It bears all the hallmarks of your typical Sunday tabloid sensation piece but The Mirror are claiming that Mikel Arteta is on Everton's shortlist to replace Sam Allardyce as manager.
The Spaniard made his name in England with the Blues and finished his Premier League career with the Gunners after moving to the Emirates in a £10m deal and, having taken his coaching badges and an apprenticeship under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, he is now being touted as a target of both clubs.
Both Allardyce and Arsene Wenger are under significant threat of losing their jobs and John Richardson and Tom Hopkinson report that Bill Kenwright will try to convince Farhad Moshiri that Arteta is the right candidate to take Everton forward.
