Every year we spend the summer fretting as as every Tom, Dick and (particularly) Harry is linked with Everton's standout performer/prospect.

We all know that matters beyond our control dictate that Everton have to sell if the right offer comes in however relegated clubs are in the same predicament with their cash cow abattoir bound.

The likely candidates for the drop are:

Wolves
Wigan
Blackburn
QPR
Bolton

Given three of those are local 'rivals' (pathetic isn't it), I would like to see us in for Jarvis, Moses, Hoilett, Barton (maybe), and the American Bolton midfielder whose name escapes me.

It is the Everton manager's key performance indicator, in my opinion, to sell our establlished players (one at a time hopefully) for big cash and then improve the team with the funds - more difficult than throwing money at it but possible nonetheless. Eg. We could lose Jags for £15m, put half in the bank and spend the rest on one of the above and have a better balanced squad as a result.

But who do we want to pick the bones of?

Haven't a chance of getting 15m for Jagielka.
Should have sold while his stock was high. I think him and Rodwell should be the ones shown the door if it comes down to sell to buy. It's vital we secure Pienaar over all else as he is integral to our play even if he is lacking a lot of the time in the final third. I think Moyes will pass on Drenthe/Strac so we need a RM and another forward as priorities.
Hoilett would be a class signing but can't see it as there will be bigger fish interested.
Moses/Rodellgha would be shrewd buys.
Not sure I would fancy taking anyone from Bolton or QPR.
Jarvis isn't the standard we should be looking at for me.

Drew - The American kid is Stuart Holden and a nice call-out by you. Didn't expect him being mentioned. He gets his fitness back, he'd be a great signing. Fearless, good defender/passer with pace.

Since so many of us Americans follow him, I can say it looks like Bolton's manager really wants to keep him. He attributes Holden going down as the key reason for their relegation worries.

Would fit right in with us, though, that's for sure.

Yakubu from Blackburn....but we should pay no more than £11.25m

If we are going to go for any American it should be Clint Dempsey. Think he has only a year left on his contract at Fulham and would be perfect playing off Jelavic

Holden is a great player. I remember watching him play for Houston Dynamo in MLS and hoping Everton would sign him. He is (or was) injured though so I'm not sure how he'll recover.

I'd take Jarvis as a squad player. I'd take Taraabt, Eagles, or Moses. All depends if we qualify for Europe and thus have funds available.

Seamus - If only. He'll definately cost money we don't have. It's too bad.

Better we work keeping Stevie and Drenthe (and Straq for me).

Ditto Dempsey. Direct replacement to our aging Cahill. Can Howard and Landon have a word with him?

The problem is Drew we always do our transfer dealings in the last hour of the last day of the transfer window.

James Stewart. Jags is still world class, Rodwell ain't.

Jags keeps Johnny on his toes.

In my mind, our concentration should be on keeping this squad together rather than raiding other clubs.

Pienaar signing is a must - I'm sure they must still owe us the bulk of the transfer fee from last year, so it would be a relatively low outlay.

Drenthe I believe is a free agent in the summer, although there may be a nominal fee because of his age.

Not sure about the situation regarding straq, but would defo want him signed up.

And thats it - keep a winning team together, that for the first time in a very long time has quality, age on its side and a depth of squad

Love Victor Moses and i'd definitely take Jarvis too. Sadly we might we without Drenthe next season so we'd need a replacement on the wing.

Dembele from Fulham would be perfect... and an out-&-out right winger... Scott Sinclair? I think he is out of contract in the summer too.

Victor Moses would be brillaint to get in! Then everyone would forget about Drenthe as Pienaar (Sky sources on Twitter) believed there is a fee agreed for him) and Baines would do their magic down the left and Moses would be awesome on the right with Pip/Hibbo/Coleman behind him!

Jarvis has not had a great second season at Wolves and looks poor in a very poor team so I wouldn't have him. Dempsey would be amazing behind Jelly but I fear he will be snapped up by a Top 5 team and for too much money!

Balotelli on loan from City next January. To be enrolled in the Royston R Drenthe school of 'stop being a naughty boy.'
