Another Season Ends

Nearly there. Thank God! Too many up and down moments and not enough consistency — to state the bleedingly obvious.
But as the season exhales its last bronchitic breath, I wonder if we could all offer Michael, Lyndon — and whoever else — our thanks for providing an adult forum where the wildly optimistic and wrist slittingly depressive have equal chance to express their, probably delusional, beliefs?
As a computer know nothing, I have no idea how much time and effort have to be expended in order for this excellent site to be maintained but I expect it is more than the average guy would devote to anything else than football. Thanks, guys.
Thanks also to Eugene and Ciaran for their insightful comments, to Richard Dodd for his comedic genius and Tony Marsh for his pure love of the club.
See you in August!

To Michael and Lyndon, yes, it would be interesting to see "a day in the life of" when you get up on the Saturday/Sunday morning and flash up the Match Day Forum.... how about letting us in on that one sometime? I've often wondered how you react when some of those "acid letters" hit your cyberspace...
Thanks and thanks again for what you do for all us "Evertonians" in the outer regions of our earth — we WOULD be lost without you.
Off topic, but if anyone hasn't seen the Hibs Vs Motherwell game the link is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsdR-KoB_pQ Jutkiewicz's last minute equalizer was a belter.
The whole TW team do a great job and long may it continue.
Speaking of Marshy and Doddy....... where have they gone.
We have a new poster under the name of Richard Dodd but he's nothing like the old poster however Marshy has done the equivalent of the invisible man.
Well done to all those behind the TW scenes for their hard work, and also to all the contributors!
I don't post often, but it's religious reading for me! I wouldn't have the site any other way!
Here's to a good summer, and starting the pre-season with Gosling, Neville, Heitinga, and Fellaini ... aka the 'New Signings!'
ps - Alex, note also that Seamus was very much involved in Blackpool's game today.
A big thanks to all who run this site. I've spent plenty of time reading comments on here and nobody does Irony like us blues
Here's to another painful close season and transfers on 31 August...
Keep the blue fires of debate raging, gents!
And now for another summer of transfer rumours and a bunch of crap... cheers!
Since I'm the only one stating we're lifting the Trophy this time next season (without doubt), your reference to, " the wildly optimistic" meant me. I'm expecting by-name propers in here next May (I'll remember you) when you, Eugene, and, Ciaran are declaring you knew it all along.
Minimal injuries, Donovan back, Rodwell fulfilled. That trophy's ours.
I didn't bother watching the Stoke game. We were murdered in the Europa frankly so maybe better out of it; the CL... forget it! How on earth did Fulham manage? — Well I guess they had a luckier pathway too avoided those demon Portuguese... boy can they play! Portugal is even in for the WC!
As for winning the PL, delusional is not even close to describing that! But dream on, dream on, I guess... though I don't dream much anymore, Everton are a childhood, a bit that will not die... but it's not the days of Alan Ball, God rest his soul, and Royal Joe. Tottenham have outpaced us for the heights and we still can't better the reds shites.
Only a few great memories from this season: beating Man City EASILY, 3-3 draw with Spurs, beating Manure two-nil was it? Otherwise we lost too many and drew too many against lower clubs I am afraid.
Not sure of the future, short of massive investment... we may just trundle on the top half — not very exciting though. Football needs to be overhauled, it's in real danger of becoming a bore with the same old same old — pack the top three of four off to a Euro League permanently, bring in Rangers and Celtic and Cardiff — let's have a Brit league and new blood and get some life into this show... and yes, 60% British players! Yeah and cut these blighters' wages — it's more than obscene!
TY Michael, Lyndon, and all the regulars.
Such a great site for an American surrounded by the "other" football. Don't know what I'd do without TW.
Keep up the great work!
Great shout out Mike.
You REALLY want me on here next year looking bad don't you?.
Actually, nothing wrong with thatl - you've probably noticed, I'm a big fan of the "told you I was right" post myself.
Problem is, I might not be here next year.
I'm not ill or anything, but I am a fat 50 year old smoker who eats and drinks too much.
Consequently, there's EVERY chance I could keel over at any minute.
To be honest, I've already seen the end.
After a few pints of Guinness, I'm in BK getting stuck into a double Angus with large fries and a XL Fanta.
Next minute I'm clutching my chest, slumping to the deck and feebly trying to mouth my final words.
("Ke..n...wrigh...t you.....cu.........." Expels final breath)
If this DID happen in the next 11 and a bit months, you would be denied the chance to see (read) me pathetically back-tracking on TW if Everton win the title next year.
You would be denied what would rightfully be yours.
So here is that groveling, back-tracking post...NOW!
If Everton win the league, simply copy and paste it, save it and if you don't hear from me on TW, post it yourself.
(I won't be bothered by my tarnished reputation coz I'll be dead - everyone's a winner!)
Here it is...
"Hi, I'm Eugene Ruane who is definitely not dead. Well, what can I say? Not only was I wrong I was TOTALLY wrong and can I use this opportunity to mention James Flynn, who, this time last year, was the only one to predict this. I think in future when James has something to say, we listen! To be honest, I thought we had no chance of winning anything, then after Pienaar left, I thought we had even LESS chance. Who (apart from James!) would have guessed that Beckford would arrive and score 39 goals in his first season? I for one have learned my lesson."
If its any comfort (which I doubt), there was a fine old character years ago at the Red Lion who was fond of getting, as he put it, onto his hind legs and announcing various kinds of doom. One night he amazed the assembled by staggering over to the payphone, dialing 999 and asking for an ambulance as he was having a heart attack.
"Yes ..... I'm in the public bar of the Red Lion .... Oh, and if I'm not there, I'll be in The Turnpike."
He was genuinely surprised when the operator cut him off. "Damn this country" or similar he muttered.
He survived for many seasons after that as I recall.
(I wish there was a shorter way of saying that!)
I've not posted a single word here in an attempt to make one of my fellows look bad. You included. (JD excepted which I was wrong and apologized for).
We all want the team to lift the Trophy. Can't see how anyone of us will look bad and I'll never bring it up when it happens. We know we have finally the talent (Add Donovan. He wants in and a deal can be cut).
I've enjoyed my 5 months here and obviously, and realistically, look forward to a rosy future.
But, Eugene, you (and anyone else) want something to be "wrong" about? Demand DM refuse to sign American Charlie Davies from whatever French team he's signed to currently. EFC couldn't possibly need a sprinting young man who lives to put the ball in the net. What the hell good would that fellow do for us next season?
