Funes Mori in talks over Mexico switch

Ramiro Funes Mori is in talks over a move back to Latin America with Monterrey according to reports in Mexico.

In addition to this Univision report, AS Mexico say that negotiations are underway over a transfer worth around $14m (~£10m).

Sport Witness, meanwhile, quote local newspaper, La Aficion, who claim that favourable talks have already been initiated with Everton over a $10m (their currency conversion is off) switch which would reunite him with his brother Rogelio.

“They already had the first contact," a source apparently said. "Everything indicates that it will be positive. Ramiro wants to play, to have continuity and he was not happy that in the end he didn't have the minutes he feels he needed to go to the World Cup.

"Rogelio has talked about Rayados, he knows Mexico, Monterrey and he sees it with good eyes.”

Any deal for Funes Mori would hinge on Monterrey's confidence that the defender has fully recovered from the knee injury that sidelined him for almost a year following two surgeries to repair damage to the meniscus.

After making a couple of substitute appearances, he was handed his only start of the 2017-18 season in the 3-1 defeat at West Ham on the final day. It was not enough to earn him a place in Argentina's squad for Russia 2018 this summer.
