Rupert's Tower

I have a small question which has bugged me for many years: When did the club, chairman, whoever change the club badge?
When I wore Everton kits in the 70s and 80s the badge was like the one on the ToffeeWeb logo, i.e. sloping at the bottom from left to right. Now it is symmetrical at the bottom.
The reason why I ask is because I believe it was around the 1994-95 season and we ain?t won bugger all since.
As footballers, managers and supporters are a suspicious lot, I can?t look at the badge without feeling it just isn?t right. I know it is such a minor point but it really does bug me as I see the badge nearly every bloody day.

Mark,
You may have a point, though the early 90's was also the period that some clubs got a grip of the commercial reality of the premier league "business" whilst phil carter et al were busy inspecting their own navels.
Perhaps if you can remove the offending corner, it will take us back to 1994!
Well spotted Mark, never noticed that before. Must asmit I was a bit confused at first, but went to
this website to finally understand your questioning it.....
Looking at the "Keijan" shirt, that badge tower is symmetrical.
Maybe we should ask Dr David France - he's bound to know when, why and by whom.
I am sure that someone, somewhere, is working "24x7" to rectify it...
Check out these links Mark

http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Everton/Everton-change-kits.html
Shows the evolution of the kit throughout the clubs history including the change kits, if you zoom in you can see the badges.
Some real corkers in there.
Quite right Jeremy#3 and there's money that's been ringfenced to rectify it
The new badge is like a new signing for us.
The Tower logo seems to swap between depicting, and otherwise, the steps going around the base
As I'm sure you'll know, the replica medals show the Liver bird and the red rose of Lancashire
I'm sure I've seen an Everton shirt of the 1880s with the bird and the rose on the badge
If the club had any commercial expertise, they should consider the black shirt with the ruby sash for our next anniversary in 2013
It's probably to do with health and safety. Slopes and all that - you could lose your footing.
Our captain will shortly announce that everyone is happy with it...
Maybe that is the new direction Everton are going in - left to right, downwards!
Bring back the Liver bird, we had it first anyway!
Anthony Manning:
We're called Everton FC, not the Pier Head. The Tower must stay.
Mr Broderick, are you drunk? They used to lock up drunks in the tower which by the sounds of it is the best place for you son. THE BIRD IS BLUE.
It doesn't matter how shitty your day is, Toffeweb always takes your mind of things and brings a smile to your face - very good lads.
As for the OP, funny how the little things go unnoticed...
Anthony Manning, wash your mouth out with soap son. I think you should be locked up for wanting the Liver Birds on our shirt. We wore red at the end if the 1800s - shall we now start playing in red?
P.s. Just having a guinness. Santé!
Danny boy how about a compromise? The bird perched on top of the tower. Feel like a Guinness myself now!!
Manning,go and have a Guinness and leave our badge alone! It's the only thing we've got which doesn't need an overhaul!
I'd like the badge simplified to just the tower and laurel leaves, with EFC above. Lose the latin motto and put a gold star in it's place with a 9 on it (denoting our titles).
Anthony and Gareth - if you did do that it would be symbolic of LFC being above, sitting on top of Everton. We'd get slaughtered.
Leave it alone, LFC have claimed the Liver Bird as their crest and so be it. Our Job is to make the Tower as well recognised around the world as a footballing symbol, which I think is half the reason Evertonians talk about reclaiming it. Its a nonsense.
Next thing we'll want our No.7's to be our greatest players, not our No.9's.
I have noticed it, and have noticed a lot of various changes and minor differences over the years.
I like it as is, but also liked it before. If it symbolises Everton, then I like it. The Liver bird can come back for all I care, it doesn't belong to the RS, but I wouldn't be bothered either way.
Would love to see the black watch kit return, probably as an away strip, complete with collar and red sash. Pretty much the only way i would ever accept the colour red being present on our kit.
Love that 1958 away strip (another one that PISSES all over that disgusting, putrid, pink abomination and would no doubt have outsold it 10/1)
Michael (18), not sure if you're kidding or not but I DO think we (and the others) should have a gold embroidered 'FM' to denote Founder Member. I mean if 'others' can put little gold stars etc on their shirts denoting their achievements (which, let's be honest, is just a kind of 'In your face' thing) why can't we have something that says "You wouldn't be here if it wasn't for us you bastard mongrel cunts". Only...subtle like.
I have it from a source inside the boardroom that we had to sell that corner of Rupert's tower to repay the banks. We shouldn't worry though - Blue Bill is going to sell the whole tower and lease it back immediately to free up funds for Moyes. The money is ring-fenced!
Alan Humphreys (#13) - you mention how little things often go un-noticed. Too true! Recall many years ago was in the away end one shitty evening in Blackburn (aren't they always?) during the "Salmon Pink Striped" era, and my mate noticed on the lad next to us that the clubs motto was mis-spelt - "Optinum". I inspected it, sure enough it was. Word quickly spread and this poor kid was having his left tit inspected by all around.
Eventually we got back to the footy, and saw Cottee (2) and Warzycha score to reply to too Mary Poppins penalties and give us a 3-2 away win.
The reason why I ask is because I believe it was around the 1994-95 season and we ain?t won bugger all since.
Thats right its the badges fault!
Matt Traynor, I remember going to that game as a young lad, one of my first aways without my Dad.
Best bit of the whole evening, was seeing a completely bladdered Evertonian outside, walk into a police horse, wobble back, then clasp both sides of the horses face, put his face right in Shergars mush, and say "Shorry Lad!".
He got nicked shortly after.
Blaming the changing of the badge design for our lack of success is plain silly. It definitely all went downhill from the moment Evertonians stopped wearing the vertically striped university-style scarves...
The FM on the shirt is a great idea Eugene and thats something the shite could never pinch from us but i would love to see the bird incorporated onto the present badge too, it represents the city and we did use it first.
What annoys me is having "Everton" under the badge.
Of course it's fucking Everton!
Anybody who doesn't know it's Everton doesn't know anything about football.
Because we are one of the very few who were founder members of BOTH the Football League AND the Premier League, we will need TWO indicators.
It could be FMFL on one side, or arm and FMPL on t'other.
i got out an old NEC replica from about 1990 last night and last seasons strip and to me the badges seemed indentical, except of course back then the club name was not on the shirt but the emblems were essentially the same, although I'm sure in thinking there was an away version sometime in the late 1990s were the badge did seem different, got too big for it and had to give it away I'm afraid but sure about that.
