Laudrup not interested in Everton switch

, 9 May, 68comments  |  Jump to most recent
Both Swansea City and the agent of Michael Laudrup have moved to distance the Dane from speculation linking him with Everton.

Though Roberto Martinez remains the favourite to replace David Moyes among oddsmakers, Laudrup has emerged as a popular choice among Evertonians who have been impressed with his work at Swansea City.

Laudrup's agent Bayram Tutumlu, however, says that his client will not be going anywhere this summer as he prepares for a Europa League campaign with the South Wales club.

“Michael is very happy at Swansea," Tutumlu is quoted as saying. "We do not think about any other possibilities. He will not be changing clubs. He likes his life in Swansea and is very settled.

“People always talk about Michael becoming a coach of other clubs because he has done very well. But he is the manager of Swansea and that will not change. The Swansea fans do not need to worry. He will be the manager there next season.”

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins, who lost Brendan Rogers last year to Liverpool was similarly adamant.

“Michael has made it clear he is not looking to move on. He is doing a job he loves doing and he is happy here. He is different from some managers. He is not on the ladder to try to get the top.”

Were Everton to try to price the 48 year-old away from the Liberty Stadium, though, it could cost the Club as much as £10m in compensation fees. Swansea and Laudrup agreed to insert an escape clause in the new contract he signed in March.

Well that's the deal signed and sealed. Laudrup it is then. Excellent.

"He is not on the ladder to try to get the top.” Huh? Isn't that the point of a ladder?

Anyway, the compensation was always going to be an obstacle for us.

Pay the 10m... Look what he's done with the team at Swansea.. I thought they were a 1 man team but as soon as he came in Sinclair was sold and still they look great with a half championship squad.. I say pay it, there's not many managers that come across better than Davey in interviews but Brian does, would really like to see him there... Martinez I just can't understand, I'm guessing its because he gets along with Bill but one dramatist is all we need I reckon.. The other tip is Malky Mackay and I have to say if you can't get Cardiff up after they've spent 15 years throwing money at it trying to get up then really you should just stay in the championship.. Even if you do get them up it doesn't make you good enough for us.. But please please please not Martinez, he is NOT optimum.

He's happy at Swansea FFS until Real Madrid need to replace The Special Mouron
We don't have that kind of compo anyhow so forget it
Round + Neville it is then
Can't wait
Interesting that this is revealed 2 games from the end of the season but NOT before the deadline for Earlybird Renewals

I hope we look a bit further afield than under our noses. Thomas Tuchel should be our next manager:

I have a horrible feeling it will be Mark Hughes. But then again, 4m p/a is very attractive to any manager like laudrup or Martinez who are probably on a lot less than half of that.

We will never be able to pay what Swansea want in compensation and that is our fundamental problem with losing Moyes. We don't have the money to recruit the best available.

Not usually very active on these threads, although I read them everyday, I feel that on a day like this I have to say something

Being a Dane of course I would be glad to see Michael Laudrup at Goodison. (Again turning the eyes of the danish media towards EFC since they disappeared when Mad Dog left for Real), but Im not entirely sure he would be the perfect fit for us.

Laudrup is the kind of manager that stays for one-two seasons and in nearly every managerial role he´s had, it has ended with him resigning/getting sacked due to disputes/controversies with the directors/owners of the club due to lack of financial backing (cough cough), length of his own contract etc etc (Brondby, Getafe, Mallorca).

My guess is that Laudrup would be long gone come January and there yet again is no money. (of course he would be entitled to - but will it really help EFC)

From my perspective there is two issues at stake.
1. The current Everton team is calling for an overhaul in the next year (here I am assuming that Baines and Fellaini leaves) so I would want a manager that sticks around for a little longer
2. I really don't think anyone will buy us iin the foreseeable future so I think we need a manager that somehow accept the shoestring.

And I don't think that Laudrup fits into this...(I hope to god that neither does Hughes, Megson, O´Neill etc).

And sad to see Moyes leaving he did better than Walker and Smith and he actually didnt (as Royle) leave when the directors said no or "sorry but no" thereby leaving us with HK III which was a downright disgrace of a team.

Heres hoping for good times ahed (and thanks for the memories Moyes) - Now go and don't win anything at United

The pieces are coming together... SAF retires just before Moyes's contract ends, at the same time Benitez leaves Chelsea. A happy coincidence or what?

For years, we have been treated like mushrooms by our own board. At the end of our last game at the 'Bridge', look out for a double announcement of the Special One's return to Chelsea and TFW's return to Merseyside.

Bungalow Bill will stage-manage the show.

Peter Thistle
20 Posted 10/05/2013 at 06:29:38
That's part of the problem we have. We aren't rich with a big budget so it would be hard to attract a decent quality manager, also the new manager would have to tolerate Kenwright and his bullshit. I'd be more interested in a foreign manager, the current crop of available UK based ones are second rate.

Vítor Pereira at Porto would fit the bill on a few different levels.

1: He's out of contract in the summer so we wouldn't have to pay compensation that we can't afford.
2. He's done well at Porto and proved he knows what he's doing.
3. At 44 he's still hungry for the game and looking to try a new challenge in the premier league. Kenwright likes a promising "young manager" in the Moyes vein.
4. He'd bring a style of football that the fans would love and possibly a few technically gifted portugese players with him.

Think he'd be a much better option than Martinez, manager of Porto ( respected European club ) vs manager of Wigan. No contest.

Hi

I think it might be a bit rich to appoint Robert Martinez especially if Wigan are finally relegated this season. I would like to see Gus Poyet be given a chance. He has the correct philosophy and has played in the Premier League at the highest level. Maybe Brighton have a few more quid than Everton but probably not too much in it so he should not find the financial side too difficult to adjust to.

Can't see past it being Martinez after reading Frederik's @980 sobering post.

I'd love to convince myself BK would plump for a Laudrup but it's simply not the BK way. Martinez is the obvious choice: I can already imagine them as bezzy mates at press conferences, a relationship which continues to cover over the cracks of the club.

Part of me wishes it would be someone more renegade, perhaps a Laudrup, who might just blow the whistle on the fact the club is being slowly strangled from within.

Vítor Pereira does not have very much experience in terms of years in charge and no experience of the premier League. Also, if he has one the title with Porto (with Sporting down on their luck that league is a two horse race!) why aren't the Porto board renewing his contract?

The compensation issue may well rule out Laudrup. I agree that Thomas Tuchel is a good shout. Poyet, Zola and Di Matteo are all possibilities, but I think Martinez is the man who fits the bill. My only concern is the negative reaction of some fans towards him. Yes he has had a poor season in the league this year, but anyone would struggle to keep Wigan in the PL for as long as he has. He is loyal and his teams play good football. He is used to building a decent team on a very limited budget. I hope whoever is picked will get the full backing of all supporters. We need to be positive!

1. Red hair
2. Communicates in a strange-sounding tongue which on close inspection turns out to be English
3. One shoe keeps falling off (“Bill gave me this shoestring and told me I could work on it”)

Any other suggestions please – the fans are being asked to help on this one.

Hello Kenny Jackett.....we all know deep down that with Kenshite making the decisions we will eventually end up with some no mark after "...searching 24/7" for the right manager...

Is there actually ANYBODY out there who trusts Kenshite to get this decision right...especially after the blubbering nonsense he spouted on SSN yesterday...." I don't want to let the fans down..."

Bit late now you fuckin waste of space you've been letting us down since you took over as Chairman....this will be yet another fuck up in a very long list of fuck up's...the best thing you can do for Everton FC is leave and take your Board of Cronies with you

I would love to know why some fans say Martinez is the man for the job, this man has built a reputation by keeping Wigan in the Prem and this year he will even fail to do that. So if our expectation as fans is to appoint a manager that will get relegated then maybe if we do appoint him we shouldn't be surprised if we end up in a relegation battle.

What will his wages be ? Say £3m. Over 5 years that's £5m savings from Moyes. So we'd only be paying £5m. If he can take us to the next level (Champs League), which I think he can, then he's easily paid off that £10m.

Why is the £10m clause in there anyway. So he can move to a big club if they come in for him.

We should defo move in for him. We've got to think big.

James Stewart
43 Posted 10/05/2013 at 11:49:11
Rijkaard, Bilic, Pellegrini, Ottmar Hitzfeld , Marcelo Bielsa

James Stewart
44 Posted 10/05/2013 at 12:04:37
The likes of Martinez, Di Matteo, are not good enough.

Laudrup is not worth 10m when you could get better for a lot less.

Alan Smith
45 Posted 10/05/2013 at 11:58:01
No way is the compensation payment £10m. As if Laudrup and his advisors would have a signed a deal so restrictive. And Swansea for that matter. Would they have to pay Laudrup £10m to sack him? Don't see it being more than two years wages.

I trust the our board to take there time and get this right, and if they want Laudrup, they'd be willing to pay it, surely. It's the most important decision they ve had to make in 11 years.

Personally I'm very excited, look how good the last manager was. I see this as an opportunity to improve and kick-on. A new manager, like Laudrup, might give the team a lift, add a bit of flair to our organisation and graft. Moyes has left a stable club for a more attack minded coach to build on. Good times ahead!

Alan Humphreys
46 Posted 10/05/2013 at 12:22:06
Why not ask Moyes who he suggests to be his successor... Neville? Osman ? Hibbert?

Don't trust Kenwright at all and see his line yesterday about no quick appointment is see that as 'get someone in late and then saying they had money to spend but not enough time to spend it'.

He says he'll listen to the fans, well there's a track record that he doesn't and you can add the bloody new club badge to the pile. I'm happy for Moyes to go but can't he take Blue Bill as his boot boy ?!?

Well, BK is seemingly going to wait until 2:55pm on August 14 next season, 5 minutes before our first game. He of course will be waiting for a staggering, drunk Howard Kendall, getting another drink to get in to the ground before introducing him as the new manager.
Ross Edwards
55 Posted 10/05/2013 at 13:12:38
Maybe my celebrations were a bit premature. BK will cock things up and we will have Megson in charge, just like he planned 11 years ago.
Then he says we are going to continue in the "David Moyes tradition".
No doubt Bk will commission a statue of him and Moyes arm in arm and put it next to Dixie's statue. Maybe that's how the "David Moyes tradition" will continue.
Why do we even bother?

I think the board is going to want to appoint somebody that they can promote as being a vibrant young manager who is full of fresh ideas. So that would mean no O'Neill, Hughes or McClaren. But, they may well bracket Lennon, Mackay or Neville under that banner.

I still think the wise mans money should be on Martinez or Laudrup (because of how I think the board will go, not necessarily personal opinion), but over the last couple of days I have started like the idea of Perreira, especially if his contract is up.

Solskjaer............ maybe worth a try
Benitez......... why the fuck does his name appear in the list
Hiddink......... of course yes, but he would not do it<
Pereira……… yes
Laudrup…….. yes but I don’t think he would take it, and 10m is highly questionable when we have an aging squad to tend to.

If Kenwright had any know-how and gumption he'd have been sounding out a replacement as soon as Moyes started threatening to leave if he, as manager, failed to get the club into Europe (bit odd that isn't it?). And his starting point if he didn't fancy paying out compensation should have been Laudrup, who at the start of the year was still managing Swansea, with great success, without a contract.

As it is, Kenwright appears to have been the only man on the planet who didn't forersee Moyes leaving. Like many others on here I fear what we're going to end up with as a new manager with him in charge. Let's just hope that his 24/7 search for a new manager bears more fruit than his 24/7 search for new investment. But I doubt it. He doesn't appear to be networked into what's going on amongst the power brokers in English football and I suspect he has little knowledge of any foreign managers that might be available and fit the bill. Add to that his mysterious financial ties to Green and the resultant limitations on the carrots he can offer a prospective new manager then thigns don't look too promising.

I think most people are missing the influence Moyes will have on picking our next manager just as SAF picked Moyes as Walter Smith did before him.

And for that reason I think Moyes will recommend Mckay who will get the job. There is no way Moyes would pick a foreign manager.

Moyes has stated in today's press conference that Kenwright has already asked for his advice on who he should approach....so much for listening to the fans then Kenwright...you lying twat !!

Looks like it will be Malackey Mackey then folks...why ???....cos he's a carbon copy of Dour Davie (just like Moyes is similar to Ferguson apparently....sorry must have missed all those trophies he's won in the last 11yrs !!!!)...Mackey is a miserable git devoid of personality who started his career at Celtic where he played a few games...(remind you of anyone ??) He then spent the rest of his playing career in the lower divisions in England...(again anyone spring to mind ???) He started off at Watford who were in the shite and won them some games (a la Moyes at Preston) and got them up the table....got the job at Cardiff and won the Championship aka Division 2 ( which to be fair is something Moyes has NEVER done !!)

BTW has anyone noticed the similarity between their style of play...Cardiff are a physical side who hoof it up front as soon as poss to their front man...who runs around like a headless chicken....no passing football style played here I'm afraid...just like Dour Davie in the Everton years !!

So it's my guess that the next Everton manager will be Malakey Makey as recommended by David Moyes....
