Matri pricetag too high at £12M

Reports in Italy claim Everton have approached Juventus about the prospect of signing their striker Alessandro Matri.

The latest reports claim the supposed asking price of £12M is a stumbling block but that Everton are willing to offer the Italian international 20% more in wages than he currently earns with Juve.

Absolute nonsense. Not going to happen. Misquoted the article also. It said the player was looking for 20% more than his current salary not that Everton were offering 20% more. He's 28. Two good seasons under his belt and Everton won't spend that sort of cash except on a guy with great potential. £5M on Kone is one thing. £12M on a guy with roughly the same strike rate and only a year younger is another.

Reasons why this story is wrong:

1) Juve wouldn't want £12million for him... that they just signed Tevez for less, and Llorrente on a free, which has pretty much ended his Juve career and gives quite a good indication re his valuation.

2) We don't have anywhere near £12million to spend.

3) If we approached, it would have been to loan, not buy.

4) We have Kone, Jelavic, Anichebe, not to mention Mirallas who can all play in probably one striking position (plus Vellios).

5) We need a central midfield/AMC much more.

I'd also suggest another wide player is more of a priority than a striker after spending £5mil-ish on Kone.

I know Saviola was interested in coming here from Seville a few years back but we didn't meet his wage demands apparently. However, if we do sign another striker then I wouldn't be surprised if Jelavic is sold.

I'd forgotten what it was like to have so many random links to players I don't know much about. The press seemed to mostly admit defeat towards the end of Moyes' reign.
