It’s an admittedly well trodden path for many of us on TW but I’ve always been fascinated by the uniqueness of our goalies (and goalies in general) when it comes to scrutiny and accountability.
I’m therefore inviting any memories of our ‘keepers who delivered man-of-the-match performances regardless of their standing now being well less regarded than the legends that were Westy, Nev, Nigel, Tim and, dare I say it, Jordan.
The first one I saw live was Albert Dunlop, then Andy Rankin, Geoff Barnett, Dai Davies, David Lawson, “Wee” Georgie Wood, Martin Hodge, Jim McDonagh, Jim Arnold, Bobby Simms, Paul Gerrard, Thomas Myrhe, Steve Simonson, Richard Wright and, eventually, Joel Robles.
Personally I was always impressed by George Wood but for the life of me I can’t now recall any actual matches where he excelled, but excel he did.
Anyway, do any of us have a healthier, and dare I say it more generous, memory than me?
