David Moyes: remains the rock to which the fans can cling

During the shenanigans of the past few months, when questioning my sanity for following the misadventures of Everton FC, I have come to the following conclusion.  The only person I can trust at our God-forsaken club is David Moyes.  Yet, as the club burns in the wake of the Wayne Rooney saga, even his position now looks unclear.

The rumours, lies and half-truths circling the Club since the Man City game have been staggering.  Euro '04 kicked it off big-time, however.  The tournament was a month ago and yet we still await a response from someone, anyone who can put us out of our misery.  Can the Kid and his advisors not see what this is doing to us?  For fuck's sake, if you want to go to Manchester United, then just say so.  I just want a decision to be made soon so the team (and currently that includes you, Wayne) can concentrate on the new season.  Yeah, yeah, yeah "we're professionals and all that..."  No!  Manchester City (16th) 5 - Everton (17th) 1  let's not forget.

This being us, however, we now have a very public boardroom war on our hands, sorry the Gregg vs Kenwright (and the other guy) "Main Event."  We have lost 3 board members and 2 CEOs to get to his point so hopefully, after tomorrow, something will finally have happened.  Having said that, I wouldn't bet against a Mexican standoff with Kenwright clinging to 'power' for another few months as we sail into oblivion.

I don't claim to know an awful lot about the politics of it all but I do know something needs change.  Bill has had his turn; now Gregg wants to have a go, if there are investors in the wings then surely we need to seriously look at the proposals.  This club can't keep living hand to mouth; we can get away with it this summer but what happens next year when virtually all of Walter's signings will be out of contract and need replacing?  We are gonna need some cash then as I don't have much faith with the Robbie Savage/Alan Smith system of purchasing new recruits.  It's humiliating just thinking about it.

The sooner the season kicks off the better; I am slowing going insane.  If Wayne wants to turn his back on us, it's his prerogative... but if he stretches this much further I don't think it will go down very well with the Blue masses.  I really want him to stay but the longer this rumbles on then the less chance we have of progressing as a club.  I would much rather this be resolved one way or another as I can't face the prospect of worrying whether he will be as committed to the cause if something is arranged for the next transfer window. I don't want to cast aspersions on his integrity but that nagging doubt will always be there until we know for sure.

Bring on the unbeaten Champions, we can have 'em!
