I'm a sucker for players who can beat people, I played when good players were those who could go past people - you ended up a defender otherwise.

From what I've seen (admittedly not a lot) I'd have him cos he can beat people you just can't have too many "footballers".

It's no coincidence internationally the best team has been Brazil and latterly Spain - there is no substitute for ability.

Barry (793), I agree with you that McGeady can beat people however once he has beaten a player he then does it again and again and again until he eventually looses the ball. There is no end product with this guy!

Nobody seems to rate him. I suspect there's a very good reason he's been playing in Russia and nobody in England has ever taken a punt on him.

Beat me too it James. I disagree though, in that the lad has ability, can go past people and is always liable to be taken out by a lump of a defender. I think he has been viewed as a bit of a luxury, in the past but he's older now and as Barry said earlier in the thread, I never tire of seeing an Everton player ghost past someone. Might be worth a shout, depends how much?

Larry, Martinez has polished rough diamonds before - Nzogbia and Mcmanaman at their respective clubs (Newcastle and Everton) where going nowhere.

If the lad has ability I reckon Martinez could be the man to develop it fully.

He was sent off for pushing another player, tried to have an argument with the crowd, kicked a microphone and then repeatedly smashed a dressing room door and then blamed the Russian media saying they put a negative spin on things. He comes across as the type of player that if you can get in his head and wind him up he'll kick off.

Maybe, or maybe getting sent off for pushing a player is a joke, maybe he said fuck all to the crowd and who gives a fuck what he did to the door. Big Dunc did far worse and not in an isolated incident.
For what it's worth I don't think he's good enough. But I've watched him many many times for Ireland and Celtic and his attitude was never in question.

His biggest problem is consistency. On his day, he cn actually be quite good, but for the fee and wages is a luxury Everton can't afford.
