A Day in the Life...
24 July 2004

This is drama like never seen before at Everton Football Club; I feel like we should be changing the team name to Harchester....

I wake up each morning and wonder what headline is going to jump off the computer screen to slap me in the face.  Maybe we should now have our own Sky Sports channel to keep up with the scandalous stories breaking out of Goodison Park this summer.  The club is in meltdown, that is for sure.

The club WILL burn to ashes, but I firmly believe that we will rise like a phoenix from those ashes and become a force in English football again.  Wayne Rooney will sign a contract with Everton because, deep down, I think he can see what I see.

The club is about to go through a major period of change.  Bill Kenwright is a fantastic man, but he has no business sense.  Bill really does want the best for this Club and, if he had millions and millions of pounds to burn, then we would have the best Chairman in the League (until he burnt it all).  The fact is, he doesn't... and the precious money we do have is leaking away everywhere. Gregg is a good businessman and he can attract money to the club.  He might not have blue blood, but I believe he can do a job at Everton.

I am absolutely shocked at reports about the Portugal manager being offered the Everton manager's job.  If these reports are true, then I wouldn't blame Moyes for resigning from his post as opposed to working with the back-stabbers on the Everton Board. Was this going to be a little publicity stunt to take the spotlight off the Board??  I would be very interested to know which Director contacted Scolari.

I believe that Moyes is right for Everton.  Give that man money and he will become the next Alex Ferguson.  I take my hat off to David for the way in which he has coped under intense pressure and stayed loyal to Everton through testing times.

Bill Kenwright knows his days are numbered, so watch him pull off a string of expensive signings before he goes in a last-ditch attempt to save himself.  Even if it doesn't work, its not his problem anymore that he's added more money to the Everton debt.

So what will come out of the ashes... here is my bet.

  • A new Board of Directors bringing new investment into the Club.
  • We will no longer be Everton in £30M of debt; we will simply be known as Everton
  • Wayne Rooney will sign a new five-year contract.
  • We will have a new Chief Executive — and don't be surprised to see Trevor Birch back.
  • We will have a modest and increasing transfer kitty each year as our stock grows.
  • After the club stabilizes, the stadium issue will be back on the agenda.
  • Everton will become a profit-making organization, because if Paul Gregg doesn't love football then there is only one reason he will invest in Everton: to make Money.

I remain optimistic for this coming season.  Prepare to be shocked because I think we will hold ourselves mid-table.  These things will only happen if Bill Kenwright goes and Paul Gregg is being honest with his proposals.  Bill Kenwright will still be the saviour of our club, because he introduced Paul Gregg.

Many of you might think this article is too flowered up and a dream, but watch this space... and DON'T prove me wrong.
