Story alleging serious dressing room rift quashed

Another story of highly dubious veracity in the gutter rag that is boycotted by Merseyside has been quashed by club insiders.

Following a misleading report earlier this week that Leighton Baines was seeking a move to LA Galaxy this summer — the defender was simply on holiday in Los Angeles this month — the red top have tried to foment further discord with allegations of a "serious" dressing room rift at Everton centred around the unlikely figure of Oumar Niasse.

A supposed quote from a source at the club claims that the squad was a "war zone" and that some Everton players would be "putting in transfer requests" unless Niasse was sold this summer.

Tom Davies was quoted as saying he was sick of the situation with Niasse... even though there is video shared on social media by Idrissa Gueye from only last month showing the young midfielder at the Senegal striker's birthday party.

The BBC's Greg O'Keeffe checked with his sources at the club and Everton have denied the story, describing the suggestions as "all false". Versions of the story misguidedly carried by MailSport and TalkSport appear to have been withdrawn and are no longer online.
