West Ham obviously want Yak. West Ham have put all their players up for sale except Parker. So common sense says a part-exchange and some cash... How about £5 million and Yak for Cole???
Is Cole the type of striker we need? Would he work well with Saha (providing Moyesie gets adventerous and plays 4-4-2)?

No way I would rather keep Yakubu. Cole is well below the standard of what we already have.
What we need and what we will get are different unless Beckford or Silva prove to be unbelieveable finds and thats another 20 a season striker and those cost more than we can afford. Either that or we sign that boy Man U relied heavily on last season - OG !!!
Thought the Yak actually had a really good game for Nigeria there. Much more mobile and good link-up play. If he could get back to that sort of form for us then definitely worth keeping.
I seem to recall CC proclaiming himself to be at least the equal of Rooney about 5 years ago. I hope his (misplaced) arrogance has been replaced by a sense of realism if he ever plays for us.
Jamie - I agree, thought he was their best player. More importantly, so did David Moyes who was commentating on the radio. He didn't sound to me like a man who was thinking of selling.
Are you on drugs mate, why would we consider paying money for Carlton Cole whilst letting the Yak go? Yakubu is miles better than him, end of story.
I can't see Carlton Cole offering us anything different to Victor Anchibe to be honest. Built like a brick shit house but lacking the confidence or desire to truly dominate defenders.
The only player worth poaching from West Ham would be Parker but, knowing our luck, he'd get crocked almost immediately, and centre mid is the one position where we've already got sufficient cover.
I also see that today's gutter press claim Moyes has turned down £7m for the Yak and is holding out for a £10m bid. If Avram Grant is willing to pay anywhere near that amount then he's even more retarded than he looks and we should rip his hand off.

Yakubu had a decent game today without ever really threatening. Good link up play and its ashame the rest of the Nigeria team was so bad. He had no service what so ever so its hard to judge him playing for them.

Watched the Nigeria game and to be honest their keeper kept the scoreline down. Yakubu looks lighter but still didn't do a lot of running at pace. Funniest moment was when the other striker got a long ball through and instead of squaring it to the Yak took and extra touch and put it out for a goal kick and proceeded to scream obscenities at Yak for his own fuck up, priceless.
Messi was imperious, the amount of times he stayed on his feet when fouled should be a lesson to professionals like that twat Stevie Me Laa whose both feet suddenly turn penguin like outwards when a player goes near him.

Yak is a far better goalscorer than Cole. I really don't understand why fans are so desperate to see him go...

We need to keep the Yak. We've lacked a natural finisher for about a decade prior to his arrival and now people are thinking of letting him go after just coming back from a major injury! Wake up to yourselves!! See where he is in the scoring charts at the end of a full season and let him go next year if he's not done anything of note . He's a better finisher than most Premier League strikers around.
Cole is on £70k a week at West Ham, so would be too much for us.
The thing is Yakubu isn't "just coming back from a major injury". He's been back in the first team squad since October and is still nowhere near full fitness. To my mind he will never be back to what he was.
Yes I know it was a terrible, career threatening injury but he should be much, much further along the road to recovery than he is. Arteta, Jagielka and Anichebe all suffered serious injury but obviously worked their arses off to regain full fitness. Can the same be said for Yakubu? I'm not sure myself. He often appears lazy, obviously struggles to keep his weight down, shaves years off his real age, and has consistently lost interest after a couple of years at every club he's been at.
You're also conveniently forgetting the fact that he was playing shite and suffering a bit of a goal drought even prior to his injury. £8m/£9m and he'll be gone.

It is a problem we need to solve if we are going to challenge, but I don't think Cole is the answer.
Maybe Silva and/or Beckford will kick on. Maybe we can afford to sell Yak for £6m next January, because Silva ad Beckford are both providing goals. Then we can spend that money on Donovan?
