Song for Wembley

 35 Comments: First  |  Last

We are now agreed that Tim Cahill will start on Saturday. We know how much RS fans dislike/fear him. TC has a tremendous scoring record against them so why not give TC his own well earned song and irritate our neighbours even more? It goes like this:-

Waltzing Tim Cahill, waltzing Tim Cahill,
Who´ll come a waltzing Tim Cahill with me?
He came and he scored and he massacred the kopite hordes.
Who´ll come a waltzing Tim Cahill with me?

TC is due a goal or two, especially against them. Saturday is the day to break the record.

What was the original Everton song to Waltzing Matilda, circa 1970s?

Maybe Everton fans should start chanting..

"Merseyside, Merseyside, Merseyside"

at the end of minutes silence.?

This will negate some of the tension and off-set some of the "it's us against the world mentality" stoked up by Kenny.

We can then enjoy the game with the focus upon football and fair play?

The more relaxed we can commence the game the more likely our football can do the talking.

Maybe a few banners and friendly chants of......

"Dodgy Dodi!"
"Dodgy Dodi!"
"Dodgy Dodi!"

The obvious one, for Scousers who remember a good sing-song `round the joanna, is the old favourite

Now I might be wrong on this, but isn't 'Waltzing Matilda' parlance for lonely bushmen who erm... dry humped their kit bag?

'Who´ll come a waltzing Tim Cahill with me?
He came and he scored and he massacred the kopite hordes'.

Well I'm not, I hope you don't, and I hope he doesn't.

Phil, on my German interweb, known here as (shouts) 'ZE INTERVEB!', I just managed to get Eggheads on BBC 2.

One of the questions was "Who did Phil Neville move to after leaving Manchester United - Everton, Villa or Spurs?"

The gormless looking puddin' said "Umm..can't see him moving to London....or playing for a Liverpool club...I'll say Villa".

Sorry but I don't not pay my license fee to watch pretend swots get Phil Neville questions wrong.

I've a good mind to put my foot through the screen and send Neville the Bill!

David (938) it was a song for Duncan McKenzie, just his name sung over and over to the tune of Waltzing Matilda.

How about the "Follow The Jelavic Road" headline from one paper recently to the "Follow The Yellow Brick Road" tune.

Clive Thomas!! Off thread, but Evertonians of a certain age will appreciate the Shakespeare-esque attempt at dramatic irony in this news article.

I shudder to think that a certain disallowed goal was the first memory of Everton I have. Or was it my dad going mental at the Radio Rentals device in the corner of the room.

Dick, the last time we were in the semi's it was either on ESPN or Setanta. Should be able to scroll through the week and it will tell you.

How about Jonesie getting his first start for them in the semi?! Gotta get stuck into him for the duration. Also, how was he only yellow carded and not red carded?

Roman (148), agree entirely. Ref bottled giving a second red when the foul was identical to the one that resulted in the first red card!

Anyway, as for songs, if Cahill is playing, likely, how about:

"Timmy, Timmy, Timmy the blue kangaroo.....
Timmy, Timmy, Timmy a blue through and through"

to the tune of Skippy the bush kangaroo (if anyone is old enough to remember that!)

Dick, Setanta is showing it (if obviously you're on Foxtel). Unfortunately I'm out in the stick (so called holiday) during this weekend with minimal coverage... I cannot believe my luck, let alone picking the missus over Everton... Fuck!!

David Shaw - nope sorry they don't ring any bells. I remember the Duncan Mckenzie one well from the League Cup semi final against Bolton in 1977 (?) at Burnden Park. We were in a pub near the ground pre match, and that was the song of the evening, it just seemed to catch on that night.

Dick Fearon, like me, I believe you may be in Western Australia? If so, you will be able to see the game on ESPN thru Foxtel? The Everton Supporters Club WA have got a gathering at the Floreat Football Club, Floreat, Perth. Expecting a good crowd and young ones are quite welcome.

With regards to Saturday's minutes silence, surely 60 (not 59 or 61) seconds ain't too much too ask? We don't have to become part of the circus but we can do the name of EFC proud by showing our respect and, when the minute is over, thrash them both on and off the pitch.
