Pienaar: The final word?

In today's Daily Mail, David Moyes says: 'Steven was made a brilliant offer and it has been on the table for three or four months,' ... 'I've said all along I will keep him and I've not budged.' The Mail goes on to say that Moyes is adamant no offers have been received and that Pienaar, 28, will see out the 12 months on his current deal, rather than be allowed to leave on the cheap. According to the paper, the deal offered was £55,000 a week. With the usual caveats about the veracity of the Mail's story, this is the first time that Moyes has declared that he is prepared to let Pienaar serve out his 12 months rather than cash in now. I know ToffeeWeb contributors have different views on this subject but it seems to me that some real intentions have come out of this story:
1. Moyes will keep Pienaar and make him see out his contract;
2. EFC believe Pienaar is worth considerably less than Arteta;
3. It doesn't appear to be length of contract that's the issue.
I personally would have thought that Pienaar would have been a lot closer in salary (to Arteta).
This whole story begs the question of course: if Moyes sticks to this view, we are definitely going to lose Pienaar for nothing next year. Nose, face, cut?

At that point he said he wanted to concentrate on the World Cup (the offer had been made a month or so before the World Cup). (fact)
I said then and I'll say it again now. The club has made Pienaar an offer they (including David Moyes) thinks is fair. There's not going to be a better offer made so it's up to (like it has been from day one) Pienaar to decide whether to sign or not. (fact)
He held out hoping someone would come in for him during/post World Cup..they haven't. (IMO)
He'll now hold out until January when he can talk to other clubs. Should nobody come in for him then.........he'll sign. (IMO).
The club have received no offers for Pienaar (fact).
Personally I'd rather the club attempt to give players like Gueye or someone from the reserves/lower league a chance rather than spend more than we can afford to, to keep Pienaar.
The only downside to Moyes plan is that I do worry that Pienaar may not give 100% and he may be distracted, especially as his contract winds down.
No matter what, players must be educated that they are never bigger than the club who pays their (note not "there") wages.
If Pienaar thinks he's bigger than the club then let him go now.
Nobody is indespensible.
That said, Steven, you are in a great football club and a great family situation. You will no doubt end up a multi-millionaire with this club and have massive friends in numbers that you will be able to count on at least one hand. This is true for everyone and not just you as a footballer.
You want Spain you want Italy, then fine go fo it., You go but we will still be here, shouting chanting sweating blood for our team.
The choice is yours pal.
Sorry to be patronising but at 4 million a year thats A million a year more then Pienaar has been offered.
The whole structure of player's pay and agents fees needs to be looked at by FIFA before a number of clubs go to the wall.
holding onto a player who refuses to sign a reported 60K a week is a massive gamble for a club of our limited wealth. It's not one a serious money-watching business should take.

Here's the way it should work. If a player thinks he's bigger than the club with a year left on his contract ... let him play for that last year in the reserves.

Unforutnately such grand gestures are costly. The £6-10 million we could get for him plus the what £3-4 million we would still pay him in wages. As the original poster says: cut, nose, face. Millions of reasons not to do that.
We should sell him. I see no likliehood in him signing. And before someone comes in with "there's no offers", you may think we'd get no offers for him, I don't. And we should use the money to get Donovan. He would need no bedding in time; And he wants to be here. And as he can play as striker, that would sometime be useful, too., if today is anmything to go by.
For someone who claims they are deeply religious, I am surprised at Pienaar. His greed is terrible. Although he will never have to work again, unlike most of us, I really think he values greed above his friends, and the people who pay a lot of money to follow the club.
If you look at it from a pure financial viewpoint - lets say an extra 10k a week would be accepted by the player over a 5 year deal. Thats an extra 2.5m over the 5 years. If we allow him to go on a free how much would a replacement cost ? In todays market significantly more !!
Whilst it goes against my better judgement, from a business prespective offering him more money is a no brainer .......

Pienaar went from being a youth with great player to being almost on the scrap heap at Dortmund before he was given a chance by Everton football club and he should remember that.
