Everton tried, unsuccessfully, to sign Lille defender Adama Soumaoro during the transfer window according to reports in France.
L'Equipe and La Voix du Nord both claim that the Blues lodged an offer in excess of €20m for the centre-half but either the French club rejected the bid, the player turned down the chance to move to Goodison Park, or both.
Everton turned instead to Eliaquim Mangala, signing the 26-year-old on loan from Manchester City on deadline day.
