Mustafi Gone

 27 Comments: First  |  Last

Just heard that Shkodran Mustafi is joining Sampdoria on a free transfer.

Is this because:

1. Another player removed from the wage bill to reduce costs as we are strapped for cash?

2. Another young player leaving the club without getting a chance?

I can understand while Donnelly went to Swansea recently.

How many young players have left the club in the last ten years and have gone on to be Prem quality?

Are those really the only two possibilities?

Maybe he was in the last year of his contract and the management decided he wasn't good enough to make it at Everton?

Could it be that? Could it possibly be that simple??

Declan,

Seriously, if you're going to make the charge then please do list all the young players who didn't get a chance here that have left to become class players. Please do.

I don't know why we ever signed him if Moyes never had any intention of playing him.

Declan - perhaps it is because very, very few "promising" youngsters are able to make that step up to the first team.

They look great in the youth/reserve teams but then can't quite make it and end up scraping a living wherever they can.

For example, remember how pissed off we were when Fulham pinched Sean Doherty from us a few years back ?

You could name 4 players that have been let go by a club and gone on to be a success at any club in the PL. Can we not just trust the people that see him in training every day that the kid wasn't good enough to get another contract and make it in to the first team?

Ste, Jags never joined us but went to Sheff Utd at 15, Dunne was sold for £3m and Baines and Barton only trained with the club for a short period in the way that Jags did.

Just saying...

Was too small to make it at centre half in my opinion. Italian league might suit him better

Too small, besides we need to clean up the youth team as some players have been here way too long and not shown anything at all.
We can do even better in slashing the wage bill if Saha and Neville is let go too.
Then we can afford some good free transfers come july.

I think it is always a dissapointment when a young lad leaves after being touted as a potential for the future. Even more so now our finances have been stretched so far, losing another prospect is like "not having a new signing" which is always a bad thing for us blues.

We don't seem to have much in reserve at the centre of defence. Distin is getting older as is Neville. Heitinga and Jagielka are error prone these days. Hard to comprehend why we fail to keep some players. Remember the debacle when Hibbert had to play centre back. What a farce.

We got £10 million for Mikel so surely some of it is available to get some quality in soon.

I want to see Donovan,Fellaini,Rodwell and Drenthe as the midfiled with 2 real forwards not Osman or Cahill who just don't cut it anymore at the high level.

Rooney, Gerrard, Carragher were Everton youth players that left and did OK in the Prem. Ruddy also.

To those asking which youngsters left to play at Premier League quality then one word: Yakubu. He left us aged 20 and now he's banging them in!

Richard Dunne, Gavin McCann, Michael Ball, Wayne Rooney are the only four out of about 100 which have gone on to play at Premier League level I can detect from the transfers from 1990. On all, with the exception of Gavin McCann, we made what was broadly considered decent money.

Whether they go on to make it or not, they never get a chance to prove it here and their confidence must take a knock. Jutkewitz has been banging them in at Coventry and who knows, he may have fitted in here like he did at Motherwell so if he buys them, why not try them. BTW, what's happened to Baxter, is he still at Tranmere or injured?

Chris #5 ? managers buy players all the time at young ages based on the potential at that stage of their development. Look at SAF at Man Utd ? in the academy world, Man Utd do this all the time and not all these are bought to play. If the lad hasn't progressed, what's the issue? As Ernie says, are we really complaining about this?

I can understand why people are suspicious of the club's motives for letting players go-is it to reduce the wags bill or was he not up to the rigours of the EPL,

Exhibit 'A' is the total lack of transfer activity from the club, when we (allegedly) have some or all of the Arteta money to spend, and we've been crying out for a decent striker for the last 2-3 seasons.

Now you would have thought that the board/Moyes would have all the ducks in a row and hit the ground running as soon as the window opened, instead silence... and that's a sound we're becoming accustomed to.

Well if Sampdoria want him, then there must be something they've spotted to take him to Italy. Oh sorry I forgot, our great manager knows when to let players go: Yakubu, Beckford, Arteta, AJ, Pienaar etc.

Demba Ba has been scoring for fun... the only way to stop him is to transfer him to Everton ? that will put a brake on his scoring!

Ernie #20 It is not just Mustafi is it?

We have shipped out around 12-15 players in the last 12 months, nothing wrong with that if you replace them... we are not replacing them though, are we?
