Does anyone else see the similarity between these two young footballers warming the bench, when it's obvious that there's lesser talent on the field? Rodwell will get fucked off just as Rooney did and will leave and rightly so. How can Rooney need protection at his age and not be in the Everton 11 each week, but play almost every game for United?
For fuck's sake Moyes. Please give the youth a chance and dismiss the old guard, before we lose another diamond.

David Moyes gives youngsters more of a chance than any other premiership managers, with the possible exceptions of Wenger and Ferguson. The problem is that Rodwell is still developing physically and too much game time, and even heavy training, can cause long term physical damage. Moyes is developing him for the long term, not just to fulfill the fantasies of some supporters.

Don't think so much the lack of game time will lose us Rodwell, more the lack of ambition.
When you're 2 games into a season and you're on the bench watching what we're watching, as one of England's rising stars you might question is the club a match for you.
Yeah, it will be Rooney all over again.

What the fuck does that mean? I'm talking about giving the boy some oppertunity to play football, how is that doom and gloom.
The side on the field at the end of the game was almost indentical to the starting 11 at Blackburn and I think if the boy is as good as everyone seems to think he is, he just might have made more of a difference than Osman.

Did anyone watch the Engerland game the other night with Rodwell earning the MOTM? What's that supposed to tell you about ability and this bullshit of wrapping him up in cotton wool. For fucks sake he's a professional athlete, these lads play football for a living thats less than 4.5 hours a week if they play three games which is the worst scenario plus training, I drive more than that a week to get to work and back! You'd think they were working 60 hour plus shifts down a coal mine to listen to some people.

Moyes' treatment of Rodwell is already bordering on the unforgiveable. It boils down to one thing; Moyes is gutless and negative. If he plays Rodwell he can't play Fellaini who cost £15 mill and Heitinga will have to play centre back but Moyes would have to drop Distin but tall and Moyes loves his big center backs ( and hard working but talentless huffer and puffers like Neville and Osman) Everton lack a good right midfielder and striker. Otherwise its a totally over rated squad. Oh yeah, a bold, imaginative manager would be nice too!

I am undecided if Moyes does give youth a chance when he has everyone fit.. The real reason youngsters have got a game in the past is more to do with the fact that we were down to the bare bones of players. I simply can not believe that Rodwell didnt see any action yesterday.. I dont understand it at all.. Capello was there and even he must have been scratching his head as to why he never got on. I will put money on him playing wednesday and running the game.

When he first came on the scene, I recall Moyes made a big issue of not wanting Rooney to be overplayed whilst still young. He constantly alluded to the risk of burnout. He would make comments along the lines of, ?we want Wayne Rooney to be still playing at twenty-eight.? It is interesting in the light of what is going on with Rooney now. I read something recently about Rooney?s World Cup performance being attributed to Rooney being overplayed.
In cricket, young fast bowlers are discouraged from trying to bowl too fast before they hit their early twenties. I wonder what a qualified medical specialist would say about footballers. At what age should they stop being wrapped in cotton wool? Does anyone know what current medical opinion is saying on this topic?
Certainly we seem to be seeing history repeating itself in the the handling of Rodwell. Rooney was clearly pissed off at being kept on the bench ? I wonder what Rodwell feels about it?

He then looked around for his options.
Nobody had moved, the rest were just watching.
He lost his rag and pointed to to where two runs could and should have been made.
I remember then thinking he's about 38 in his head and many of those 'experienced' players he's playing with, about 12 years old in theirs.

You play your best players.
We have a manager who is undoubtedly 'a good man'.
However there's (philosophically speaking) a Methodist/Presbyterian streak in him.
To be honest, he reminds me lot of Gordon Lee.
Ex defender, runs a tight ship, result is everything.
I'd love to know if Kroldrup smoked and spent his afternoons jumping minis.
(makes as much sense as 'he couldn't head the ball')

I've said it before on another thread, a Liverpool fan Jokingly i hope said pre season that Rodwell would not be used much this season by Moyes as Moyes loves to be the BIG man at the club and wants nobody bigger than him, said to expect a few good perfomances then Rodwell to be left out to save him, its happening already. Flying pre season but Osman gets preferred to him. Rodwell is like a young Gerrard, what ever position you play him he will become better than most in that position that we have anyway and already no matter where in midfield is a better option that Osman. Only Moyes doesnt do risks when there is a safer option

The thing is we all know we have no money and no investment on the horizon so unless we improve and win something / make the Champions League soon, one of two things will unfortunately happen:
1. Rodwell will want to leave because he wants to be playing at the top level
or

Our red neighbours play their players while they have them... Admitedly this mean that the likes of Fowler and Owen burn out, but the club who pays their wages there and then benefit from the service that the player is paid for. Did we benefit from sparing Rooney? Will Jack be playing for us at all the way through to 35?

Rooney went because the bottom line was he was too good for us and we couldnt afford not to sell him. He was almost a phenomena he had that much potential. I still see having the privelege to see him play live in a royal blue shirt when he was 16 as one of the highs of my life as a football fan, never mind Evertonian.
Rodwell is slightly different, not in talent necessarily, but in the position he plays - which to be honest is where....? Center mid, defensive mid, centre half, holding midfielder...?
The boy is developing still in all respects and why cant we give EFC credit for how they've brought him along rather than wanting instant gratification from what looks to be a great talent?
I, for one, trust the management, as frustrating as it may feel. Sometimes these things are worth the wait.

I think one important difference between the two is that Rodwell appears to be much more more level headed and mature than Rooney was in his Everton days. I don't think you will catch Rodwell buying into his own hype, becoming visibly frustrated with his team mates, losing his rag when substituted, getting a lip on when left on the bench, or banging a prostitute of pensionable age when pissed up and bored on a Tuesday night.

I am pretty sure that Moyes has dicsussed what he intends to do with Rodwell......anf funnily enough he signed a 5 year contract after the discussions. I wonder if you ask Rodwell if Moyes is "gutless and negative". what reaction you would get....I am guessing it wouldn't be a nice one.

Brendan, I did mean their younger players if that's what you're getting at. But other than the softly, softly (if it is just that given Fabregas' development) position taken by Wenger nursing Walcott along, how many players are treated like that by other teams?
I'm sure Baxter and Coleman will be grateful not to have arthritic ankles in their late thirties and while I'm sure being part of the setup on match day is an important part of their development actual game minutes (not just the final 5 that is) surely is too.

I?m fed up with people coming on here and slagging Moyes off for never playing Rooney. In his second (and final) season with us he started 31 games. How the fuck does that constitute ''Moyes never played Rooney''?
