Simon Davies: the boy can play

I’m in Camel bar in Huddersfield and I’m pissed. No two ways about it. I’ve got my degree and I’m chilling out enjoying my time while I know I can. I walk up to a little area near the dance floor and I see a mate at the other side. He sees me at the same time and grins over to me like a Cheshire Cat. As we get close to each other he says “You’ve signed Simon Davies”. “Yes I know” is the shaky-looking, unconvinced response. Then I remember he’s a Peterborough fan.

I’m not gonna bore you with the details of what he said about the man but I’ve never heard anyone so enthusiastic about a player in my life, but the general points were this:

  • He can pass: His knowledge of the game is second to none and he’s got a weird knack of finding players when he needs to.
  • His first touch: Dynamic apparently. His turn of pace is quality and when fully fit there’s not much better.
  • His first-time pass: Bear in mind this guys a P’boro nut. Apparently he spots a pass a mile off and plays it. Hopefully the B&B (Beattie and Bent) will see this.
  • His work rate: Second to none apparently. We’ll see.
  • In the air: He gets up and goes for it.
  • Goals? Six a season easy. (if fit)
  • Dribbling: When confident it’s brilliant.
  • Is he a prick?: Don’t worry I grilled him. No
apparently not. My mate met him and said he was sound.

Otherwise, I have a mate who’s a Spurs fan who says he’s good but injury prone.

My point to this is: keep the faith. If Moyes had the same predicament that Smith had then, he’d have rested Ball when necessary and he’d still be playing for us now. The fact is – we got fucked over and he got fucked over. It happens. I’d love a fully fit Ball back right now but can we take the risk on his knee? I admit, Everton owe him something – but not a neglect of our first team. It’s just too important.

Leave it to Moyes. We’ll be fine.

PS: I will admit that I agree to Nick Armitage’s statements that Naysmith is crap, but a risk on Ball is not the answer.

PPS: Davies nickname is Digger. I don’t know why.
