Now all the nonsense is behind us and we haven't been able to snare DJ Campbell or Grafite, can someone give us some info on Gueye and the Portugese lad, da Silva? Is there any possibility either of these two can do something for us this season?
We now have to work (well, Davey or his replacement does) with what we have got. What about the defender we got from Hamburg (Mustafi)?
Should Yobo come back into the picture if Jags is crocked for a while? Can Coleman cement a place in the team ahead of Pip? Questions,Questions, so many questions. Oh, I'm so tired after todays speculation, just... so, you know... tired.

Worst summer ever in terms of transfer activity, and an absolute disgrace in my book. How can we be expected to compete at the top end of the Premier League without at least doing a couple of loan deals? Stoke, Birmingham, and Sunderland are now outspending us by massive margins.
I can't see DM putting up with it for much longer.
We are now going to have to make do with filling positions with 2nd choice players for those places. E.g, Coleman or Arteta on the right. It might work, but it's far from ideal.
The board have a lot of explaining to do. But they will probably waffle their way out of it again.

I think we are well covered at center back. With no Europa League games, Jagielka, Distin, Heitinga with Duffy as a young back up is enough competition.
I am disappointed that we weren't able to wheeler deal a pacey winger or striker, even on loan. Until seeing him at the Villa game then I wouldn't have thought so but maybe giving Coleman a chance on the right of midfield is worth a shot.
I think Champions League is now out of reach but a domestic cup and a top seven finish is not out of the question.

I'm as big a pro-Moyes supporter as there is. But I think he is as much to blame as Kenwright. Why doesn't he grow a set of balls and tell Bill the way it is?

Answering the initial question Gueye appears to have the pace and crossing ability that we crave whilst reading a Portugese football site yesterday they are looking to Silva as a brigh hope as a 6 foot plus striker learning a trade but with real skill. Regards the window its shite - on the live forum you got the impression most would have taken DJ Campbell in exchange for Yak just so we made a signing - fuck that would still rather have this squad! However i will miss Joeys one major mistake each game.
The problem is though Robert is that Bill will disappear now until we go on a good run and then spout some shite or sing along to Z Cars as if everything is hunky dorey again.
I think the idea is that the current squad lay the foundations & then when the next transfer window opens we can splash the cash & bring in a couple of players to give us a boost through to the end of the season to help us clinch the Title!

Thank fuck it's over, now lets concentrate on the season, i dont know wether it's our awful start or what but i'm a bit disinterested at the momment, what i'm waiting for is a great performance from the team , hopefully starting against Manure.
Going to be an interesting season. Take the point about us being outspent by 10 plus clubs, but we are probably already at our financial limits and clearly trying to balance the books given players outrageous wage demands. Not sure how long the football finances can go on without it going pop.
On the team side, we have a decent squad, good team spirit and the chance for top 7 if the players play to their potential. It's no use beating Man utd and Chelsea if you lose to teams like Blackburn, Sunderland and the like. We need the guys we have got to deliver.
We will do okay this season I am sure, but unless the financial situation at the club changes and we can start to buy some quality additional players in line with the competition we will start to lose players like Rodwell, Jags et al, followed by Moyes. With no money we will be looking at managers well down the pecking order. I know money has always played a part but the like of City and Chelsea are screwing our football league good and proper.
In answer to the OP's question, Andy Brassell, a well-respected journalist covering European football, especially the French game, claims that Gueye is a v. good player. Scored goals in a struggling team last year and rejected Lyon to join us, because of the rep Everton are getting across Europe for giving young lads a chance.
Harry the Spiv doing deals like 8 Million for Van der Vart, that is a fucking steal, but our chairman is a useless lying arsehole who wouldnt know his arse from his elbow.

As Greg (#12) and Jon (#4) have put it, the last position we need to worry about is central defence. Jags, Johnny H, Distin, with young Duffy coming through the ranks, plus Pip and Hibbo have shown they can do the job as well - no probs.
Yobo goes with our blessings, but as another poster puts it our issues are futher up the field. Just because we ain't spent more than Blackpool is not a reason to hit the panic button. I've got a sneaking feeling Moyes and Kenright have something up their sleeves for January i.e. Donovan. He'll be coming back anway I think, even if just on loan as last year. In the meantime, he'll be bringing through the fringe players from last year i.e. Rodwell, Coleman and Gueye will be getting a look-in too I think.
As for recent results, we've been playing them all off the park, especially at Villa. It'll just take a spark for us to kick into gear. A result against Man U ain't out of the question again.
Anyway, we'll be fine. And as for the next transfer window in January, my slightly drunk prediction is...

Thor we can sign frees like Lucas Neill last year, but loan signings are only allowed in exceptional circumstances as was the case when Westerfeld was brought in on loan a few years back, although to be honest I reckon there's been enough "space watching" and "countdowning" for the time being, to understate the matter somewhat

It's interesting, the debate on who DM should be playing. Cool, too. He finally has roster depth TWers can argue about. It's, as they say, a good problem (finally). But still a problem to be sorted.
Whoever he sent out these first 3 games, EFC has had the better of play. Keep that up and the balls will start crossing the goal line. Imagine how frustrated the players are?

Surely knowing that Yobo was going to be off the wage bill, we could have tried for Hleb?!? A proven Premier League player, can play wide or behind the lone striker, and great on the ball - somewhat like Pienaar. Yet he joins Birmingham........shitty Birmingham. Do Moyes and Kenright not realise these players are available - do we not have European scouts with knowledge of the markets? i doubt it, if its anything like the PR department or the admin people who cocked up the Gosling contract. To be an Evertonian in this era is to be a masochist i think.

While I don't subscribe to the personal vilification of Bill Kenwright that some do, I am sick and tired of the empty promises of 24/7, 7 or 8 times a year, 4 times in the last few months, etc. And I feel that the present economic climate is being used as a smokescreen to cover these shortcomings. "Extraordinary!" as he said recently. Today was underwhelming in the extreme.
So really what I am saying is, you don't have to lump one with the other. It's good to separate these things out and see each for it's merits and demerits.

The depth in the squad is good and the sensible business move would have been to cash in on a few fringe players and keep trying to build the first 11 while the bailiffs are off our doorstep... but I still think Moyes/BK see this season as the one where we have the best chance of breaking into the top 4 and are putting all of our eggs in that basket.
If we don't get there I'll bet that we sell a lot of the squad off in the summer and start again.

While I agree with Moyes, that the squad is fairly strong, the worry I have is the injury problem that blighted us last season raising its ugly head again.
With Yobo about to leave, and Jagielka gone to an England get together injured, things can change during a couple of games, and with two very competitive matches due against the two Uniteds within a week, I just feel that we are a little light in certain positions, no cover for Baines does not help. When certain players in the squad take knocks, they seem to be out for a eternity.
I really feel Moyes needs to get the right side of midfield sorted, three different players in three games does not help.
As I mentioned earlier the two games coming up will be very fast and physical, I am confident in our ability, I just hope lady luck is on our side injury-wise.

I think most of us were prepared to accept losing a Yobo or Yakubu if, and only if, it meant a right winger or potent striker coming in. That hasn't happened and it looks like another piece of sleight of hand by the Everton Board of Directors. We now have three centre backs, one of whom is a quasi centre midfielder. That leaves us dangerously thin on the ground, a situation which would have been tolerable if other players had been added elsewhere in the squad.
It hasn't happened and you begin to wonder just how Bill Kenwright can possibly justify this utterly inadequate summer of transfer business at our club. If you can defend him now then you're a better fan than me.
