Reports of Everton's interest in bringing Marcel Brands in as the club's new director of football continue, with the Liverpool Echo saying that the club "are thought to be edging nearer" to landing him from PSV Eindhoven.
Amid criticism of the Blues' transfer dealings last summer, suggestions that the hierarchy had opened a dialogue with Brands first surfaced in January.
The Dutchman has a growing reputation in the game for spotting talent and "transforming a club", as the Mail put it recently, and could be viewed as a replacement for Steve Walsh who could be moved aside or have his role at Everton changed if the club are successful in tempting Brands to Finch Farm.
Though unremarkable as a player, Brands has built an attractive CV in the Dutch game, first at AZ Alkmaar and then PSV.
