Booing Hibbert???
36 Comments: While watching the game to-night with about 20 mins remaining hibbert came on the pitch and nearly every touch he made was met with a chorus of boos from the fans. Why was this? We all know Tony isn't the best going forward but this really did puzzle me...

I thought they were shouting ' Shoot ' when he got the ball?
10 years too late, a piss poor right back who needs selling.
Both of the above crossed my mind and I hoped it was the latter. Usually the player is in the other team's half when "shoot" is shouted but I hope this was the case as my feelings were similar to Tom's thinking it was the former.
They were shouting shoot. Fans from other teams have been mistaking it for booing as well, obviously not aware of his scoring feats, or lack of.
Think you need to sort the volume out on your TVs, it was defo 'shoooot'!

Sorry to say like, but anyone who is an Evertonian knows that Tony Hibbert has not scored for Everton, and that the 'Hibbert scores we riot' statements have been going on for a while now.
Perhaps people should pay more attention to what is happening at Everton...

Jamie sort your telly out!! Whilst it's a stupid 'chant' I guess it's meant as a bit of a laugh. Gets a boring after a bit. Those thinking it's booing need to clean your ears out!!

I feel sorry for those who ARE booing, yet people think they're being ironic and' shouting 'Shooooot!'
I would find that very frustrating.

It seemed like booing on the TV, and it was a lot more noticeable because it was a pre-season friendly.
The decision to bring him on could be booed quite easily though, as it ended up with Phil Neville playing as an attacking wide player.
If this is how we conduct pre-season matches, it's no wonder we start every season pathetically. We played a good team, who kept the ball well, yet we offered nothing ourselves and the substitutions made no attempt to change the game. To create chances we need quality players in wide positions. Our inability to buy them is well documented, but we don't seem to have even tried to loan any or pick up any frees, so it seems that Moyes doesn't seem to recognise that this is our problem.
Last night our wide players were Coleman (full-back, though an attacking one so reasonable), Anichebe (centre forward who no matter what they say, doesn't look suited to the role), Barkley (central midfielder, looks an excellent prospect but disappeared when moved wide) and Phil Neville (defensive full back and an insult to anyone who paid money to get into the game to see him playing there).
These don't even represent our best options, as Osman, Bilyaletdinov, Gueye and even Baxter would all be more suited to the wide positions than all of the above except possibly Coleman, but Moyes didn't seem interested in using them. Were they available? The TV commentators suggested everyone was fit except Arteta which would suggest they are, so why weren't they used?
I hope I'm wrong, but on the evidence of pre-season there's absolutely nothing to suggest that we'll begin the season any differently to last year.

Shoot was being shouted at both Neville and Hibbo. I dont know why people kep going on about Villareall playing us off the park. Yes they had a lot of passes and yes they got into our half and to the box quite a lot. But did they have as many chances on goal as we did. ??
Some people need to get the game more often, this has been going on for ages with Hibbert and Neville , its SHOOOOT, if there is one lad we would not boo even if he was shite and that's Hibbert.

There was a good crowd on last night, why don't we sing: "Show us the money!" We all know that the club is going backwards.
I was sat in the Lower Gwaldys and we were all shouting shoot!! as when Hibbo scores we will bloody riot! Evertonians do not boo their own players. Only the RS and Mancs do that.

It was Shoot, i wish it would stop though, its not funny anymore especially when the ball is in our own half.
I think our two right backs are the worst in the league.
Hibbert is extremely poor at getting forward and crossing, inter play with Coleman, shots on target, no pace, getting the ball off the opposition or closing them down,giving corners away, poor distribution and defending at corners.
Neville is extremely poor at all the above, as well as, giving free kicks in dangerous positions and talking drivel to the media.

Why don't the dickheads who shout "Shooooooooooot!" give it a fuckin rest now? Yes, Hibbo's not the best player, which we all know, but do you think this is doing the lad's confidence any good hearing idiots shout "Shoooot!" when he's 40 yards from goal?

Fuck me, it's called humour and I am pretty sure Hibbert sees the funny side himself, especially as he recently spoke to the media about his lack of goals and how he nearly scored once against the shite. Maybe we should all shout "Win a tackle and pass the ball forward in an orderly fashion!"

i remember being at an Everton vs Blackburn game in 94 when everytime Nev Southall collected the ball we all shouted SHOOT!!, we got hammered 0 - 3

I know the "Shoot!" chant always ring out when Hibbert has the ball, but on TV it really did sound like booing.

Ashamed to be an Evertonian tonight.
What were those prats thinking, booing Hibbert? It was practically the loudest noise made in the old lady all evening - even more than was given to their diabolical number 5 Machena who delivered what could easily have been a career-ending challenge on Coleman.
He is our player you plums!
You might not like him getting picked but that is hardly his fault is it? Maybe you think booing him will somehow raise his game and his spirit? Twonks.
Maybe you think the rest of the team, who are largely friendly with Hibbo, will feel more like playing for the shirt after he has been given that sort of the treatment.
For God's sake, get a life, And if you can't get a life, get a gag!
