Season 2011-12
The Mail Bag
Summer Signings ?? No Chance!
For those like me who have searched all the usual sites NewsNow/ToffeeWeb for any glimpses of a new signing, well after flying back from Orlando this morning and bumping into David Moyes & Paul Jewell on the plane, I asked him what if any signings would be made:
DM: "At present, none; I can't buy when I haven't been given any money."
I asked if we are selling to buy, again he answered, "If I haven't had any bids how can I sell?"
Finally I asked is there any chance Paul Jewell would consider taking Anichebe for a £1.00 a week, he just started laughing.
As he said earlier in the summer, don't listen to speculation. I for one won't now... even though I will still need my daily fix of searching /hoping for some good news.

Of course most speculation is false, otherwise we and every other club would have signed around 100 players over the past 2-3 seasons and sold their entire squad 3 or 4 times over. It's not really a surprise. You should have reminded him though that in the past six months we have sold Pienaar, Vaughan and the Yobo transfer has been on going. Certainly a bid was made on Vaughan for us to have accepted it.

Arteta to City, then to Spain because his child is going blind;... Jagielka to Arsenal... Rodwell to Man Utd/City (even though he had just signed five-year contract!)... Pienaar to Spurs, City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea... Baines to Liverpool... Moyes to Liverpool/Aston Villa... Yakubu to West Ham... Saha to Turkey for 8 Million!...
Not one of the above happened. In a lot of cases it was stated "Will sign for" and "Fee agreed".
You could go through a list of all the players that apparently we were "about to sign" that never happened also.
A Man Utd supporting friend of mine told me that their magazine put together a list of 98 players linked with them last summer, and not one ended up at Old Trafford.
The fact is the British media don't know the meaning of truth or honesty.

Stephen 1#, Jewel just grinned in that smug way he does on Sky, with his jeans pulled up over his chest.
The observation I gained is that, despite the current bleak transfer budget, he genuinely loves the club and his integrity is beyond reproach, he just gets on with the job rightly or wrongly with the constraints Bill imposes.
As said in the responses above, I wanted to ask many questions but wanted to get through Customs with all me Duty Free.
I suppose time will tell but I like many others will wait in the hope we sign someone, even if it's just a brickie to finish the Park End wall they started knocking down.

Anyway, either both deals somehow fell through, or Moyes was having a lend. Either is possible I suppose, but I'm pretty sure he was taking the piss and just recycling a couple rumours from the papers.

Also, Moyes to me would be happy if there were no transfer window as he becomes the invisible man; yes, for the past 2 years there's been no money, but even when he had it he would procrastinate to such an extent that invariably our top target would end up at Spurs or Newcastle.
Our wage bill is massive, maybe not in the Chelsea or Sitteh sense, but in such as we have a lot of players on £40k plus but not the commercial turnover to be able to sustain it. As many other people on this website have said, we really don't know how many loans/mortgages we have on the go, we have no property assets left, only the players we put out on the pitch.
Maybe the best to hope for is that 2 or 3 of the kids such as Vellios, Barkley etc can step up... As BK would say they're like new signings! I hope like most of you do that we're proved wrong but I won't be holding my breath or watching this space either, Bill!

Looking at the BBC Football news site this morning there are quite a few rumours re Arsenal:
1. Real Madrid are also interested in Fabregas;
2. It's likely that Nasri will be on his way;
3. Man City look to be signing Clichy;
4. Arshavin could also be on his way;
5. Chelsea were mentioned as being interested in Wallcot;
6. Arsenal face competion in signing Cahill from Bolton.
Now I know that some of you will say either
a) So what, why should we be interested in events at Arsenal?
b) Wenger will quickly sign replacements.
Well if I was a Gooner I would be rather concerned that there is a possiblity that so many established players could be leaving. Even allowing for replacements arriving, it would still amount to a major "overhaul" by Wenger of his team in a very short space of time.
What's it got to do with Everton? Well there have been many articles/contributions to the mailbag so far this summer that have made direct reference to the lack of activity by Everton in the transfer market. As the lovely Gillian Anderson of the X-Files, might say ? "We are Not Alone."
As far as I can remember, the two busiest Close Seasons for Everton in terms of arrivals were the summers of 1981 and 1998 ? two new managers in Howard Kendall and Walter Smith. It seemed that hardly a week passed without news of an arrival or even two!!! How did we do in the seasons that followed?
Now I am not saying that we shouldn't strengthen the squad. I think we do need to add players ? just that we don't need to panic just yet. And if success was down to the number of transfers, then Sunderland would be in the Champions League.

So, where do you cop this stuff that takes you to believing you're with Moyes and Jewell discussing the team's fortunes?
31 Posted 04/07/2011 at 03:27:22
Moyes has built the team the way he can. I say, next season we put it in the net at a higher rate.
Top 4 is right there.

Christ remember a few weeks ago when someone was spouting all this bollocks about talking to Michael Ball, and he said new arrivals will be coming? Just shows how rotten to the core this club is and how fans take all this shit in. Yet again, Stoke and Bolton etc will outspend us.
