Everton linked with move for Wilshere

As Jack Wilshere's contract impasse at Arsenal drags on, Everton have been named in the press as potential suitors.

The England midfielder is reportedly after a £90,000-a-week deal from the Gunners before he extends his contract which expires in June but has been unsuccessful in negotiations thus far which has prompted media speculation that the Blues could offer him more than he wants at the Emirates Stadium.

It smacks of bargaining tactics by his agent so it remains to be seen whether there is genuine interest from Goodison in a player whose injury record should at least give pause for thought, even on a free transfer.

Updated: The Times claim that Everton are prepared to pay Jack Wilshere a staggering £8 million signing-on fee to move to Goodison Park this summer. The Arsenal midfield player has yet to agree a new contract at the Emirates Stadium, and Everton are making an aggressive play for his signature.

Wilshere's preference is to stay at Arsenal despite the prospect of earning far more money elsewhere, but the two parties are not close to an agreement. Arsenal's opening contract offer to Wilshere involved him accepting a cut in his basic wages to £80,000 a week, although he would have the chance to increase it significantly through bonus and appearance payments.
