Joe to go?
Comments (33)
After reading some reports that Joseph Yobo may leave this summer, I was interested to know what my fellow TW'ers would think if he did move on?
Personally, I do believe if we were to get a good price for him, over the £5-6m range I think it would be a good bit of business as I believe he is not going to get any better... actually, I think he has got worse over the last few years after a very promising start to his Everton career.
So what do you think?

We could hardly afford an established star with the money, and whoever his replacement would be would need time to bed into the squad. So I'd definitely keep him in the short term (assuming he's happy to be a squad member of course).
Having said that, £5-8m for him would be a good price for a squad player and could go towards that right winger we all would love to see.
Distin as well is not convincing and old.
Yobo should stay for me we need good squad players too not just a first 11.
There's no doubt that in most games and on his day he's a brilliant centre half with great aerial ability and pace, but he does still make the odd mistake which could cost him his Everton career? Stuart I would not sell him for £6 million, he's worth more than that in today's climate, we just paid over £5 mill for Distin and he's better and younger than him!
Personally, I think he still has a lot to offer, he's just lost his way for one reason or another. It must kill him to see the likes of Distin and Senderos getting ahead of him in the pecking order. He seems reduced now to substitute appearances in the 90th minute.
If Moyes can just instill a bit more confidence in him, I believe he could be back to his near best and without a doubt warrant a place in the side.
If we get £4million for example, it doesn't mean we can only buy a player for £4million. The money could be used as a first installment on a bigger transfer deal, and the rest paid over coming years, eg, the Fellaini deal. Yobo is also one of the higher earners at the club.
Peter; Out of curiosity... where would the second installment come from?
Yes he has been a good servant and he does have blistering pace, but I don't rate him as a CB. Personally I would have loved to have see him playing @ RB - I think the time is right for him to go, he would be a quailty addition to anyone coming up from the Championship.
Fair enough
We could then bring in Senderos for free as cover for a year or two (yeah I know he's not much cop but for nothing and for a year or two he will do and then we could fetch in a fee for him when we want rid!) and with the money from the Yobo sale, that could go towards signing a much needed right winger.
Let's be honest, what would we all rather have, Yobo in the side or an effective RW like Donovan or someone else? I know what I'd rather have. When we had Donovan we were on a right run, our form matched the likes of Man Utd's and Chelsea's; did Yobo figure much in that run? I don't think so... so I think we could go without him and we definitely need our RW position sorted!
I would compare Joseph with the likes of Titus Bramble and the the Greek fella who plays for our neighbours. Would you be happy if we signed someone like that?
Yobo is probably on quite a high wage and by getting rid of him will free up some wage budget. This will allow us to give Rodwell a increased wage, and the hopes of him signing are much more likely now as United now have Smalling and Evans (just signed a new contract).
Use part of the transfer fee to give Pienaar his contract demands, and make sure we keep our first and best eleven together.

IMO Yobo is as good as Distin (and younger) and better than Senderos, has better distribution than Jags so in orfer of the exit door I would have Senderos (free or not he will command wages), Distin,Yobo and Jags (early days but he is struggling to get back to the do or die defending pre-injury).
If we are to get into the top 4 we need a much better defensive pairing than we currently have available.
Duffy may be a very good prospect but at the back there's no substitute for experience (Just ask Stubbsy or Davy Weir).
He is not good enough anymore for the level we are trying to crack so maybe for the bench.
Senderos is a great lumpen troll. I doubt a team would sign him in the Garston Sunday League. A player that makes you want to leave the ground in shame. Bloody awful.
Distin is a less than average centre-half and has been shown up for what he is over the season. We need cover for Jag's and Heitinga as well as a consistent striker who can play more than 25 matches a season and get the goals to match his minutes on the pitch.
I hope for one we palm off Distin & Yobo to the Boltons & Wigans of the world so we can bring in much needed re-inforcements.
Agree entirely with you. I like Joey but his idea of distribution is simply to lump the ball forward as quickly as possible. Not what we want unless you guys love hoofball. With Senderos, I had high hopes Moyes would be able to bring out the best in him, but alas, it was not to be. Send him back from whence he came, I say. I reckon another left back as backup for Bainsey and another striker should be our priorities.
Ideally we'd get some more cash (I think £4M+ is reasonable) to chip towards the right/up front from an area where we do have a little cover. Ideally we'd have another loaner or bring in a youth as cover though — would like to feel we had four centre-backs from day 1 to cover injuries.
Martin Petrov? I saw him linked with West Ham in he papers today for a free transfer. Why don't we go for him? Tricky, good left foot, can play in both flanks. Yes maybe he's not the quickest and may want a bit of wages, but surely worth it for a player of his quality?
Is it worth the goals he scores? hardly. It's absolutely no coincidence Everton play poorly at the back when he is playing.
He is no longer surplus to requirements, why people think this player is good is beyond me. What we want is a defender who does not panic under pressure, can actually pass the damned ball to a team mate. A skillfull, cool-headed player who does not panic when he gets the ball is what he is not. He makes tons of mistakes that at our level of football is just not acceptable, and no doubt the very reason moyse tries not to play him.
I guess the reason that he has made a number of starts this year, is for window dressing for the summer sale. I think if we get £3 million for him we'd be robbing the buying the team.
What good is pace if he spends 2/3rds of the match fast asleep? For moments of inspiration he may very rarely provide he does not warrant a place either in the team or on the bench, I'd rather go with an untried Coleman imo.
