So we finally have a signing in this window! He's a 17 year old centre half. On loan...
Although I'm sure the lad is a great prospect I fail to see any point behind this move. There's currently no mention of an option to buy and he's unlikely to challenge for a first team slot. Can anybody shed any light on this one?

Of particular concern is the comment about not hoofing it. I'm hopeful Jags will take him under his wing and have the lad hoofing in the first team reall soon!!
That's three promising young centre halves. Will one get a chance instead of Hibbo if the worst happens (injury). Does this mean Heitinga is on his bike to Barca (or insert club here).
The lads 17, 6ft 2 and was part of the Umbro Kit campaign with rooney beckham etc.
Apparently a very cultured centre back oozing class.
If its true would be great to pitch him in, fuck the ressies get him in, and tie this lad down, he's one for the future - and my god he's got one!
Maybe he is just coming to spend the time with us to gain some experience of the English game.
"The 17-year old Academy signing will train at Finch Farm whilst he is in the UK."
One could interpret that to mean he'll be using his time on Merseyside to get in front of the eyes of the England setup rather than play any meaningful part for us.
Of course, if he gets bitten by the "Everton bug" and he's good enough then he might get to stay long term.
I cant understand the point of loaning him unless he can help out the first team now?
Moyes needs to find a loan who can go straight into the first team and help (like Landon Donovan did last year) not waste time loaning a teenager who will sit in the reserves and then eventually return to Portugal.
Surely this loan deal is just temporary and a permanent move is just around the corner?
I cannot see the point unless it is hoped that he will be persuaded to sign a permanent deal for the future.
Remember Rodwell was a great prospect for centre back also and we have Duffy but it appears Moyes would sooner have Heitinga or Hibbert as the cover for Jags (or Distin).
Don't know why we made no bid for Wheater at the price -what a bargain Bolton got.
I doubt Eric's coming in as direct replacement or even potential cover for a first team player.
Looks like Moyes will use six months to run the rule over him and decide whether to splash any of his 50 pence Summer transfer kitty on him.
On the contrary strengthening the squad would be number one priority.
Yes, any hope of Europe has long gone thanks to all the draws but we have to start winning some games soon otherwise it's going to be a nervy end to the season which has already been somewhat of a disaster.
I know a thing or two about Portuguese football: Sporting are better known for developing good wingers (Nani, Figo, Ronaldo). The club where to look for centre-backs (not that we need one) is FC Porto, but they're a much tougher nut to crack when it comes to buying their players. They've made fortunes over the past 10 years (the latest being that bald man who scored against us on Sunday, but everyone remembers Ricardo Carvalho, whom they sold to Chelski for over £ 20 M back in 2004).
Does this mean Kenwright has found an investor ? Now ten bob was worth something back in the days of the boys pen.......
Moyes is always reluctant to give youth some time.....Rooney / Rodwell / etc...... look how long it took Coleman to work himself in.....now a 17 yr old centre back !? Will he even play ???/ Duffy can't even get in.....
The ONLY possible reason is....he's going to be cover etc. as we are going to sell either Jags or Johnny in this window.....
He is a Man U supporter and is under contract with Sporting until 2014.
Can only assume it's some sort of PR stunt or keeping relations sweet with Sporting.
Surely nothing bad can come of this.
There is no good news in this move for us whatsoever, except at best some publicity. But I'm not sure that I want publicity as a feeder club for a Portugeuese side.
Also, Man u, Arsenal and Spurs have all shown interest in the lad, so its not as if he's an unknown commodity.
They must be getting deperate to blow the trumpets over a kid that's never going to pull on an Everton shirt.
How fucking thick do they think supporters are.
It will be a a PR thing, nothing more but I don't know why we would have to know about it.
Where is that Aussie lad we bought with Tim....is he still with us?
Everton are just above the relegation zone and we sell Pienaar, one of our most important players and look likely to loan out Yakubu and Vaughan.
What is going on?
You couldn't blame Moyes for walking out given the nature of the constraints seemingly placed on him.
We will be in a crisis if we lose tomorrow.
Moutinho hasn't scored a single League goal for Porto all season, as pointed out above, but that's not really the point, as he's a good playmaker and has apparently been having a fine season.
