Dubious Wanyama link

Everton could step into the impasse between Southampton and Celtic over a £12m move for Victor Wanyama with a bid of their own according to Alan Nixon in the Sunday People.

The Saints looked to have secured the Kenyan but negotiations have reportedly broken down over the fees due to the 22 year-old's agent.

Nixon's report suggests that Roberto Martinez would need to sell before he could fund such a move.

File under "Sunday paper nonsense"...

If Fellaini leaves, I would love this to be true. I've seen loads of this lad for Celtic. £12M may seem cheap but this lad will be worth much more in years to come. Absolute powerhouse can't believe a player of his ability and class would leave a club as big as Celtic for Southampton.

Could be Roger. He's one hell of a player but his agent sounds a bit dodgy.
Hard to imagine BK forking out extra cash.

It seems we are being linked to every Victor on Planet Football, ie, Moses, now Wanyama! We already have our own Victor (Herman Munster)... Who next? The only Victor I want to see is Everton, at the end of every match!

I would have this all day:

Fella out for £23m – Wanyama in £13m.

Heitinga out for £1.5m – Alcaraz in £0m

Kone in for £5m

With P Nev, JH and Der Hammer gonel; bring the kids into first team – Barkley, Stones, Lundstram.

£6.5m to the bank...

Ridiculous, how are we supposed to compete with powerhouses such as Southampton and Cardiff? I mean, it's not as if both were in or close to administration in the last three years. You'd think we we finished in the top 6-7 and benefitted from the riches that brings.....

Good point! (Daniel Lawrence #103).

You omitted to mention the other powerhouse, Norwich (Fer and Redmond) not to mention that they are likely to get some more money in from the sale of John Ruddy — wait a minute wasn't he on Everton's books once? (I think he went for either free or peanuts.)

Hmmm agent screws up move for player? Who'da thunk it?

I wish the big artist management agencies like IMG, CAA etc. would wake up to the opportunity in football, and get rid of these vacuum salesman wannabes. They're involved with every other sport, surely football isn't the closed shop some would have us believe?

What do we want with another defensive midfielder? We have a first choice for that position in Gibbo already and we're not going to play with two on the pitch under Martinez. I couldn't see the interest in Fer for the same reason. Gibbo and Fellaini only play well together because Moyes told Fellaini to change his preferred game and get further up the pitch!

Fine have someone in as cover for Gibbo, given his treatment history, for a few mill tops... maybe N'Zonzi from Stoke... or just use Barkley in the role. If we're going to spend a bit on a midfielder though, to replace Felli, we already know who we need... Honda.

He'll be on the bench already Paul. Not saying its a good use of his skills just that he's there, can do the job and wouldn't cost any more... like Diame or N'Zonzi will.
Paul Andrews

That's the first time I have ever heard "defensive midfielder" and Barkley in the same sentence, Steve. Probably the last as well.
Steve Jones
119 Posted 07/07/2013 at 09:44:42
So you think we should spend £3.5M on Diame to sit on the bench, instead of using Barkley out of position on the odd occasion, or do you think Martinez will play two defensive mids in a 3-5-2 Paul?
Paul Andrews
120 Posted 07/07/2013 at 09:50:57
You have the same development ideas as the previous manager Steve.
Lets bring Barkley's development on by sitting him on the bench as defensive midfield cover?

I don't think he will play that formation by the way.

A long way to go before we even know who's deffo staying; it could be a mad summer this but, whatever happens, I still think we will have something exciting to look forward to come kick-off in August.
Steve Jones
122 Posted 07/07/2013 at 09:54:36
Where did I say he should sit on the bench as defensive mid cover Paul? I said he'll be on the bench anyway and he can do the job. Given the thin nature of the squad I don't think he'll be loaned out and I don't see him being trusted as our main centre midfield creative asset just yet. Irrelevant though, I guess, as the point under discussion here is a new defensive midfielder and whether we need an expensive one or not.
Jon Ferguson
123 Posted 07/07/2013 at 09:59:35
I think Martinez is more likely to play 4-3-3 initially, but even if he plays 3-5-2, in both those line ups he would use two deep lying midfielders. He likes them to come deep and take the ball off the midfielders and start the passing. In his last Wigan team he had McCarthy and McCarthur in those positions.

In the 4-3-3 (which I think he'll start our with) it allows the 3 up front and the no10 freedom to stay up further forward and the fullbacks to bomb on to join the attack late.

Phil Brown
124 Posted 07/07/2013 at 10:08:34
Steve # 122 Ross can't tackle to save his life and his positional discipline is poor. Why would you want to play our most creative player at defensive mid? Especially when he can't do the job.
Mat Smith
125 Posted 07/07/2013 at 10:11:17

Colin Glassar
126 Posted 07/07/2013 at 10:00:48
I'm getting slightly concerned about this summer. Where are Kone and Alcaraz? Neither get me excited but we've been linked to both players for weeks now, and one of them is even a freebie ffs!! Even one-legged Whelan said the Kone deal was done and dusted yet not a peep comes out of GP or FF.

is this a new policy on Everton's behalf or, is it true we don't have any money until A) a player is sold or, B) we have to wait until 01-08-13 for the Sky money is deposited in the bank?

Once again we will go on our pre-season tour without any new players to blend into the squad while everyone else is refreshing and strengthening their teams. Roberto, did you sign on to this or were you lied to? I think you need to start talking and explaining.

Mat Smith
127 Posted 07/07/2013 at 10:14:22

This would clearly only be an option if Fellaini goes, and by the time Arsenal, or whoever, pull their finger out and make the required bid Wanyama will already be signed up somewhere else.

This release clause makes planning very difficult. I hope there is part of the clause that says it expires at a certain point in each window so that if he does move on we have time to find a replacement. Roberto's nightmare must be losing Felli on deadline day and not having time to get a deal done for a replacement / all the suitable replacements have already done deals elsewhere!

I guess it would be best for the team if Fellaini either came out with a clear statement that he intends to spend the next season at Everton, or he issues a come and get me plea to trigger a contract war with his suitors. At least it would be sorted, one way or the other!

I don't even know why there was a clause put into Fellaini's contract. It just causes us trouble. His father must be aware that if a big enough bid came in BK would be hard pushed not to accept it. In future our negotiators either need to work harder to set the fee higher or have expiry dates written in.

Jon Ferguson

Fellaini's release clause expires on August 15th, to prevent him being sold last minute on transfer deadline day. I'm pretty certain it comes back in the January transfer window.

Steve Jones
134 Posted 07/07/2013 at 10:22:04
Paul,

I said use him 'in the role' in 113 not put him the bench specifically for that...and in 116 qualified that.

Phil, (124)

In the event Gibbo gets a knock and we need cover on the pitch. Not a great use of the lads skills, as I've already said, but cheaper than spending money on a second defensive mid... especially the £10M-odd that Wanyama would cost. Barkley has poor positional discipline you reckon? I've not seen that so much to be honest... he's quick and a powerful lad though... which can make up the shortfall.

Paul Andrews
135 Posted 07/07/2013 at 10:37:31
If that suits your point Steve, that's fine. But it's not what you said.

By the way, I don't consider Diame to be a defensive midfielder, I think he would be perfect in a 4-3-3.

Paul Gladwell
136 Posted 07/07/2013 at 10:40:58
Drew, it would seem Fellaini and his Dad have been trying to get a big move for the last three years, the trouble is it would appear no one has made a bid, maybe they realise he isn't as good as he thinks he is.

On his day he is unplayable, but after that great start last year he disappeared for two months and that's not good enough if you are paying big books, Leighton Baines on the other hand has given at least 8/10 every week for the past three years and some cheeky fucker thinks he can bid £12M for him.

Matt Traynor
137 Posted 07/07/2013 at 10:49:43
Jon #132, that expiration clause in Fellaini's contract relates to the minimum trigger fee. It does not prevent him being sold on deadline day, nor does it prevent him being sold for less than that clause fee!
Stewart Lowe
138 Posted 07/07/2013 at 10:29:10
I am slowly but gradually getting slightly frustrated at the lack of transfer activity at Goodison Park this transfer window.

Now I understand that there is just under one month to go until the end of this transfer window and I am not one to get carried away with all the drummed up hype and lies that link us to every player in the land. However, it is not difficult to work out that the earliest you bring your new players into the club, the longer they have had to understand what's required of them and as well as adequate time to galvanise themselves with team dynamics tactics.

It tears me apart to say it but Liverpool have got this spot on. Brendan Rodgers has brought in and agreed terms with 6 quality players before the transfer window opened, only for them to formally sign their contracts after the opening of the transfer window. This leaves the rest of us running around and scouring the globe for talent and bringing players in with minutes of this window to go, and we all know Everton is the perfect example of that scenario.

David Moyes had to endure the dithering Dave tag that was bestowed on him for dragging his heals and taking too long in the transfer market. With Martinez now at the helm I truly believed that this one aspect of football management and being too slow at signing new players might now have gone with Moyes to Manchester United.

I have a strong feeling that Moyes was no more a ditherer than Stephen Hawking is an Olympic shot putter, which would mean we have all got him wrong. A young eager and proactive Martinez aged just 39 and at a huge club like ours should already have an idea about who he would like to bring in to improve our squad, yet one month after he signed on the dotted line, nothing.

I now feel sympathy for both Moyes and Martinez, as it is now strikingly obvious that the dithering lie with the board and chairman at Everton. However, I fear the longer we go without actually making a few signings, the media might begin to unfairly re-label Martinez as Reluctant Roberto or Reserved Roberto??

Matt 137 - it prevents us having to sell him after that date or for less than the fee. That's a positive thing. If someone bid £30 million on transfer deadline day we'd probably accept but it is unlikely that would happen.

I can't see us accepting less than the trigger fee, we've already turned down one approach from Arsenal.

Fraser Auld
143 Posted 07/07/2013 at 11:12:17
Let Southampton have him.

Guy had a few good games in the champs league but he's nowhere near as good as Celtic fans and the media would have us believe.

As much as I'd like Bobby to get his finger out and sign some new players, I'd rather he makes sure he is signing the right players and if that takes a bit of time, so be it... don't want to see us wasting £12 mil on big numpties like Victor Wanyama just to keep us impatient fans happy.

Matt Traynor
144 Posted 07/07/2013 at 11:24:13
Jon #142, I wasn't aware that Arsenal had made an approach - all I'd seen was stuff in the press that Wenger didn't fancy him at the release fee.

If we don't have any sales prior, I wouldn't be surprised to see him sold on deadline day for less than the £23/24m release fee. It's part of the MO of the club. Like the Arteta "took a pay cut" line, a lot of fans will believe whatever spin is put on it.

Sad to say but we're due a big sale.

Jon Ferguson
145 Posted 07/07/2013 at 11:32:31
Matt - I was under the impression we'd had an approach from Arsenal and told them we wouldn't go below the release fee.

I agree that we are due a big sale and Felllaini is the obvious one. I think someone will come in for him at the release fee.

We need it as well to buy 2-3 players to bulk out the squad.

Mal Christopher

I think Fellaini is the back-up choice for a few top clubs. Not No 1 on their list but 2 or 3. He will be sold but not until the end of July or possibly late August. No team in the Premier League wants to let us have money until they have their targets in the bag.
Stuart Mitchell
148 Posted 07/07/2013 at 11:47:48
With a high chance of Fellaini going, Osman more of a squad player now and Gibson just plain average we are crying out for some CM players.

Wanyama next to Barkley would suit me, but so would Fer or Honda. Just do not want to see Osman Gibson in the middle anymore.

If we sign Gerard Deulofeu also that means Pienaar can play more in the middle also.

Ray Roche
149 Posted 07/07/2013 at 11:45:52
If Arsenal are really interested they will no doubt wait for any release clause to expire and then make a cheeky bid considerably lower than the reported £22M-£24M, in the full knowledge that this apology for a board and Chairman will sell because "We had no choice".

No club, especially one as frugal as Arsenal, will pay the asking price to Everton because all the world knows we're on the bones of our arse and are desperate to keep the banks at bay.

Ray Roche

I'm not sure those posts who criticise Martinez for being "dithering" as one post worries about; it happened all through Moyes's tenure and I don't see it being any different now. Martinez will have identified the players he wants, he will now have to wait while (a) BK prints the money and (b) our glorious CEO ties up the contract/s.
Stewart Lowe
154 Posted 07/07/2013 at 12:01:06
Let's face it guys, Everton have banked on Fellaini leaving and probably factored that into the transfer budget, which might be a reason we haven't signed anyone yet.

Kone looks the obvious choice to be the striker we badly require, but the club are probably waiting to see if Fellaini goes first, and that could be the difference between going for Kone or using the Fellaini sale to get a Negredo or Lewandowski budget striker. I do think the Russians, French and Germans are buying up all the quality talent that's about but, once that other options have dried up, I am sure Fellaini will eventually snapped up.

Steve.

Gibson is a great playmaker and midfield organiser but he is not Busquets, Alonso, Sweinsteiger, Ya Ya Toure or Paulinho. These guys do everything. He can't. Without the ball his legs don't take him to where he wants to go.

For this reason, I'd like a ball winner either with him or behind him. Heitinga was called upon to do this particular cover job several times toward the end of the season, and did it well.

In other words... To get the best out of Gibson, we need someone riding shotgun and it will be interesting to see how Martinez sorts it out.

Steve Jones
181 Posted 07/07/2013 at 13:42:01
Harold,

I'd agree Gibson doesnt have the legs he needs to be the complete player, but, he is usually in the right place at the right time when we lose possession. He is decent in the challenge and can pick, and complete, the pass to release an attacking move. That's why I'm saying we need a more attacking player alongside him... which seems to be your point as well?!

Could we do with replacing Gibbo with a more all-round player... yes... and Fer or Wanyama would be ideal for that... but they would be in place of Gibbo not alongside.

Paul and a few others reckon we'll play 4-3-3 which is fair as Martinez has played that system. I don't see how we fit Fellaini and Gibbo in to that system together though and, for the same reason, how we'd fit in Fer or Wanyama... unless we played very narrow in the middle. A system thats just not as flexible as the other systems Martinez favours.

Bottom line is that, as I said straight out, we have a first choice defensive midfielder already. We have areas on the pitch where we need investment. Not least a striker. Gibbo doesn't need replacement as a priority and if we want to put someone alongside him it needs to be Honda not Fer or Wanyama. Neither of those should, then, come at the expense of the more creative or goalscoring reinforcements we really need.

Mark Frere
185 Posted 07/07/2013 at 14:29:16
I disagree Gibson doesn't have the legs to become a complete midfielder, at the beginning of last season he looked slimmer and much more mobile.

The trouble is - Gibson has struggled with injuries, we haven't seen much of Gibson when he's been fully fit. Gibson was unable to unleash any of his famous power driver shots, because he was always at risk of injuring himself even more.

Paul Andrews
186 Posted 07/07/2013 at 14:37:34
If we could sign Diame for a relatively small fee and keep Fellaini, Gibson would not, in my opinion, make the starting 11.
Mark Frere
187 Posted 07/07/2013 at 14:41:01
Paul – Gibson has a much better range of passing then Fellaini or Diame.

Yes, Gibson won't be as much of a handful as Fellaini is without the ball, but with the ball Gibson is far superior to Fellaini.

I think a lot of you underestimate what a good player Gibson is when fully fit.

Harold Matthews

You have typed 'Gibson' eight times in two posts! Surely that has to be some kind of Gibson.

But seriously, he is a very good player and his use of the ball is miles better than anyone else at the club. Osman, Pienaar, Fellaini, even Mirallas, none of them can play a long range pass. I think that's an important factor - and will become even more so if we get the pacey Kone up front.

Ross Edwards

£12 million for Wanyama?

Has Bill asked Mickey Thomas to make some counterfeit money for him?

Jon Ferguson
191 Posted 07/07/2013 at 14:57:24
How many games have we lost with Gibson starting? Not many! His range of passing is amazing. Unlike most of our squad he passes first time more often than not, keeping the ball moving much quicker. Martinez will take advantage of that.

Also if we have some pace and running up front, they'll benefit from his through balls. He can put a food tackle in as well. He could defo do with being more mobile, but anyone who thinks he's shit has a limited knowledge of the game.

Clive Rogers

I also am coming to the conclusion there is something seriously wrong this year, ie, no money at all. Whelan had to insist on the £5M for Kone not being in installments, and now the silence is deafening.

I'm just waiting to hear that Baines signing a new contract is like buying a new player. Meanwhile Swansea, Cardiff and even Southampton are spending big.

What the hell is going on, Kenwright?

Mark Frere
199 Posted 07/07/2013 at 15:16:09

Pathetic.

People praise him because he has some great attributes not possessed by anyone else in our side.

Now put those toys back in your pram.

Do you think Man Utd would swap Carrick for Fellaini? I'd probably say that Fellaini is the better player...but he isn't going to dictate tempo like Carrick does for them or Gibson does for us.

If we had a more offensive midfielder with a good passing range then I'd happily let Fellaini sit deeper. The trouble is that right now we have a midfield that cant pass it further than 10 yards.

Your question is irrelevant, Paul. You know the answer to my question as well... which you are trying hard to avoid... despite the fact that it IS relevant as it is the situation we're in!
Paul Andrews

Okay, I will try to simplify it for you, as you are wriggling:
Who is the better player in the holding midfield position? Gibson or Fellaini?
Phil Sammon
233 Posted 07/07/2013 at 16:47:47
Paul

I get your point.

But surely it isn't as simple as that. The team is better when Gibson plays there.

Mark Frere
234 Posted 07/07/2013 at 16:44:49
Paul - A fully fit Gibson is better than Fellaini at playing the holding midfield role, his positional sense is superior to Fellaini's. MF is just the media darling and is inconsistent.

Fellaini never has had the discipline to play the holding role correctly. He doesn't even resemble a Claude Makelele in that respect.

Paul Andrews
235 Posted 07/07/2013 at 16:51:16
Phil, Don't get me wrong: I rate Gibson as a player.

My point at 194 that Fellaini is a far superior defensive midfielder than Gibson has developed into the debate. Who do you think is the better player?Regardless of what is beneficial to our current squad?

It is a simple question.

Paul Andrews
236 Posted 07/07/2013 at 16:56:20
Mark,

Maybe Wenger will come in for Gibson, as he is looking for a holding midfielder.

Ross Edwards

Phil, I'd only swap Fellaini for Van Persie...
Phil Sammon
238 Posted 07/07/2013 at 16:56:24
Paul, I cant answer that one because I just cant decide. We both know they have their qualities and also their limitations.

I'm not saying he's a better player, but I'd prefer Gibbo in DM, Fellaini CM and another more attacking central midfielder playing ahead of them both.

Paul Andrews
239 Posted 07/07/2013 at 17:02:29
Ok Phil. Thank you.

What formation would you be looking at with that in mind?

Mark Frere
240 Posted 07/07/2013 at 16:59:15
Paul - If Wenger would of seen a fully fit Gibson for the last 18 months, then i'm sure he would be very interested.

This is the point ive been trying to make - we have not seen the true worth of Gibson because he's been injured or been carrying a injury during games.

He's pretty damn impressive when carrying an injury, just imagine how good he will be if fully fit

Phil Sammon

Paul

That was assuming a 5-man midfield, 4-5-1 or 3-5-2.

If Fellaini could spray a ball like Gibbo then he would be world class in my opinion.

Mark,

You're obviously a big fan of Gibson. Good for you mate.

Mark, Arsene's knowledge of football has declined so much over his winless 9 years that he is after Gareth Barry.

Whoever thinks that Gareth Barry is a viable midfield option for a top club like Arsenal should not be in football management.

Gibson is an average centre midfielder.

He only appears to some to be this great player because for so many years we've had to make do with Osman, Cahill, Neville, Heitinga, two of whom are not midfielders, and the other two have serious deficiencies to play there.

Gibson is a good all-round player. He has a decent range of passing, is fairly mobile, tactically aware, big and strong enough to compete on ground and in the air and can tackle.

Fellaini has far more ability and potential, but I think mentally he needs to improve. Sometimes I think he starts believing the hype that surrounds him and strolls around the pitch, gets sloppy with his passing or lashes out. If he can sort himself out in the head and RM can motivate him we have a world class player on our hands.

That just about wraps it up. Thanks for giving your answers on who you consider the better defensive midfielder. Much appreciated.

Steve Jones,

Apologies mate.
I am wrapping the debate up and you have yet to give your answer on who is the better defensive midfielder.

Harold Matthews

Wayne (247). You're dead right. He is a centre midfielder.

Mark. What injury?

Jon. Yes, we know he reads the game and is passes the ball better than anyone else in the squad......but my gran is a better tackler.

Paul. Don't say I didn't warn you.

I am now disappearing before it all kicks off again.

Looks like Im late to the party on this one but Paul Gladwell #136 – well said.

For me... Gibson's a very decent midfielder, injuries are clearly the issue. He doesn't dazzle but does all the important things well and more important than anything else, whether it's him or the mix when he plays, we hardly ever lose, so that's good enough for me to be honest.

Mark Frere
280 Posted 07/07/2013 at 19:51:46
Harold Matthews, you're being very childish to say the least.

I think Baines is the most over rated LB in the PL, we will be lucky to get £5 million for him..... quick, I'd better go to another thread!

Do you honestly think the board will pay off £6.5M of Fellaini money to the bank? I'll bet if that happens the £6.5M (which they'll say went on agents fees and wages) will dry up and, come the next AGM, we're still £40M+ in debt.

Steve Jones
297 Posted 07/07/2013 at 22:27:31
Paul 264,

Fellaini's the better footballer but I don't know he's necessarily a better defensive midfielder. Certainly he's not a sufficiently better defensive mid that I'd spend £10M+ bringing him in to replace Gibbo when I need creativity and goals in the squad..

Harold Matthews
299 Posted 07/07/2013 at 22:25:45
Mark Frere. Fair point. Past experience dictated my actions. This guy is a no-go area.

In truth, I was off to a barbecue.

You didn't answer the question.

Mark Frere

Harold

What planet have you been living on? Gibson was injured and unavailable for sustained periods last season. It is common knowledge to nearly every Everton fan apart from yourself, that Gibson was playing with a thigh problem which affected his ability to perform at his best.

Do some research if you don't believe me.

Al Philby

I have seen three minutes of him on youtube. Looks pretty impressive. Just the kind of holding midfielder we need.
Harold Matthews
320 Posted 08/07/2013 at 00:05:18
When Moyes was asked about this issue he gave the interviewer a distainful look before muttering in an unconvincing manner,.. Quote... "The player says he has an injury. The player says he needs an operation."

The whole thing is a mystery. Lads on another thread could find no records of treatment. Media reports count for nothing.

Personally, I couldn't care less. This has turned into a very boring issue and best left with Martinez.

Harold Matthews
326 Posted 08/07/2013 at 01:21:36
Al Philby. You're so right. I've seen him on several occasions and never failed to be impressed.
The lad's got everything. Two good feet, pace, strength, ball control, fighting spirit and a quick football brain. At £12M he's a snip. If Fellaini is worth £24M, God knows what this lad is really worth.

I don't care about agent's fees or whatever. This lad is a gold-plated investment and, if we have to flog half the squad to get him, then we should do so... Now!

Jim Knightley
329 Posted 08/07/2013 at 01:56:20
Barkley as defensive midfield cover... I've heard some theories on here, but that's fantastic. He gives the ball away enough in an attacking position... might as well put Jelavic in a holding roll.

And Gibson isn't a defensive midfielder... he is a deep lying passer, but not a true tackler. Personally, if we are going on the offensive next season, I think we need a better tackler. Gibson is a very poor man's Xabi Alonso or Xavi... we need a Khedira or Busquets next to him.

Although, I'd prefer us to invest in an attacking/quick left winger, and then bring Pienaar/someone else into an AMC position and drop Fellaini back.

And Ross... when did Wenger say he was after Barry? or did you read it in the newspapers and assume it was true?

Harold Matthews

Jim Knightley. (329). Best post I've read all day.

At last. Someone who knows his football.

Paul Andrews
336 Posted 08/07/2013 at 06:39:08
Steve 297,

If you are not sure who is the better defensive midfielder between Fellaini and Gibson we are better leaving it at that.

Jim Knightley,
Re Barkley, spot on.Obvious but spot on nevertheless.

Re Gibson, again spot on.Similar to the Beckham role at PSG (without the same passing range) you could hardly describe Beckham as a defensive midfielder.

Re Barry, the day he plays in an Arsenal midfield,me and you will be lined up next to him.

Mark Frere
346 Posted 08/07/2013 at 09:52:44
Harold Matthews, Your right about one thing, this is getting very boring

Jim Knightley - If going to say: Gibson is a poor mans Alonso or Xavi, then can you also say Fellaini is a poor mans P . Viera, K. Toure and C. Makelele.

There's nothing wrong with being a poorer version of the exceptional talent mentioned above. I think Gibson is more mobile and a better tackler than lets say M. Carrick and T. Huddlestone.

Whats this thread all about....erm...yes....Wanyama-yes, 12 million is a lot to pay for a player that has looked good in the SPL, this is a league that actually made Naismith look good. Lets not forget Celtic are playing teams which are the equivalent of League 1 or 2 teams from our English league.

I'm sure there's better value for money in stronger leagues than the SPL

All I ever see on TW, Fellaini is touted to leave and someone that no one is sure will be any really good enough to fill Fellaini's boots in. Thank goodness that no one who submits these ideas about Fellaini will never decide who stays and who goes at Everton. Martinez will be thinking that Fellaini is central to his plans for next season. With just about 3 new faces to bolster what already here. That means that Baines and Fellaini are staying.
Harold Matthews
382 Posted 08/07/2013 at 12:48:12
Mark Frere... Wanyama was also outstanding against top teams in the Champions League.

Yes, I do understand the value for money issue, especially with our present financial state. In fact, I would be amazed if BK and his mates forked out the necessary cash.

The lad is my favourite player in British football and I would love to see him in an Everton shirt. That's all there is to it really.

We all have our dreams and that's mine.
