I wouldn't be fussed about missing out on this player, but the fact that it suggests we are trying to pay £5 million on the 'never never' is very worrying, especially when an extra £30 million is coming by the way of TV revenue.

Strange as it seems, I'd like to see what RM can do with our current squad and academy players, rather than sign a 29 year old who is not heaps better than what we have.

I think I read somewhere that BK was saying not to expect much movement in the transfer market because RM was a big believer in developing players from the academy, so he was planning to use the fringe players and perhaps bring one or two in where we're really short of quality.

Not a fan of Naismith but how many times did Moyes play him in attack,one thing with Naismith if he gets a chance in front of goal he will score more than he will miss,playing the guy on the wing or midfield is a no brainier but put him alongside a striker more forward and you will see a better Naismith,just a shame Moyes didn't have the balls to play both Jelavic and Naismith as 2 strikers.

Whelan's a cheeky bugger isn't he? Everyone knows poor bill is skint and yet Whelan has no compassion for our beleaguered leader who's down to his last pennies. Ok, I know Whelan lost a leg during the boer war fighting for king and country but that doesn't give him a right to screw boys pen bill out of his hard earned cash.

Judging by Whelan (Everton's new unofficial Press Officer) we have made a bid of £5m that activates his release clause and he thinks Kone will choose us, so I think we need to get used to the prospect of Kone here next season!

I think he is a good player, strong and quick, with a good scoring record throughout his career (except a poor spell at Sevilla). I'm a bit concerned about spending so much on a 29 year old, but if he can score us 15-20 a season for the next few seasons it will look like a great investment!

He could be a good partner for Jelavic as he leads the line and will allow Jela to find space to attack. If they could form a succesful partnership and both start scoring on a regular basis we could be onto a good thing. I really hope Martinez is more willing to play two up front than Moyes was!

I agree Drew, that playing one up front especially at home against lower teams used to do my head in, Jelavic and Kone up front, Mirallas just behind them with Big Vic coming off the bench will do nicely for me.

It seems a little undignified that we seem to be a club that other clubs have to emphasis the "in cash" element of the deal. IMHO signing Kone shows a lack of ambition.

We have been linked to better names, and a club of our financial standing needs to take risks on young (relatively unproven) players.

Also, this signing would leave me with the impression that Martinez does not fully appreciate the degree of scarcity under which he will be expected to operate.
Try first to see if Martinez can get something out of Jelavic, and
Macmanaman would be a much better buy - and nice to have an Evertonian playing for the club.

Peter I think Steven Telford answered you perfectly, that long list of mediocrity you have given is history, Naismith is the present, but I'd also agree with Brian's point that playing him up front instead of out on the right might let us see a different Naismith, he works real hard and can finish, but his passing is well below premiership standard, it's like he panics when he has the ball and has the proverbial hot potato syndrome
