Carling Cup Final

So glad Arsenal failed in such desperate circumstances. Perfect karma for that shit from Fabregas. And Wenger, wonderful manager that he is, was such a lying two-faced shithouse over that incident. I couldn't be more happy for him! Well done, Birmingham. I never usually bother with the Carling Cup but Great Match...

I have to admit that defensive error at the death for the winner was hilarious as was the commentary about Arsenal stroking it about really nicely with no finish... now where have we heard or seen that this season?
A definite case of "what might have been" for us. Brentford did us in the third round on penalties, and then went out in the following round to... Birmingham... on penalties! Birmingham then beat Villa in a home tie in the quarters, West Ham in the semis, and rode their luck to win today. When your name's on the Cup....
When your name's on it, you seem to get the breaks (see 1995). Having said that, I think Brum played a good game today, but in the end it came down to the fact that the Gooners couldn't defend to save their lives; worrying links last year around Jagielka may well re-surface........
Because Arsenal will qualify for the Champions League, a Birmingham win means one less Europa League place based on Premier League finish.
Fair play and congrats to Birmingham. They basically did everything we should have done after taking a lead and then going level before half time; they dug-in, made positive substitutions when there was time to make a difference, and got their luck. Hopefully we can rectify that this year, starting Tuesday.
The positive spin on this Birmingham win today may be that we will tonk them when they come to Goodison on Wednesday week. Teams often do have a dip in form after momentous Cup triumphs, so three points for us will do nicely.
Yes, they do now take up a Europa League place (incidentally, looking at the age of their players, will they book their trips abroad through Saga ?), but after Newcastle away, this upcoming Birmingham game is the first of three successive winnable home League games. We should therefore be aiming to catch Liverpool in 6th place, and then who knows.
I'm enjoying the fact that a team other than the Fab 4/5 have won silverware. I'm delighted for Birmingham and the icing on the cake is the other lot got well and properly stuffed by West Ham. Glass half-full? Mine is almost overflowing.
Very happy for Birmingham. Can't stand Wenger and his 'I didn't see it' bollocks.
Lads, a great final, but the icing on the cake was the post match chat. Did you notice Paul Merson's face. It was like alchohol had just been uninvented.
Priceless..
Ahh, nice touch Michael. I was just about to cut and paste !
Well done to Birmingham. I just wished that was us. You don't need to shell out millions of pounds. Zigic - £6M? Martins on loan?.
I can't help but thinking 7 minutes from the end of that was Moyes he would have shut up shop and put an extra defender and settled for ET, just shows what a little bravery and boldness can do when your not chasing a game.
Yep, always happy to see any the Sky darlings get their medicine.
I am starting to believe the gap is definately closing a little. None of the usual suspects have that aura of invincibility anymore. Liverpool are so average just now.
Maybe Blackpool & Holloway have shown the way this season, don't try and defend for ninety minutes and you can beat the money men !!
Just put my winnings from Brum on Athletico, might be able to stay off tomorrow.
I'm happy with the result, very happy, a trophy going to a non-top four club.
Sorry not Madrid - Bilbao - Had a few.
Spot on Kunal.
Our Manager wouldnt have thrown on another forward when under the cosh with a few minutes left.He would have put a Defender on and played for extra time . Fortune favours the brave. If you cut Moyes open the word caution would be riven through him. Thats why he will Never win us a trophy.
And a big well done to the Hammers too!
Michael K - couldn't agree more. For once...
Well played Brum, a very positive attacking display and they were deserved winners. Would we have won against the Arsenal today?
Have Birmingham qualified for the Europa Cup? And, if so, does only the 5 & 6th places in league now qualify?
Aye, damn pleased for Brum. I have a lot of time for them and their fans as they take a lot of shit off ungracious fans of their city neighbours for being 'inferior'. Think we all know how that goes. And of course, good to see the much vaunted media darlings kicked in the nuts.
Who cares on the final. Liverpool were outplayed and out muscled by West Ham. We win our game in hand we're three points off them bastards and that's three points off Europe.
Two weeks back someone was moaning about three points off relegation... a funny, maddening season which could see smiles on our faces come May. Bring on the Lisbon teams!
Nick, The voice of reason, I thought I was on the wrong web site, what with all this non-Everton related stuff.
3 places available for England in the Europa League, one for the FA Cup winners, one for 5th place in the league and one for the League Cup winners.
Looks like we'll have to win the FA Cup to Qualify for Europe then!
Just to add, the FA Cup and whoever finishes 5th in the League go into the 4th Qualifying round, Birmingham as League Cup Winners start in the 3rd Qualifiying Round.
That would be an interesting talking to that Michael could give to himself :0)
After suffering the cheating, whinging and diving Arsenal at the Emirates earlier this month then they deserved to get beaten right at the death.
At least McLeish has achieved what Moyes has yet to achieve. Birmingham have (on paper) a lesser quality squad than us. They are the second team in a city, don't have a new stadium, have a low capacity and less history than us and yet attracted investment. I'm hoping that we can win the FA cup this year as Birmingham have just proved that it isn't all about the big 4 (or is that 6 now ?)
Did anyone notice that Osman was involved in the mix-up with the keeper! ha ha!
Any Evertonians just waking up from a coma seeing the headlines,
"Red-Haired Scottish Manager finally wins an English trophy".
Look on the bright side, at least you're alive!
Ian # 22,
Voice of reason my arse. Where that misbegotten lot are concerned reason does not come into it.
I was very pleased for the Brum yesterday. Nice to see some real fans get their turn to celebrate.
However, as soon as it was over, I couldn't help but think this would give SOME of us another stick to beat Moyes with!! You know what i mean....."so how EXACTLY can Brum win something and Moyes still hasn't after 9 years?? We have a better squad than Brum yet because of our negative ,dour.... blah, blah, blah!"
Hopefully this year will be the one where both cups are won by someone other than the "big clubs"! Hopefully.
Yes, one place fewer for the Europa League as Brum already takes one. However, looking from the other side, this may further motivate the manager and our players to going up the league table and/or win the FA Cup (or at least get into the final), rather than developing a psychology to "pip" into 7th place. This may result in a more positive/attacking strategy from our players... (IF the manager also thinks so!!)
To be honest, I used to have a lot of respect for Arsenal but this season they've turned into a bunch of arrogant, petulant little twerps ? their attitude influenced in no small measure by the attitiude of their increasingly self-important captain. Barry Ferguson should've dropped Jack Wilshere yesterday. IMO.
Does anyone know how long McCleish has been at Brum?
Lee Courtliff, looks like you could've got your wish!
Brian - he was appointed in Nov 2007, so just over 3 years.
Here we go.....!
Mike Green ? It wasn't a wish mate. Just inevitable.
