Heitinga to City?
Comments (65)
In Dutch press, there is some speculation about Heitinga going to Man City. See link for the article:
http://www.telegraaf.nl/telesport/wk2010/6810482/__Heitinga_ziet_City_wel_zitten__.html?p=3,1
The article says City are interested in Johnny, they do not name a source but bring it as given. Heitinga is quoted as saying he heard the rumour but that it is no more than that; he thinks City is an ambitious club and that he wouldn't reject a move to a big club. But he also states he has 4 years to go on his contract with no minimum fee release clause and that he is very happy at Everton.
It's no more than media speculation, the "Telegraaf" is not quite the most reliable source. To put it into perspective: today's front page contains an article about Hul Hogan's surgery and the haunted house of Kate Moss. And which player would reject a move to a big club? It's just a pity that he sees City as a bigger team according to this article...

We can just do another Heitiga and keep making massive profit every year on a defender .
3 Posted 29/05/2010 at 17:58:45
Perhaps Mr. Moyes may end up regreting his very public slagging of shitty and the way they do business.
While I agree with him and appreciated his soundbites... I wonder if they will continually make runs at our players ????
4 Posted 29/05/2010 at 17:58:10
I think they are delibratley linking themselves with our best players just to piss us off after the Lescott farce last summer. I mean Arteta,Jags,Pienaar,Rodwell and now Johnny H so something isn't right.
And it is disappointing if Johnny sees that crowd as a bigger club,he should learn more about English football.
5 Posted 29/05/2010 at 18:10:38
Heitinga is twice as good as Lescott, so it should be at least 30 mill
6 Posted 29/05/2010 at 18:19:25
This could get excruciatingly tedious.

Im a pessimist at the best of times, and I hate hearing this shit.
I pray to God that Mikel gets a new contract soon to show his commitment to the club.
These fucking soundbites we are always hearing are making me fucking sick.
Finally, I really fucking hate Man City and eveything about their two bob arsehole club. I hate the fans, the management, the mercenary players and the way the media now fucking loves them.
Sorry about the fucking swaering, im going for a fucking lie down...

City cannot decide which Everton player they want - let alone if they are for sale.
Someone else on Toffeeweb said it best on another post ... "Rather than buy Everton players at hugely inflated prices, WHY didn't Sheikh Mansour buy Everton in first place." after all we are the better team.

He's only been here for a year, he isn't an Evertonian, and if I recall correctly there is a fair chance he took a paycut to stay.
Also he joined a club expecting to be in Europe and pushing for CL, well we failed with that one didn't we.

After last season's second half, guys don't really want to go and Moyes doesn't want them to leave. What for? Not that movement won't happen. That's professional athletics.
But this almost daily "report" of a player coming or going? We don't have anything over here in America that compares.
20 Posted 30/05/2010 at 00:50:21
How the fuck does Heitinga `know' of City's wish to employ him?
Have Man City formally contacted EFC?
If not, can't we bubble the bastards?

I want players who want to play for our club. Nobody is bigger than the club!!! Fair play to Jack the lad, showing true class for such a young lad.
23 Posted 30/05/2010 at 01:37:06
I guess it's not a concern over there. It is kind of funny reading, though. What the hell. England and the US are cousins not identical twins. Can't be all alike.
24 Posted 30/05/2010 at 01:59:39
The papers jump on it and then the supporters of all those clubs do as well, hence all the BS. The problem is that you know that 95% of the speculation is just garbage, but it turns out that the other 5% comes to fruition. So the difficulty is trying to separate the two.
Then you have the stuff which is partially true. For example, we spent a lot of the 2008 summer chasing Moutinho and a lot of the 2009 summer chasing M'Bia, neither of which came to fruition. The other difficulty then comes when you get direct quotes from a player or his agent, as in this thread. You don't know what to think. It's a minefield, but it sure as hell (as you guys would say) keeps us entertained during the close season!

There is a wider factor that could help the chill factor. Fans judge players through lens of thier own passion for the club. Most players don't have this — they are well paid and highly mobile employees. Cherish the ones that have that passion; expect a fair day's work for a (more than) fair day's pay from the rest.
29 Posted 30/05/2010 at 10:21:34
Tony Parsons (11) said it all for me so fuck them if they have that attitude.
30 Posted 30/05/2010 at 11:07:20
Firstly, footballers (like the majority of us out there) are paid employees. I'm happy where I work and I get a decent wage, but if another firm called me up and offered more money? If we're being honest, most of us would take it.
Secondly, there's been no official approach. Citteh haven't come out and said they fancy him (personally, I think he's too similar to De Jong) so this is good old-fashioned page-filling shite (you may have noticed there's not much football about at the moment so, unless the shitepress are going to do 12-page 'exclusives' about Dag & Red v Rotherham, we'll have to suffer stories like this).
And finally, put yourself in the shoes of a footballer and you’re asked by a journalist to comment on a story that Citteh or the Arse or whoever is coming in for you. You can hardly reply that you wouldn’t play for them cos they’re a right load of old shite, just in case you end up seeking employment with them — burning bridges, anyone?
What we’ve got to hope for between now and the World Cup is for John Terry to be caught in a gay bath house with David (call me Dave) Cameron, Nick Glegg and a goat, or Cashley to be copped snorting Charlie while roasting a lap dancer with Berlusconi... in fact anything, any fucking thing to keep this shite out of the papers.
31 Posted 30/05/2010 at 11:52:48

He could have said nothing.
His comments will rankle supporters...and rightly so - because we have an emotional investment - and they don't.
I just feel sorry for the more naive amongst us who think footballers are not self-serving.

Ciarán McGlone #30 — take no notice until the player's pictured with the shirt declaring his undying love for what was his favourite team when he was at school.

No doubt if a move to Wastelands doesn't happen, Johnny H will come back saying he's been 'misquoted'.
39 Posted 30/05/2010 at 16:43:25
Because they had willing sellers. We clearly don't
40 Posted 30/05/2010 at 18:14:58
No, not JH unfortunately. That was Modric on signing a new Spurs contract today.
Spot the difference? The seed is sown. He may as well have said 'come and get me'. This could be another Lescott type saga.

The British press basically feed us what we want to hear. On one side we're beside ourselves because our players are being linked elsewhere, but at the same time we're happy to talk about the merits of players who are under contract at other clubs joining us. Of course it's natural to speculate, but equally is it necessary to call our own players every name under the Sun because they're linked to another club? Those same people who demand loyalty from Everton players seem happy to shed their loyalty to our players the moment a journalist has thrown some rune stones and come up with something involving a Goodison exit.
Man City are not giants of the Premier League... I don't even think any but their most delluded fans beleive that they actually are. Ambitious: Yes... Shit loads of cash: Yes... but most importantly, in Europe. OK, so it's not Champions League, but Europa League... and exactly the reason we lured Yakubu in the first place.
So The Yak looks set to be off to West Ham to be fed a larger pay packet, and if that happens, then good luck to him, thanks for the memories and hopefully he won't bundle one in off his moobs against us — of course, if he stays then great... and let's hope he bangs one in gainst them (well oiled athlete that he is!).
The same goes for Pienaar. If our official Player of the Sear doesn't receive the contract he feels and he does go off to ply his trade elsewhere, then it will be sad, as certainly he has been good for us. I hope he stays, but if not then I still don't understand this "we must get it sorted by June 12"... why? His value will not go down whilst at the World Cup, unless he gets seriously injured. On the other hand, his value may go up significantly. We signed him for next to nothing, so we'll be quids in either way.
We look likely to sign Beckford, but some people have already written off the tiny old-third-division striker... maybe we should just give the 6-ft 2-in pace merchant a go (subject to contract), Brett Angel in disguise he may turn out to be, but give the guy a chance.

43 Posted 31/05/2010 at 00:50:27
Of course you expect players to want to go to City at the moment, but you don't come out and say it, and you don't refer to them as a bigger club. That kind of disrespect towards a club like Everton cannot be tolerated.
Can you imagine Alex Ferguson putting up with that? Moyes should tell Heitinga that he's transfer listed and he can look forward to playing in the reserves on his return from the World Cup.
Decent player but easily replaceable.
And Johnny, if you see Joleon at the World Cup, ask him how it worked out for him. Oh, what's that?

"‘They’re a club with big ambitions and I have the door open for a big club." — Daily
“Manchester City have ambition, and I am open to the idea of joining a big club. I hear things said here, there and everywhere about a move for me, although there is nothing definite yet." — Goal.com
"City have ambitions and I am always looking to move to a bigger club. But I have a contract for four years, without any get-out clause in it, so I will fully focus myself on Everton. I am very happy at this club." — Skysports
Shame nobody took a dictaphone.
The Google translation of De Telegraaf article reads: "City has ambition and I am open to a big club. But I have a four year contract without limited lump and focus on me so Everton. I know particularly well to my liking."
Conclusive proof that he know well to his liking Man City.
45 Posted 31/05/2010 at 08:51:07
Because the Board, management and a significant section of our supporters accept mid-table mediocrity doesn't mean the players should; they are at the front line, they see day-to-day the relative paucity of the Everton setup.
Ken Bates was right...

I fully agree about the shamefully limited ambition of the Board and the Nil Satis Nisi Mediocritas element of our support... but all credit to Moyes for his recent statements, including "I just don't understand how can you expect to be happy with fourth"?
That'll do for me if he's now publicly advocating NSNO — a smack in the eye for the `realists'. Let's hear Doddy argue against what David said...

50 Posted 31/05/2010 at 13:44:07
He was being polite about City and not wanting to disrespect them but at the same time emphasising he has a 4-year contract at Everton without any escape clause and he is happy with that.
I have no concerns over Heitinga going nor his alleged statement.
Now Pienaar... that's a totally different matter... but enough has been said on other threads.
51 Posted 31/05/2010 at 14:45:11
52 Posted 31/05/2010 at 15:51:01
So Heitinga has compromised his relationship with the Everton faithful over non-existent interest from City, then...
53 Posted 31/05/2010 at 16:19:00
By the way, I saw Riquelme in Aldi in Smithdown Road with Robert Elstone — is he our next signing or does he like their selection of chilled meats?

55 Posted 31/05/2010 at 19:00:10
Johnny H's alleged comments merely confirm what some suspect, the club in it's present form is a sort of Premier Coventry City with history and expectations should be tailored accordingly until it changes.

Maybe people think we are living in the past but the only bigger clubs than us are the three who have also actually won more than us, clubs like City may be richer but they are richer than Barcelona too.
If there is one club who could benefit more from this burst bubble in football, it is us.

62 Posted 01/06/2010 at 13:22:18
1. We are certainly NOT a mid-table team — in which case, I do not see the need to justify my statement;
2. It is only for the last 20 years that we haven't been challenging regularly for honours — which only 3 teams have, and also I believe we will be back up there soon enough.
I can maybe see your point Charles but comparing us to Coventry is way OTT.

As a previous contributor said, we have a factual position of being the 4th most successful club in the country but in my opinion are not seriously acting like a club willing to protect or improve upon this. Very precarious situation, but I hope I'm wrong
64 Posted 01/06/2010 at 14:05:25
It seems to me that, as fans, we scrape the money together for season tickets and travel to games home and away, sometimes abroad, to support our team and every time you think that these players love playing for the club and you read all the comments on their relationship with fans etc.
Yet the first sign of a bigger cheque at another club and they'd walk over you to get it. Is this football now because I for one am getting fed up with it. I love Everton but a can't take much more of these mercenaries using the club and the fans to get their next signing-on fee. How much is enough? Does anyone become a footballer now because they love the game or is it only ever about greed? If it is, Why should I pay for it?
I believe wages should be capped, transfer budgets and fees should be capped and give the savings back to the fans so the average man can take his kids the match without paying £100 plus to do it. It would help bring back the atmospheres and get rid of the leeches.
