Cahill into the Final

Before he was subbed at the 70-minute mark, Tim played an important part in three Australias goals. When he left the field, he immediately went down the tunnel and returned to the bench with a new fangled kind of ice pack wrapped around his left knee.

He seemed very cheerful and not in any kind of pain. Australia play Japan, one of the cup favourites, on Saturday night, Australia time.

I take this opportunity to wish all Blue Aussies specially Christine in flooded Queensland a happy Australia Day.

Stupid joke tournament. It should have been a one-off match between these two anyway and saved everyone a lot of time. Why are Australia even in the Asia Cup anyway?

English arrogance again!!! The people of Asia have as much if not more pride in their football sides as Europeans so why shouldn't they have an Asian Cup?? I'm sure if you asked those playing for Australia and the other nations involved they wouldn't be dismissing it as pointless.

You are bang wrong in your assessment, James #1. Give this tournament the credit it deserves!

In actuality, it's a VERY VERY stupid joke tournament. and not a very funny joke. More the sort of joke that's an irritating waste of everybody's time.

At least one of our players will have a chance of getting some silverware this season. Go the Socceroos!!!

Player by the name of Matt McKay looks like a real player and hopefully Timmy's putting a good word in for him with our hierarchy. Not sure if paying him in Monopoly money to play for us will work though. He seems switched on.

Steve #5, Putting aside the ignorant comments of James #1, and Jimmy #4, I agree with your assessment of Matt McKay who leaves the likes of Osman for dead.

I would be very surprised if other clubs have not already tapped him up. That would be a shame, specially as Everton were down here in the pre-season and should have been scouring for local talent while here.

We would just have to get him stuck into the weights to put up with the rigours of the EPL and he's ready made.

Come to think of it, Osman's been getting away with avoiding the gym at Finch Farm for years so Matty's good to go!!!!

Matt McKay is Premier League standard like I am. He's looked good in this tournament, but bear in mind the standard of competition. It's Second Division at best.

I am also a Brisbane Roar fan (on the side that is) so I see Matt McKay play often and although he isn't Premier League standard, his work rate is incredible. On average he runs 16km in every game, is never substituted, and he is the kind of player that makes all the useless Brazilian strikers appear acceptable.

Now what value this comment is I hear you ask? I believe if you drop a player like this into the squad and show up those lazy useless fuckers like Anichebe, Bily, Saha, Vaughan et al, the gaffer might see them for what they are worth and sell them on to some other gullible cash-strapped team.

Matt McKay could definitely hack it. He's over and above Osman! He is currently keeping Blackburn stalwart Emerton out of the starting 11. Would be a quality squad player at worst. Let's hope Timmy is in Moyes ear. Could be a no lose signing.

Also the Asian Cup is not a joke at all, every nation there is competing full of pride. Apart from the more obvious Japan, Australia & South Korea, there is also China, Iran and Iraq (who won the previous tournament).

This tournament is at a bad time for us but good look to Tim and the Aussies in the final. It might make the Australian nation feel a bit better after the thrashing we gave them in the Ashes!
