I just thought I?d bring up a very telling comment from Steven Pienaar that caught my eye today:
"The style of football is really important. I played with Rafa [van der Vaart] at Ajax and we played attacking football and I want to be in a team that plays attacking football that is exciting for the supporters to watch.?
It sounds like a player that was pretty fed up with Moyes? shall we say, less than cavalier approach to football. Another £15k+ a week doesn?t hurt too much either!

No, from what I read, it seemed to me that he said he chose to play for Spurs over Chelsea because they were more exciting and play more attacking football. It was more of a criticism for Chelsea not Everton.
Agreed Oliver - I'm surprised Pienaar didn't hang on another day or so for the call from Barcelona!!!!
I personally would take the results we've had against Spurs as opposed to the style of football Spurs have "played" against us to achieve poor and average results.

Total bullshit comment taken completely out of context. I'm no great defender of Moyes' strategy, but I read that comment the other day and it was in response to choosing Spurs over Chelsea. It was not related to Everton in any way. In fact it was a shot at Chelsea and specifically Ancelotti's tactics. Also the fact that he knew damn well he wasn't getting into the Chelsea team ahead of Lampard, Essien or Malouda.
Maybe he wants to make a good impression on his new fans.
I might add if he could score, then maybe our results wouldn't be so tight and the need to "hold on" to a result would require less defensive formations during games.

Well look on the bright side, at least he didn't say that he was a boyhood Spurs fan and it's always been his dream to play for them.

His attempt at a charm offensive at Spurs by putting the boot in on Chelsea is your typical footballer's innocence. Completely oblivious to what he's left behind and the obvious conclusion about Everton. It's true of course.

Yes, I read this and it was in reference to a comparison of Chelsea and Spurs. But don't let the truth get in the way of an opportunity to bash Moyes, FFS.
He went for money. Nothing more nothing less. Does anyone really think that if Chelsea had offered him more money than Spurs he would have still signed for Spurs even if he does thhink they play more attacking football?
For £200k a week he'd have gone to MK Dons and raved about their attacking football and potential.
Moyse deserves to get bashed, but in this case a comment taken completely out of perspective and then dubiously and wrongly tied to Everton.
My my. Aren't memories short? Piennar, whose career had stalled after an extended failure, was brought in as a back up. He settled, he thrived, he became a name at Everton. He will now return to the become the uninspiring mediocrity he was prior to Everton.

If we don't get any investment soon, I can't see the likes of Fellaini staying either - and more worryingly I can't blame them. We are going nowhere fast and until we get some investment we are always going to lose our better players.

Loved Harry's ideal postion for Pienaar, "right son, i reckon i can play you Left or right or centre" which roughly translated from football jargon to English is, "when Bale is injured or needs a rest, i'll play you left, when Lennon is injured or needs a rest i'll play you right and when Modric or Van Der Vaart are injured or need a rest i'll play you centre.
The real issue is Moyes isn't going to get the £3M to spend

This entire transfer was down to money. I would have been fine with the lad choosing Chelsea, much like we all were with Graveson choosing Real. He even said so himself that he is getting on (age) and wants the chance of silverware. When was the last time Tottingupthedebtam won anything?
Some might say he wanted to play with his ol' pals from Ajax/South Africa - if that were true he'd have stayed put with Ajax. The lad was fine in my book until he signed for a team without an odds-on chance for silverware. Tottenham won't win the league and he could have won it with Chelsea. They won't win the Champs League and when we can pick happy fucking harry's team apart then I don't see them winning any of the "lesser" cups anytime soon either.
We'll miss him in the short term but as a positive fan I'm confident Moyes' will find a way forward!

I reckon that every player wants to wýn trophys and that ýs what the Pýenar move ýs about.....thats why Rooney left too !! No player worth hýs salt wants to just do a job ýn a mýd table sýde wýthout money or ambýtýon....I stýll cannot belýeve that we are as skýnt as portrayed when almost every club has made some sort of transfer move...we are stagnatýng and so long as the present board conrol thýngs we wýll not ýmprove unless we are really lucky and unearth a few young stars.

To be fair to Steven I sort of understand why he choose Spurs, they look a team on the up they have a great squad of attacking players and look as though they will finish in the top 4 where as Chelsea are a team who seem to be faltering now, they have an old squad a manager who seems to be losing supporters by the week and look they are at the crossroads right now. I think I may have went for Spurs as well.

Please can we stop with the threads of, why did he say this ? or what did he mean by that ? It hasnt stopped (threads) sine he left. Who really cares what he thinks or does now as it has no effect on were we are currently or were we want to be in the future.
We've all said our thank you's or in some cases, kiss my arse and good riddance, depends on how you perceived him over the last 3 or so years up to his silent slippery exit. He has gone and we as a club need to look forward and stop dwelling on FORMER player's and the comments made by him or his new club via the media.

He was massively over-rated. An asset to the squad, for sure,but still over-rated.
Attacking midfielders are measured by goals and assists. His score on both of these is very low. Running around a lot is no substutute for either.
Sadly, Arteta has fallen into the same category i.e. very few goals and assists.
Billy and Gueye need to be given a proper run-out.
