The Ditherer Returns...

By Tony Marsh :  08/06/2007 :  Comments (74) :
I am growing tired of this bullshit we have to put up with from Moyes. Has the man learned nothing from the summer of 2005?

What is going on in his head? Any manager worth two bob would have been planning his transfer strategy for this coming season at the back end of last season then striking the deals as soon as possible in the break. Especially with Europe looming.

While all around us our nearest rivals in the league are busy in the transfer market, we do bugger all again. It's an absolute joke. If I were AJ, I would be down the M6 quicker than you can say Tesco Arena. Another season of running your bollocks off for little reward? No thanks.

The whole club is a shambles from top to bottom and once again we the fans are left to suffer. If the shambolic inactivity in the transfer market isn't bad enough then there is the deadly silence surrounding the ground move to contend with.

Screw the exclusivity deal and tell us ? the supporters ? what the hell's going on. Just for once a little bit of honesty would be nice ? after all, it's us mugs who they will ask to fill the bloody thing.

I can't take much more of this club and its chairman. Nearly every club in the Premier League is or has been linked to foreign investors except us ? WHY? AJ not for sale? My arse! What's the odds on us selling Johnson for big money and Moyes spending half of it on shite and the rest of it disappearing into thin air?

Then, next season, Beattie will be given his 5th "second chance" as Number One Everton Striker, with Vaughany and Victor as support... I can just see it now. "James Beattie has been fantastic this pre-season and we thought it only fair to..." blah, blah, blah!

That twat across the park is right: we are a small club in every way and will remain so until Betty Turpin's long-lost son buggers off.

One more thing: All of you holier-than-thou limp-wristed do-gooders who were up in arms that we might sign Joey Barton ? you got your wish. The lad's gone elsewhere but just you watch him go next season playing for a good manager at a big club. England team certainty, you fools.

So who is it to be then? Jagielka? ? please no. Scharner? ? don't make me laugh. Jason Roberts? ? no way. It's reassuring to know that this summer we have got our eye on some real quality isn't it?

Aye caramba, Tony... You nail ’em good, don’t ya! Although the claim that everything is rotten goes a little OTT as usual, and really does your fundamental asessment no favours.

And there ya go again with the predictions! Last year it was Curbishley and O’Neill... this time it’s Joey Barton... Don’t you every learn?!? ;)

Oh no, another depressing dose of reality from Tony Marsh. If Beattie and Van der Meyde are still here at the start of the season it will be a disgrace. The lads have failed, plain and simple. With a huge amount of wages being consumed between the pair of them, I say they need to be offloaded asap.

I am disappointed to see Barton go to Newcastle. To have signed him would not have been much of a gamble in my opinion. He could have been an invaluable acquisition.

haha.. Tony.. you make me laugh.. you must be on drugs or something. Arteta, Lescott, Cahill, Johnson, Yobo... just a few examples of top quality signings Moyes has made... yes.. he’s made a few bad signings too... but Everon wouldnt be playing European football now if Moyes was crap now.. would they? Hope the drugs do good for you

How Everton fans can still be getting on Moyes? back is absolutely beyond me. Europe for the second time in 3 seasons ... when?s the last time an Everton manager achieved that?

It?s only good news that Barton isn?t coming to Everton. If there?s one thing that Everton have got right over the last few years it?s team spirit. The guy?s bad news and I can?t believe that Newcastle haven?t learnt from Bellamy, Bowyer, Dyer, etc. We don?t want players who think they?re bigger than the club, let alone someone with his record with Everton fans. As usual, Tony Marsh lists who we shouldn?t get, but the only one who he suggests we should have is Joey Barton???

I never comment on these essays, I really don?t but this chap has annoyed me so much. Firstly, can we not have a discussion without reverting to profanities?

Secondly, whatever you say about our chairman, you cannot say he doesn?t love Everton. We may not always agree with his decisions (I certaintly don?t) but you cannot question his desire for us to be great again. He makes mistakes, we all do, but at no time would I ever doubt he is doing what he believes to be right for Everton, it?s not as if he?s in for the money!

Thirdly, any one who has a go at David Moyes is ever so short-sighted. Again, we as fans cannot always agree with or completely validate all of his decisions, but you can?t argue with his record. What do you want, fighting against relegation season after season, or pushing for Europe with a team that contains the likes of Howard, Yobo, Lescott, Arteta, Cahill, Johnson and the young boys Vaughan and Anichebe, to name but a few.

I do agree that not enough information is coming out of Goodison, we need to be better informed on what is going on.

Finally, I?d just like to say that I hope David Moyes never reads the minority of fans comments on the various websites that constantly moan about him, he?s the best thing that?s happened to us in years and there are plenty of big clubs who would love to have him at their helm. Let?s get together and be proactive instead so negative, we finished sixth and we?re in Europe. The future is bright, the future is Blue.

Although Tony always fires from the hip I?ve got to agree that dawdling in signing players is a bad sign. Remember when Everton achieved Champions League qualifiers only to wait and wait and wait for a striker to arrive and when it didn't we faced the humiliation of going out at the first hurdle with a spectacular whimper and then again in the Uefa Cup. With an even smaller squad this time around, thanks to Moyes and BK, even if it now admittedly contains more quality, we are screaming out for squad players and additions to take us to the next stage.

Football doesn?t stand still and neither are our rivals, we need proper squad players not just tokens like Plessis and Bosnar as no doubt these players WILL be called upon to not only appear in our increased fixtures but make a difference when we get injuries, suspensions and players travelling off to international commitments.

So in essence I agree with Tony that Moyes should have been working on targets all the time not just now at the end of the season; it?s part of the job, to wait and wait and wait only to say "Sorry, fans, but our targets were not available," or some BK special such as bidding for some completely unrealistic target after the event will be another insult, and the yo-yo would repeat. Everton need to get a grip and make the next step and keep the momentum of a decent season finish going, anyone really fancy a lower-table finish or European fiasco again?

I think Tony’s made some good points although being over the top. It is very strange why we always seem to take forever in the transfer market. Arteta, Cahill, Fernandes and Lescott’s transfers were all taken years to finish.

I am also annoyed about the Beattie situation. He is not good enough yet we still havent shown him the door. Van Der Meyde’s case is different. From what I remember he was fit for most of the season and It was Moyes reluctance to play him. Every game he played last seasson he was one of the best players on the pitch.

Thats the problem with Moyes he does not have the bottle to get rid of dead wood. that fat spaniard across the park is a perfect example of what Moyes needs to be. He didnt fancy the likes of Cisse, Diouf, Baros and Owen so what did he do got rid of them. Now im not praising him Im just saying thats what Moyes should be doing.

Latly I would just like to say to Tony Marsh to get a life. You make some good points lad yet your always negative. Yes the team, chairman and manager have all got their faults but there what we have got so just deal with it.

Hah, you can tell the Editor’s not a parent, can’t you! The profanity police have now softened things up a little and removed some potentially libelous comments without detracting from Tony’s main thrust which is OTT if you ask me but no doubt strikes a chord with many who are getting restless.

Whilst I don?t agree with the detail of Tony?s critique, I fully agree with him about the dangers of Moyes continuing his dithering ways. This summer, our major opposition clubs generally have more money to put into transfer deals and have clearly demonstrated the ambition to develop their squads and propel themselves into Europe. Given this, we will face stiff competiton from them and Moyes?s habitual dithering, which has undeniably cost us in the past, will surely cost us again. If he dithers to the extent of losing players like Jagielka, Nugent, Fernandes et al, and wastes time and effort in bringing in cast-offs like Roberts, then I wouldn?t give us too much hope of a successful European campaign. If he messes up this transfer window, I wouldn?t give him much hope of continuing at EFC ? even with Blue Bill at the "helm" ? such will be the outcry.

WHAT A CROCK OF SHIT
Selling our best players for shit..........like the Rooney money being used on ?crap? players like Cahill Arteta Johnson.... you muppet.
I have never wrote on here before, but I am starting to get well fucked off with all the doom and gloom. WE FINISHED 6TH, NOT 16TH. Remember that!!! We are a club in a slow albeit steady improvement. I for one am glad there is no foreign investment if it means that the club is in the hands of a very passionate Evertonion and a manager that has clearly taken the club to his heart as much as many of us have.

As for transfers, I will start to worry if we have no one the day before pre season training. The players won't all get to meet 'til then anyway, so, as long as we are actively working behind the scenes to get the best players at the best price for our fantastic club, then I will leave it in the hands of those that have turned us from a team of no-hopers to a team of players that can overturn our neighbours 3 - 0 and take points off 4 of the top 5 clubs and are fast becoming a top six side and European regulars.
COME ON YOU BLUES

Maybe Moyes is a ditherer or there again maybe we only see a little bit of the transfer market movement - that bit we are fed by men in blindfolds trying to sell newspapers.

At the prices and more importantly at the wages these ’failed stars’ are seeking should we be signing men like Parker , Reo Coker or Barton ?

Moyes has made it clear that , for him ,Neville is a central mid-field player. Carsley is essential to the current side and Cahill and Arteta will be in there too. That’s yer midfield , I think (with Osman on the bench).

The back four is settled around 6 players and up front it has to be Johnson and Vaughan.

We need support players in the event of injuries but where would Barton , Parker or Reo Coker have played?

These guys are all stars ’if maybe just in their own heads’ and would have wanted some guarantee of a place each week but are they any better than what we have right now on our books?

Jagielka is a bit different as he covers all along the back four and into mid-field and already he has proved himself a more reliable keeper than Iain Turner.

Said it before............I’ll say it again.

There is no need for panic..............YET !

Glad to hear your acerbic views once again Tony I was really getting bored of all this tabloid transfer shit and no football. I agree with your sentiments, the Club operates as an absolute shambles when it comes to making progress and Kenwright trite as he is seems intent on treading water. I believe that Moyes knows his targets, the transfer budget however is prohibitive and the likes of the Fernandes deal epitomises our position. keep it real Tony !

Yeah, you’re right, we should have signed Barton for 70,000 a week and then lose him to go to prison. He’s a bloody thug. And Parker is a greedy ass as well. We don’t need Viduka, a player who only plays hard when he’s in the last months of a contract. Reo Coker is a premadonna. And many players have been away on Euro qualification and Under 21 games. Nugent has already said he won’t decide until after the Under 21’s. Go crawl back in the hole we have been so glad you have been in during the past few weeks. And take Luq Yussef with ya.

Whilst Tony does get a tad carried away he certainly does make some valid points. It’s all very well saying ’wait and see’ about everything, you morons will still be saying that when the government are pulling us in to be fitted with microchips to track our every move!! Lets bloody not wait and see, i’ve waited and seen it all before, lets make some noise and let them know what we expect I say. It’s about time some of you downtrodden types took a leaf out of Spurs, Villa and Newcastle fans books. They have nothing more to cheer than us, less in fact. They still retain a hell of a lot more ambition than many of you losers though. Listing players like Johnson, Yobo and Cahill as ’top class’. Honestly, if myou think those players are ’top class’ then you need your head reading. They are good premiership players is what they are, very far from ’top class’ though. Everton don’t tend to sign ’top class’ players under David Moyes and any we do stumble accross are quickley marginalised because they don’t work hard enough. I mean, what is the point being a worldclass technical footballer like Manuel Fernandes if you don’t graft like Lee Carsley!!?? We’re in europe..AGAIN!! God only knows how but somehow we made it. We’ve been in this exact same position before though and pissed it up the wall(sorry Dad). With that in mind, please, don’t ask us to ’wait and see’.

This website is NOT a public place beyond your control. As for Joey Barton being "an Alan Ball type player" the writer must never have seen Bally play. Lest we forget, we finished 6th to The "Big Four" (get used to it) and a big spending Spurs. I’m not Moyes No.1. fan but you’ve got to respect that achievement and a reasonable run in the transfer market. Can’t understand anyone who holds a torch for Joey Barton - leaving aside the questionable character he’s a mediocre player.

Tony Marsh, really doesn’t know what he’s talking about, this time last season he was blasting Moyes for not sigining Ferrari permanently, Marsh thought it was such a disgrace that Moyes decided to pass on Ferrari but a few weeks later another Moyes act of genius saw Lescott sign for Everton.

If Tony Marsh had his way the injury prone Ferrari would be at Everton and Lescott would be at Wigan.

Why don’t you keep your mouth closed Tony, let Moyes make his transfers in his own time.

Your opinion is a joke especially since you spent all last season telling us all that the season would undoubtedly fall to pieces.

Well it didnt Tony, Everton qualified for Europe. You seriously dont deserve a manager or a club as great as Everton.

Tony, normally I’m inclined to agree with what you say. Your heart is in the right place, and I think we’ve both seen more downs than ups supporting Everton.

But Joey Barton? Sorry let’s agree to disagree. For all of his faults, Moyes to my mind has learnt one lesson - the importance of dressing room unity. Barton would have wrecked that. He’s an above average player, but with more baggage than Terminal 4 at Heathrow. And IF we do sign Jagielka, I think he’ll surprise a few people. We’ve all been bleating about how we need to add to the squad - his versatility will be vital. IMHO of course...

I think we have all know, seen or heard supporters who get more pleasure from moaning whe a team does badly than from when the team wins. Supporters who leave 5 minutes before the end when it’s the last game of the season, 3-0 up and the team has qualified for europe.

It looks like Tony is one of them. I think what has been achieved over the last 4 seasons has earned David Moyes our trust. Not since the glory years of the 1980’s have we had so many players that top clubs throughout europe would love to have in their team.......and none of whom have we paid over the odds for. We have gone past the stage were we need mass signings to make the team good enough simply to reach mid table.

Moyes seems to have a view on the character of the players that he wants at the club......and players like barton do not fit into that. Why should he risk spoiling what we’ve got in terms of obvious togetherness of a group of players just to please some supporters who want to see a signing or two before the middle of June.

Let’s give our support to david moyes and fight back against the people who are deliberately trying to undermine the management of the club......and for what ends.........a good moan when it goes pear-shaped???????

I’m glad some supporters are back with the ability to see the realities from the closet world other supporters like David Barks and the other Moyes zealots live in. Moyes clearly has dithered this window, and will continue to dither us he really is set in a mold of ordinariness.

Maybe thats why Barks loves him so much, his life seems a carbon copy of Moyes; plain and non adventurous! I recommend, Barks, you either re-educate yourself by renting a DVD of Everton in the 70’s and 80’s and see a team in their hay day. Or consult your local shrink as you clearly have conflict issues son.

And why are people getting touchy with what Michael posted? If you don’t like it, go to ic Liverpool where its always good news at Everton. Don’t expect any challenging thoughts though!

Tony....oh dear.

If you think moyes is in charge of finaces at our club you have no idea how a football club is run. I used to blame moyes but not now. Keith Wyness is in charge of money, Moyes can only suggest players and potential signings it is then up to the club to back the manager.

So its Wyness you should be blaming not Moyes but lets face it hes Scottish so hes not exactly loose with the money is he. Contracts start on July 1st so nothing much will happen till then anyway because why waste half a mil in wages when they cant play football anyway? I personally would like to see us sign players much quicker and if we do want Jagielka, just buy him and stop arsein round tryin to palm naysmith of on them, hes only £4m for gods sake and he cant be earning that much money.

One more point....apart from MAN UTD who else around us is signing players??? NO-ONE you muppet!

THE BIGGEST SIGNING WE SHOULD MAKE THIS SUMMER IS MIKEL ARTETA ON A FIVE YEAR DEAL!

I seriously can’t believe that this is the mentality of some of the goodison faithful after the transfer market has been open a week. Moyes isn’t dithering I’m sure he’s out trying too get the best out of his money he can possibly get, I would gladly have Jagielka for 2.5 million with Naysmith going the other way over a straigth cash deal. Moyes has too be more proactive with his money then most managers and he did a damn fine job of it last season. Lets just keep our traps shut and see where we stand at the end of July.

P.S. No way is any Liverpool manager ever right about anything they say about our club. You sure your not a kopite?

39   Posted 10/06/2007 at 09:51:01

I note Tony claims all our rivals are busy in the transfer market yet we do nothing! I can only find the following:
  • Arsenal - signed nobody yet;
  • Sibierski to Wigan on a free! should we have had him?
  • Viduka to Newcastle on a free - would have had him 2 years ago but not now.
  • Gavin McCann to Bolton.
  • Adel Taarabt (17) turns loan into deal at Spurs - big deal! Athletic Bilbao youngster Yuri Berchiche joins him.
  • Man Utd - Nani (£17m) and Anderson (£20m) and Hargreaves (out of our price range.)
  • Reading -nothing
As for the stadium - when the G14 clubs set move to their own Eurpoean league in the next decade we will be left as the best of the rest without the money - Sy money will go to the G14 boys and there will be no Champions League money. Any club saddled with debt for a new stadium will die a cruel death. I would prefer a new stadium in the city but unless we find a backer there will be no option but to follow Tesco to Kirkby.

You state, "The whole club is a shambles from top to bottom and once again we the fans are left to suffer." Rather a sweeping statement but I am sure you have the inside knowledge to make this an informed statement rather than a headline seeking one.

I can only suggest that you may be better place joining that "Twat" across the park if you think we are a small club.

On the Barton front - yes he is a good player but preferred a move away from Merseyside. (Just look at Bellamy - some moaned we let him go but Moyes felt he was not suitable so it has turned out.)
I trust you know Moyes transfer target list, which is why you criticise it. Can you post it for the rest of us to comment on please. In short stop ranting and get some educated opinion to discuss in future.

After the progress made last season, I ind it frustrating that we haven?t kept things going thus far in the close season. I want to hang on to that high I felt at the end of the season for as long as possible. I want to see us sign quality players just as much as you do, Tony.

The problem I have with your post is that the season did actually finish on a high. Our best squad in a while playing some of our best football, albeit inconsistently, plus David Moyes being more flexable with tactics. While one big borefest at this stage these points still hold true. I can?t understand why you have to be so negative on all fronts.

Also, the transfer window is only open a week, be patient for God?s sake. On saying that though, I can see why you would be so concerned about some of the deadwood. With limited funds we do need to raise cash for players that will add to the squad. I don?t want to see time running out and the club getting desperate.

I have to agree. There is a lot of dithering and complacency from David Moyes. What has happened regarding Manuel Fernandes? Is he staying on loan, signing on as an Everton player or is he on his way back home? Why hasn?t that been wrapped up by now?

What of Anderson da Silva? You would?ve expected a man planning for the future to have dealt with the future of these players very quickly and closing in on his other targets, rather than put his whole transfer strategy on hold, depending on whether Sheffield United decide on selling their prized asset, subject to whether they stay in the Premier League or not. I can certainly understand the frustration from my fellow blue noses.

I have to agree with a lot of what was said in this article. We never seem to press home our advantage, and build on success. It?s as if the club are relieved that weve had a higher finish than usual and sit back on their laurels.

This is the mighty Everton ? not Wigan. We should be busting a gut to overtake our neighbours, who seem to win cups with ease, whereas we never get anywhere near. And what happened to the mysterious ?Fortess Sports Fund?? BK and Moysie need to aim higher, Barton was a necessity and Moyes knew that in January. What will we get now with our limited resources? If Jason Roberts comes here them it shows a backward step: we got rid of Marcus Bent who is similar yet probably even better.

"I think well regret not buying Barton, he?s an Alan Ball type player and we needed him."

Never mention a thugish lout like Joey Barton in the same sentance as the gentleman that was Alan Ball. EVER.

Total muppet.

You make me sick, Tony. We all sometimes feel frustrated about what's going on at Everton, from top to bottom but to come on here and rant like a fool is pathetic. It amazes me you are given frontpage status at this site. Villa... signed no-one... Blackburn the same etc etc, Liverpool for all their talk... No new signings (apart from that out-of-contract Ukrainian). You also seem to ignore last summer's early and hugely successful transfer raids. Buck your ideas up Tony, or bugger off and support someone else.

That is the most ridiculous article I have ever had the misfortune to read. That has got to be a wind up. I genuinely despise the negativity of this site sometimes. We are in the best situation we have been in for years. Why criticise our manager for being careful with our limited resources? Bearing in mind that he has bought Cahill, Arteta, Lescott, Johnson, Yobo, Howard etc etc for reasonable prices in the past, and forged what virtually every Everton player says is the best team spirit they have ever known.

Give him a break. He’s the best thing that our club has had in years.

Baseless nonsense, the ramblings of someone with their mind made up about Moyes before he can do anything. Check the date, which leaves plenty of time before pre-season let alone any pre-season tours, have a look outside and crack a beer open in this lovely weather. You have more important things to worry about.

It is too early to hit the panic button. In 2005 we were linked with Scott Parker but he wanted 60 grand a week as did Emre. Neither of these are worth that much money. We were going to buy Forsell and luckily the medical prooved he was crocked. The only big mistake was the Sissoko thing. We shot our mouths off that he was coming to us and low and behold he was snapped up by Liverpool. So I am only happy to hear that we have actually signed somebody rather than all the media stuff. Let’s hope Moyes has got his targets but is keeping it all under wraps so that Liverpool etc don’t come in a gazump us.

How can you say that barton going to newcastle means he is going to a big club with a good manager point 1. Newcastle are NOT a big team they are just well supported and point 2. Sam AINT a good manager the reason he never got the england job is because the FA did not want possibly the most talented england team in a generation to be turned into a long ball outfit.

I couldn’t agree more. David is a ditherer - he never, ever signs any of my players or agrees to pay them the wages we ask for! If only Moyes could be more like Rafa and Sam!

not so long ago moyes got slated for inactivity in the potential signings of m. forsell(dodgy knee) not paying over the odds for emre(who has set newcastle alight!!!) not paying enough for bellamy who struggles to keep a beanpole out of the team all 3 decisions not to sign were widely criticised but have proven to be good choices, if moyes is not certain then he wont just go for it and this has to be good for the club. to of signed barton would of been an outrage. obviousley there is somthing going on behind the scenes that we dont know about but we still finished 6th and each of moyes last 3 signings have been superb 2 of which came from the championship! whoever he goes for he’ll get my support ya doing a great job moyes. please get fernandes though. thanks for your opinion tony however delirious it may be

Joey Barton an Alan Ball type player!? Flipping heck Rob what a dastardly gentleman you must be to so blatantly demean the Great Man by comparing him to that thug. Neither as a man nor as a player does the thug compare!

(Hard work trying to refrain from cussing innit?)

I think a major problem with Everton attracting a better class of player is wages. Was it not Moyes who said he thought Everton were a good proposition for the type of player who was just below top-four standard? Not when the likes of Newcasle, West Ham, Spurs and Portsmouth, clubs after the signatures of the same kind of players are willing to offer far more lolly in the players pocket, Davey. Paying the transfer fee is only part of the business....settling personal terms (usually wage demands) is the other. Most players today are more interested in what they are paid rather than who they play for, which brings us back to the comparison of Alan Ball with Joey Barton. Nuff said.

Whilst the article is way OTT in it’s criticism - I can understand the underlying frustration - given our performance in ’05 summer window - which was laughable.

We appeared to have learnt the lesson from that & summer ’06 we moved swiftly & decisively.

Moyes did warn that this window wouldn’t see the same swift action - but also that it’d be a busy window with plenty of coming & going.

It’s only early June FFS - Barton aside only the Mancs have spent their cash - so why panic now???? If we’re still sat wondering who’s coming in - come late July -THEN we can start panicking & calling Bill & Moyes everything from a pig to a dog - until then - save it - have some effing patience man....

I just thought I’d be gracious and say goodbye, and thanks.

I’ve been visiting this site (and its forebears, ’Evertonia’ etc.) for some time. However, when it persists in publishing the sort of shi*te Tony Marsh and Luq Yussef are wont to write about the club I love, then I think it’s time to remove your address from my ’favourites’ bar and go elsewhere. I?m afraid your website only ever seems to infuriate me these days ? and we?re supposed to support the same team FFS!

Cheerio!

Crap article.

Guys, this is a clear example of those "minority" so called Evertonians.

I have been an Evertonian for 20 years and I am from Malaysia. I think Moyes is the best since Howard Kendall.

Why doesn’t Tony try and apply the manager post at Everton?

Question - How do any of us know what Moyes is or is not doing in the transfer market? Hopefully, Moyes carries out his business confidentially via other managers and agents, rather than the back pages of the tabloids. If nothing has happened by mid-July, then it will be the time to worry.

Of the players who?ve moved so far were any realistic targets?
Barton - the jury is out about his attitude & ability; Parker turned us down once coz of stupid demands & he wanted to return to London; Reo Cocker has his doubters as well. 17 million for Owen Hargreaves! the mind boggles, I think we would all be calling for Moyes? head if he paid half that for Hargreaves.

Nugent is good but unproven & Preston?s asking price is completely unrealistic.

As for selling VdM & Beattie there is probably one slight problem. If 40,000 Evertonians think they are both bollocks, then most managers will hold the same opinion.

As loathe as I am to repsond to such contemptible nonsense, a little perspective needs to be thrown on proceedings: all football fans suffer from myopia but we seem to specialise in it; the notion that other clubs are playing better football, signing better players, playing in bigger stadiums. Occasionally what is necessary is to step back from the heady emotion of being a Blue and try and cast a degree of objectivity on proceedings. It appears to many of us are afflicted, one, by spending to much time reading the gossip columns and two, by the idea that signing footballers is a s imple as it used to be on Champ Manager. For last close season alone, DM deserves our trust and faith - if he can conjure 3 more players that have the impact of Lescott, Howard and AJ then we have had a productive preseason. But boys, can we all calm down until the end of August when I would be very surprised if Moyes doesn?t carry on his trend of learning and improving from every season he?s been in charge at Goodison.

I have read some tripe in my years but never as much in some of the points and responses from this article. Tony grow up, how do you know what the manager is up to, and against in his daily dealings for our club. You trade in conjecture only. The pillock who suggests Barton is an Alan Ball type of player never watched him play. Barton is a shithouse and a thug . A club of our stature should never ever contemplate signing a man of this nature. BIG SAM IS WELCOME TO HIM. He changed a great Lancashire club into a stadium of moaning crying bastards.

ps:How many bets that he is around to see him play?

I’ve got mates who are Newcastle fans and they’re certainly not happy they’ve signed Barton and Viduka.

Seriously though with the doom-merchant stuff, I just don’t understand. Yes we need players, but not just anyone. Let’s see what players have come in (and maybe left) at the beginning of next season, not this early on.

Still "Betty Turpin’s long-lost son" made me laugh.

A lot of very harsh comments here Tony! I think you are being too hard on Moyes.
Firstly, how many clubs (barring Man U) have actually signed many, if any players? Very few. And of course we’re talking an even smaller number of good players here.
Secondly, who knows whether he was or wasn’t planning in advance?? Just because we have nothing to show for it yet doesn’t mean anything, no more than it does for any of the other clubs in the league. You’re getting way to worked up. The market has only been open a couple of weeks and between the Spanish league not finishing, Sheffield U’s problems, people being on holiday and the U21 championships, no wonder nothing has been nailed down yet.
Thirdly, we are not a small club. Apart from the fact that that point was clarified at the time, Liverpool have also failed to sign anyone of significance either - does that make THEM a small club? Hardly. Does it mean Rafa is a dithering, indecisive, penny pinching idiot?? Again, no; no more than David Moyes is.
I for one would prefer the thing to be done right than panic at the thought of our small squad going into Europe, frantically grabbing a clutch of players no-one else wants in the first week, and then sit back with all our money spent while the intelligent ones wait and let the market mature over the next few weeks, and let competitions and leagues and holidays finish.
If he were to listen to you, we’d all be sitting here nice and relieved at what we’ve signed for abuot 2 days before we realise we should have waited like anyone else with half a brain would. ood job YOU’RE not the manager or we’d all be reacting to you (justifiably) in a manner similar to the way you’ve lashed out in your post here!
So ease up on the miserable, insulting, degrading, insulting, defeatist, fatalist, negative and frankly unfounded tirade, and give the man a chance to work! I expect you’ll look back on your outburst in the coming weeks with shame and a sheepish embarrasment.

What a load of rubbish. How can a "fan" upbear so much negativity against Everton and Moyes?? It’s beyond my senses.... Everton are making progress, and Moyes is guiding us in the right direction.
10 days has gone since the transfer-window opened and you’re complaining we haven’t signed anyone yet. Signing players often demand negotiations, and negotiations can take time... I think you need to lighten up. Check out the latest season review instead of complaining.... Then you might get some postive vibes instead....
