Marco Silva remains the favourite for the Everton job but the club's new director of football is also involved in the decision and is reported to be running the rule over other candidates.

That's the contention of the Liverpool Echo who say that Marcel Brands is heavily involved in the process of identifying the successor to Sam Allardyce even though he doesn't officially begin his new role with the Blues for another 10 days.

Phil Kirkbride's report suggests that Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has been floated as a possibility among the Goodison hierarchy.

Reports in the Portuguese press yesterday had it that Silva could be unveiled as Everton's new head coach this week as advanced talks continue with the ex-Hull and Watford boss.

Sky Sports' sources claim, meanwhile, that the 40-year-old could be announced early next week.
