OK I admit I'm "smalltime" - whatever that means - but did anyone else greet the news of the Carragher testimonial with absolute incredulity? After his comments about Everton fans in his biography, I would have thought that the last people he would want to share his professional farewell with are a bunch of "bitter blues"...
I don't have a problem with David Moyes accepting the invitation but it's rank hypochrisy on Carragher's part.

The fact that a testimonial is taking place, to line the pockets further (unless it's going to charity) of someone who has had a long career at the top and must have earned enough for several lifetimes, is incredible.
It just shows how "classless" and two faced some people can be... perhaps he sees it as taking the piss out of Evertonians who'd pay to go and watch him.
I, for one, WON'T be one of them.

Carragher is very well known in the city for his support and personal interest in things you won't read about in the tabloids.
I know of a couple of times he`s gone to incredible lengths to keep promises made to Kids teams.
Support the charity if you can afford to guys.
Carragher is giving all the proceeds of his testimonial to children's charities in the Merseyside area. Can you think of a better game to promote that?
Carragher should be applauded for his decision. I'm sure there are plenty of kopites who'd rather see a big European club instead. And still we whinge...

Is it possibel to donate without going and applauding that two face snarling horrible overrated gobshite? I can't stand him but am not so petty or "small time" to blinker that from any good that can be done.

I think the idea of an Everpool match is a great one for the community. There was one in the mid-80s against United/City I seem to recall, and giving all proceeds to charity, splendid.
For what it's worth, his publishing house/ghost writer induced him to write something tasty about us, hence the leak in advance, and more ker-ching. I wouldn't read too much into it...
And i can't believe some of the comments here, ridiculous, if for example Lee Carsley came up with the idea and wanted a charity testimonial against Liverpool for charity, would you be so negative?
By the way, Alan, what I give to charity, and how, is none of your business but I can assure you it's a lot more than a "measly fiver" so please don't purport to know about me or my business.
Maybe Carragher should have used his "saintly" side on previous occasions where he referred to Everton (or allowed a ghost writer to). I support several local charities and earn substantially less than him, but does that mean it's ok for me to slate and slander others? Would it be ok then for me to call you a pompus knobhead, simply because I support local kids too? No! it wouldn't. I stand by my comment about him being "classless".....

I read about his antics at the Liverpool crimbo doo in town the night him and Babb got collared in a bar with a load of strippers (News of the World story). It was his turn for the karoake and he got up to sing a song, don't know what he was getting up to sing but started with the lines of "You are my Everton, my only Everton, you make me happy, when skies are grey. You never told us.........." And was then promptly dragged off stage by Fowler and Co.
Like one previous poster advised, he is a hypocrite. I hope all goes well for the relevant charity, but not something I will be contributing to, just because it has his name attached to it.
I've been thinking Nigel Martyn in goal. Unsworth, Stubbs are likely in defense with some others. Not sure about midfield... maybe Lee Carsley will fancy the chance. And then Carragher has already stated he would like to see Duncan Ferguson up front, maybe Kevin Campbell another possible? But as the the team will be managed by David Moyes, I'd assume well only have one of those up front.
As it will be taking place during an international break, will our current players be involved?

As we are rivals to LFC then I think it is perfectly reasonable to wish them ill fortune and refuse to help laud Jamie Carragher.
The relative cash positions of the clubs were the reason behind the bag waving because at that time they thought they had some.
I don't forget why our opportunity to become a European name dissapeared in the eighties;
I don't forget the sudden rule changes that allow a club who failed basic European qualification to take part in the Champions League;
I don't forget Benitez calling us 'a small club';
I look forwards to us finishing well above them next season because I support Everton exclusively.
I remember Duncan Ferguson, when he visited Alder Hey on an almost daily basis, but he didnt feel the need to look for recognition for his deeds. Perhaps it was that he was fortunate enough to be in a position to do that and he done it because it made him feel like a nice person without having to advertise it to everyone.

Last time I checked I can't recall any genocide in Everton's history against the RS or anyone else and in our few European excursions I certainly don't remember the death of foreign supporters, something sadly the RS can't claim.
You are showing your age at being slightly over 50 as it was in the mid-60s for the great and one and only Wiliam Ralph Dean.
Not sure how we could do it this time — native English speakers on one team, no native on the other?
