Cost of the New Kit

Just been on the official Everton website to order the new pink away kit for my 7-year-old daughter. Ordered the shirt with her name on it, her name consists of five letters. Put the number 7 on it for her age. Then the shorts and socks.

Total price £88:00.

With money being a tight can anyone suggest a cheaper way to obtain the kit.

And does anyone think the cost is taking the piss?

Scandalous. I would refuse to spend that on a shirt, trousers and socks for my wedding day, never mind a childs football kit. Must be a total of about £2 worth of material, and probably about 10p of labour.

I'd go for that store outside Tesco Metro in town.

Or look for the old pink charity shirt, if you can get it anywhere.

The cost is what it is, to get it cheaper you can either a) wait for someone to make a blag kit and buy it b) wait until someone puts it on e-bay and try and get it cheaper c) rob one or d) get a pink t-shirt from Ethel Austins and write Chang on it with a black marker and blag your daughter.

Fran, you don't have to buy it if you don't want to, nothing scandalous about the price, it has been roughly that for years now (hence the same kind of threads being posted each year).

Posters slate the board for their lack of money making schemes then go on to complain about the club making money on kits... see the irony there?

It is scandalous when you consider the sweatshop workers producing probably don't earn £88 in two months, the profits the club makes get chucked at ever increasing players salaries and the fans are arguably feeling the pinch from a recession that players seemingly think they are immine from (eh Mr Pienaar?). Plus, you are also paying to be a walking billboard for Chang. Surely you, the wearer, should be being paid?

It is a crazy world out there...

It is no more scandalous than the price of them last year and the year before. We all know how much kits costs.

Should the club reduce the prices then? ...imagine the wailings on here about lost revenue if they did.

The kid's kits don't have the sponsor on them, as it's an alcoholic beverage. Just saved yourself 50p-worth of marker pen.

Ive just bought the toddlers kit for my daughter, with name and number. Fity quid. Now I can afford to pay fifty quid for something that will no doubt fall apart in a couple of months, but some people cant.

No doubt you fit into the 'can afford it' category, so fuck everyone else eh Tony?

Doesn't matter if I can afford it or not, I will reiterate, if someone thinks it is scandalous don't buy it.

Dennis I did that with the black/pink away top, £8 - bargain.

Ciaran, what if they don't sell more units?, they have reduced their possible revenue, damned if you do damned if you don't.

No Everton top there yet but they update closer to the season. Shirts come from Tailand and they are perfect. I order all my European and international tops from it. Name prints, badges on sleeves, etc are the exact same as used on offical kits. No shit, I can highly recommend the quality of the shirts although I wouldn't buy in bulk as, if Customs open the box, they charge VAT on each shirt.

I haven't bought shorts and socks since the 80s. Just get the shirt and then generic shorts and sox (of the correct colour — white and white for home). About £7, simples!

Whatever you do, if you're gonna buy the kit, make the purchase directly from the club! This way, the club makes most of the profit, rather than someone else.

I've bought ALL my kits (and I must have about thirty of them now) from the Everton store at Goodison or Everton 2. Yes, the cost may be a bit steep, but it means Everton as a business make more money, so I don't mind.

ToffeeWebbers complain about nearly everything. I stopped buying the kits a few years ago when they went with Chang. I still have my one2one keeper shirt.

Anyway, all you posters, what would be a proper pricing structure?

I was met with the same problem on the day it was released, I can afford the kit but refuse to pay £88. Last year's kits for kids were £28, so I left Everton One and bought my 5-year-old the new Barca away kit (£33), the Brazil home kit (£30) and the new Holland home kit (£30). All three for £5 extra.

I will never buy another Everton kit at these prices. Fucking rip-off... And to all those people who say it's the going rate — bullshit . Even the RS only charge £35 for kids kits with name and number and money wise, they're worse off than us.

Kits cost what they cost, you're not paying for the material, you're paying for the 'brand name' and in particular you're supporting the revenue stream of your club. I buy kits very rarely, paid for the pink revolution cos, hey, that's my style, and picked up last season's blue home shirt for £8. I'd have bought the black and pink for £8 as well but the smallest size was XXL.

You might as well moan that Ferraris are ridiculously expensive, they're only a car. The £88 must include Premier League badges and name and number, none of which are necessary and in the case of the Premier League badge, detract from the product. Just grow up, make your own decisions and stop whingeing about everything.

It'll be on ebay in a few weeks for a tenner ... and you can still add numbers and a name for about a fiver. These are not fakes — just direct from Asian warehouses, the only way to buy decent and affordable footy gear. I got a home shirt with Fellaini and 25 on it at the start of last season for 15 quid. Bargain.

I just paid £8 for an away shirt and £30 for the DVD/Shirt set that was originally sold for £99.

I know it's tougher with kids but I don't mind being a season late!

Michael Parkes, don't know where you've been looking but Liverpool's online shop firstly wouldn't fill the order because they have a five letter max. However, a kid's away shirt with five letters and a single digit number would cost £46.94, compared to £43.99 for the Everton shirt with 7 letters and a single digit number, socks are £9.99 for both clubs and kids shorts are a pound cheaper from the shite at £15.99 as opposed to £16.99 for ours, so we are in fact a fraction cheaper.

It's even worse for us living in Ireland. To buy the new shirt with "Arteta 10" on the back costs £53.99 but in euros it works out at €80.99. However £53.99 should only work out at €65.22 at the current exchange rates — and that's before we pay any delivery charges. Still think I'll pick up the new home jersey though.

Steve Pugh; Liverpool have many retailers that sell the kit, unlike us. My brother is a red and bought the kit from JJB sports with my nephew's surname "Parkes" and the number 9 for £35. That's were the problem is – we are restricted to Everton One and Two and Everton Direct, so they are charging what they like because you cannot get it anywhere else.

£88.... a bargain and worth every euro. The more of us that pour our £88s into the coffers means that the more likely it is that we can buy some badge kissing mercenary who is looking for a springboard to a "bigger club".

Yes, it does take the piss. I think the club should bring in a scheme where, if you purchased the previous season's kit, you can trade it in for a new one with say 40 percent reduction.

And for info, LQS charge from £40 upwards just for a polo shirt. So the £50 or so it costs for a football shirt is not too much more than this. Of course, they are super-inflated prices (hence why they can be sold for next to nothing in end-of-season clearouts), but football is unable and unwilling to put a stop to this.

The answer — well, there's plenty above.

LQS t-shirts and shorts are in Sports Direct for as little as £3 each. That tells you all you need know about the brand and how shit it really is.
