather than improved, during his time at the club.
He always seemed to need a more experienced and vocal defender, such as Stubbs, alongside him to cajole him and prevent him from switching off during games. Unfortunately, costly lapses of concentration have gone from being occasional to the norm for the Nigerian.
I personally gave him up for a lost cause after the game a couple of seasons ago (can't recall who it was against now) when he started fannying about trying to fasten his shoe lace in the middle of the box, totally oblivious to the fact that an opposition attack was occurring. He stood there, bent over, in his own little world, as the ball whistled right past him into the net. Unbelievable.

"Jobo" had a good first season when he arrived but for me he lost a bit of confidence in his next season with the blues and has never really recovered!
IMO he has at best 70 minutes of concentration and can end up being a liability in some games.
He has however pulled off some great performances and one-on-one marking of some decent players (Drogba / Chelski etc).
But for me he is shit now and needs to call it quits at this level ? the Scottish Prem is a huge drop in skill level so he should be OK if he does go!

I see your point, but would say that he did improve during his first few years with us. But he seems to be past his best now though.

All above points are valid but unless we receive a cash fee in the region of £3-5m I would say keep him.
What happens if two of our CBs get injured! Not that unlikely and we don't want to be messing around with makeshift defenses again. It's a squad game and we don't have the numbers to start selling!

John, it was against Charlton, I literally couldn't believe what I was seeing in that match and have never seen a defender do it before or since, Reid lined up his shot whilst 50p head fucked about with his laces, and scored gifting them a draw.
You only have to look at the TW mugshot of Yobo. He looks like he's in a daze on some dreamland sunny beach.
Suspect he won't be the last before end of window, I understand Coleman is on his way back to Blackpool having not exactly shone in his defensive work in pre-season, and certainly one or two of our `strikers` are already packing their bags for the lower regions,
We need to just not play Distin or Yobo ? they're both not very good. Anyway, I imagine if Yobo does go, it would probably be a loan with a view to a permanent move. To be honest, though, Yobo isn't going to get in the starting line-up so he will want to go, which is a shame because we need good back-ups for when the 1st team gets injured or need a rest.

Yobo is still a very good defender. He proved that by his performances in the World Cup. But he is currently our 4th choice CB, and I think if we loan him out for 12 months then that means we've seen the last of him. Either Celtic will take up the option to buy, or someone else will sign him next summer.
Personally I prefer Yobo to Distin, but, if he is indeed on his way north of the border, best of luck to him.
Joseph must be one of our longest serving foreign players, and longest serving of the current staff. Despite his lapses (and since his bro's been kidnapped, another bro assaulted on the street - I can forgive a few of those) overall has been a good player for us, never angling for a move or causing unrest, belting teammates with golfclubs or getting his agent to talk for him.
Looking back, he's pulled his weight and helped us rise up the table. Good on ya Jo'. Team player.

Andy Mack, re Yobo... Yes, longest serving foreign player definitely. But among the current staff, Tony Hibbert edges him by a season or two. However, Yobo has played more games.,.

I remember Joe's shoelace shocker quite well,and I'm pretty sure it was Fulham away. We lost 2-1 if memory serves,and it was one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen.

Joe has been one of my favourite players at Everton during his years here and he's been nothing but an asset to the club. For some seasons he was also our best defender, even with his mindlapses.
