Moshiri weighing up alternatives to Allardyce
Allardyce was hired on an 18-month contract but whether it was always part of the plan or because recent disappointing performances and results have forced a rethink, Paul Brown writes that the 63-year-old won't be at the helm at the start of the 2018-19 campaign.
A similar piece by Merseyside-focused Chris Bascombe also raises the prospect that Moshiri is facing a looming decision on whether to retain Allardyce but it isn't as declarative as the piece in the Star.
According to Brown, Moshiri is drawing up a shortlist consisting of some familiar names hoping that he will have more success landing a top managerial target during the close season.
The report suggests that the likes of Diego Simeone and Luis Enrique could be approached on the more ambitious end of the shortlist while there is support at the club for courting Paulo Fonseca, the Shakhtar Donetsk boss to whom they first made overtures back in November.
The Portuguese has been stalling on a new deal with the Ukrainian and, depending on how far Shakhtar progress in the Champions League, his responsibilities there could conclude with the end of the season in Ukraine later next month.
His compatriot, Marco Silva, is also available but the report speculates that Moshiri's interest in him could have cooled based on the way his time at Watford came to an end last month.
