Everton linked with MLS defender

28/06/2012 | Comments (15)
Everton are mentioned again in connection with Houston Dynamo central defender, Geoff Cameron, whom the Club scouted recently according to reports.

The 26-year-old United States international could be available for as little as £500,000 and is also apparently being tracked by Stoke City.

Why are they trying to sign a new central defender, This is the third there have been rumours about since the end of the season. Is there someone on the way out? What about Shane Duffy? It must really make his day. Surely with Jags, Heitinga, Distin and Duffy we are well covered for central defenders. Concentrate on a right back and wingers would be my priority!

Agreed Tony..I don't like any of these rumours and if we end up signing a central defender, if I were Duffy I would hightail it out quickly...

Its easy. Naismith, Whittaker and Hoilett in on free's and Pienaar in for £2m (reduced after recent unwanted media attention)

Get that lot, shift Yobo and maybe another fringe player, keep the rest and we are looking good.

Why are we linked with defenders? We have enough already along with midfielders that can fill the gap if need-be.

It's not science ? we need Pienaar and Donovan, plus a striker.

Sounds good Sam but because of Hoiletts age and the fact that he was developed via Blackburn's youth system he would not come on a free, he would cost a development fee which would be set by a tribunal.

A striker, a striker!! And then Pienaar, ... And then, I don't really care.

I'm fairly sure we are currently trying to offload a terrible defender (yobo) and not sign up another one!

We still need to replace Arteta (we tried Royston last year and it didn't work) but I doubt we will see anything until we get closer to the end of the window.

I am quietly confident that Pienaar will be back in blue next season.

I think the Fellaini/Gibson partnership negates the need for an Arteta replacement, we just need to concentrate on 2 wingers and somebody to play behind Jelavic

That Gebre Selassie fella from Czech would have been a great (and cheap) signing but we were too slow and he just signed for Werder Bremen.

I agree with the above, the priorities must be:

1.Right Back
2. Wingers/Attacking or Creative Midfielders
3. A new Tim Cahill

Agreed Steve I thought Selassie was class.

I think we have the players to play a decent 4 2 3 1 formation. If we do that then we don't really need a winger in the classic sense. The likes of Pienaar (assuminghe comes), Osman, Barkley, Rodwell (hopefully not Cahill) could hopefully do a job as the 3 attacking midfielders behind Jella. Could do with one more (with extra class) and a back up for Jelavic and allow us to play 2 up top if needed, as I dont want us to rely on big vic if Jella gets injured. However, I cant see Moyes changing from his preferred 451 or 4411.

Def agree we need to get a decent pacey RB. Neville & Distin can provide cover for Baines at LB for antoher season.

Andrew, I know. No such thing as a free lunch anymore right? Still think we should go for him though!

Stoke is welcome to Cameron. I've seen him play for the US national team. He is glacially slow and would have no prayer of marking pacey strikers like Welbeck, Aguero or Cisse. Even Bent and Defoe would leave him in the dust.

Denis (352), how exactly are you employing those three players? I could go along with Barkley on the right and Osman in the middle, but really struggle to see Rodders as a left-sided attacking player. Considering we really need more goal-scorers (or at least goal-scoring opportunites) I can't help but feel your proposal lacks ambition as well as being a big gamble on potential, stalled potential and a decent squad player.
Jelavic will get loads more attention next season and if we don't have any other players really threatening we will be easy to neutralise (don't disregard Pienaar's impact after Christmas).
What about a few injuries during the season? We need to add quality players to the squad, especially attacking (preferably goal-scoring) but the defence could be added to as well if the price is right and the funds available.

A decent right back is essential if we are to progress and long overdue. We have enough CH's and we are well covered in midfield. A pacey right winger and a friend for the lonely Jellyfish wouldn't go amiss if our budget stretched that far
