Everton eye Tosun's ex-teammate as alternative to Wilshere

| Thursday, 22 March 2018 12comments  |  Jump to last
According to the Turkish-Football.com website, Everton have been scounting Oguzhan Ozyakup who would be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The report comes in the wake of claims made in The Times of London that Wilshere, who was forced to pull out of the England squad today because of tendinopathy in his knee, has been strongly linked with a move to Goodison Park this summer should he fail to agree new terms with Arsenal.

Like Ozyakup, the Gunners' midfielder is out of contract at the end of the current campaign but the Turkish source claims that Everton will look to the Besiktas man to link back up with Cenk Tosun if Wilshere eludes them.

Fun fact... Ozyakup is an ex-Arsenal man himself (2011-2012).

Described as an intelligent player, in the mould of Zidane.

Go for it, I say. Definitely a better bet than Wilshere, whose wage demands would be ridiculous.

Well there's a handful of letters to pronounce.

Apparently a #10 out of the Arsenal academy.

For what it's worth, his YouTube reel:

And an all-caps NO on Wilshere. How many ankle surgeries? Leg fractures? It's too bad for the lad because he's a genuine talent. But, just turned 26, he's already a never-will because his legs aren't having it.

No doubt a club will pick him up. Just please not Everton.

Can't pretend to know anything about the lad but from his showreel (yes, I know) there's lots to admire.

His range of passing is quite something and to have a player with that kind of vision would be a game-changer for our pedestrian midfield. He seems to either pass or drive forward at every opportunity.

This fella for me, a big Yes Please.

Half of the overhyped future midfield of England, out of contract, pissed off with the club he's been with since he was a lad and susceptible to injury, goes south from the north(west) to get a few games in the League Cup next season. The other half heads north(west), out of contract, pissed off with the club he's been with since he was a lad and susceptible to injury.

The only difference is the one heading north(west) will get knocked out of the League Cup in his first appearance in the competition.

He should be a no-brainer and definitely would show ambition. He is a 'proper' player with dribbling skills plus vision and would delight the EFC fans who really appreciate ball players. What a lift to the attack if we can get him.

Seems that after the closing of the last transfer window Arsenal were known to be scouting Ozyakup as a replacement for the physios favourite Jack Wilshere. Rumours and reports emerging during early/mid February which rumbled on until earlier this month.

Stats on Ozyakup, that I've found so far, are inconclusive/unimpressive.

Whilst I'm not in favour of us signing "Wheelchair Jack", I can not help but recall that many Evertonians were aghast (I was delighted) when in 1982 we signed a 26-year-old midfielder (a boyhood red) with a scary looking injury record of his own: Peter Reid.

I see Jack has pulled out the England game tonight; you'll never guess why... he's injured. Sign him up – the physio is lonely.

Cenk Tosun is a player of immense quality and at the moment we are not making the most of him. Anything that could bring out his best, like signing this decent playmaker, would get a nod from me.

I see Wilshere is suffering from 'tendinopathy in his knee'. I researched this as I have an iffy knee at the moment and I see that 'Tendon injuries heal more slowly in smokers than in nonsmokers'. Jack is known to be fond of a cigarette. So, it's a no to Jack for me. Anyone know if the Turkish lad is a smoker?

If he signs give him the No 7 shirt. OO7.
