Everton in bid for defender Kone

 Comments (52)  jump
Everton have launched a bid for Le Mans centre half, Mory Kone according to L'Equipe.

The French paper reports that the Blues have offered €1m for the 19 year-old who spent time in Paris St Germain's youth ranks and has represented France at U17, U18 and U19 level.

His existing deal still has two years to run but could be tempted by a move to the Premier League following Le Mans' demotion to the third tier in France.

You can never have enough Kones. Especially when its summer and hot outside.

Another little rumour doing the rounds that Hamburg want to bid for Jelavic, may even be a quote from one of their directors. Not sure what the figure would be...anything from £6m upwards would be tempting for me. Not sure Jela is a RM type player but who knows...

Yeh, you need more than one Kone to section a road off. He could come in handy.

Been reading a few articles during the day on this one! He would be for the future, interesting also that Jelavic has been mentioned as the subject of a Hamburg move!

Also observed Phil Jagielka on his Charity Golf Day at Bangor, being interviewed by SSN, mainly about his appointment of Captain, but they did throw in about Messrs Fellaini and Baines, to which he did not say they were staying, or going (to be fair) but mentioned that further reinforcements would be expected should either go!

Wish it would get sorted, so we can start with a group of players who at least know each other!

The last youngster we signed from a relegated Ligue 2 club was Magaye Gueye...

That went well!

Its an omen. Rigsby was played by Leonard Rossiter who starred Reggie Perrin. The remake of Reggie Perrin starred Martin Clunes who was in Men behaving badly with Neil Morrissey. Jonny Morrissey played in the championship winning team of 1970. Get him signed!

Uncanny!
You could also have mentioned that Leonard Rossiter was a well-known Evertonian. Not a lot of people know that.

Mike - when they were researching the Leonard Rossiter episode of 'This is your life', they rang up our house! Even fewer people know that!

True, as well.

I used to sit next to Leonard Rossiter in the top balcony. He always had a pie at half time then would scratch his golden goal ticket. Tragically he'd never seem to have a winning ticket and would put both hands on his hips and say, "My god!" In a slightly bitter tone.

Are You Being Served was a British sitcom that ran from 1972 to 1985 which made use of double-entendre for humorous effect, such as constant reference to Mrs Slocombe's pussy, which is another name for a cat, a small, furry and domesticated mammal, which were semi-revered in Ancient Egypt and often mummified to accompany the dead into the after-life and attend their cat-needs in the future.

Anders Limpar was the victim of TV hoax in 1997, where he was duped into believing that he had travelled two years into the future via a time machine and of course he played in the cup winning side of 95 and who famously started the run which set Graeme Stuart up to hit the crossbar.

I bet it wasn't one of them horrible pork pies (99% grease, 1% fat) they used to serve in Gwladys st. You'd take one bite and get an instant facial of 100% shit on your face.
Kev Johnson
553 Posted 22/07/2013 at 00:15:54
I'll have a go at the old 'Six Degrees of Separation' Robin. Here goes....

Mollie Sugden played pussy-loving Mrs Slocombe in 'Are You Being Served'. She was also in 'The Liver Birds', playing Nerys Hughes mum (with a dodgy Scouse accent).

'The Liver Birds' was written by Liverpudlian Carla Lane, who also wrote the not very funny 'Bread', which featured Melanie Hill as Coraline (again, with a dodgy Scouse accent).

Melanie Hill was married to tough-guy actor Sean Bean, who is a (metaphorically) massive Sheffield United fan (he has a "100% Blades" tattoo). David Unsworth, our (literally) massive CB in the 1995 FA Cup Final, went on to make 39 appearances for Sheffield United between 2005 and 2007.

Phew! I'm exhausted.

He was a down-to-earth meat and potato man. Honest as the day is long. A real gent.

He often left in injury time as he had to "feed the cat".

He was very careful with money and didn't like the way the game was going.

Kev Johnson

"Feed the cat"? Is that a euphemism, Mike? I bet it was Mollie Sugden's cat.

Love these topics that split into odd ball threads where everyone gently meanders along the high ways and by ways of the mind but what is really and truly known about this second Kone.
I would put good money on the improbability of Everton signing two unrelated Kones both of whom from recent and totally unrelated relegated clubs.

Is it just me who has failed to connect the weird tidbits of information so far mentioned by the above writers.
I guess it was somewhere between Mrs Slocumbes pussy and Leonard Rossiters meat and potato pie that I completely lost the plot.

760 Posted 22/07/2013 at 22:57:55
Yes Steve (587) with Phil Okey I think (a Sheffield link Kev Johnson missed out on?).

Ennio Morricone did all the spaghetti western stuff, so we missed out on a thread about 'the good, the bad, and the ugly' and how its all 'for a few dollars more' these days!

Kev Johnson
763 Posted 22/07/2013 at 23:13:57
Paul (674) - yes, I realised that after I'd posted. Coraline is a book by Neil Gaiman and a film by Tim Burton. Aveline isn't.

Dick - I don't think you lost the plot, there never was a plot. No one knows a blind thing about Mory Kone! However, we do now know about Mr Rossiter's half-time pie of choice and (thanks to me) how to get from 'Are You Being Served?' to Everton's 95 Cup winning side in six moves. Swings and roundabouts.

I've heard of traffic cones, but is this Kones traffic?

Leonard Rossiter was in Kubrik's '2001' - has this any bearing on Captain Peacock etc?

And one from the old days (I apologise in advance) - a bobby on his beat was caught short and asked a friendly householder if he may use his privvy. Taken to the end of the yard the constable relieved himself but kept his foot up as the was no bolt on the door. Thanking the man, he advised 'You should have a lock put on there'. 'But who would want to steal a bucket full of sh*t?' came the wise reply. (Thanks dad - I can still hear you chuckling about that one.)

As an new apprentice on Xmas eve I was given a list of companies with the instruction to collect our ringing out machine. At each stop I received seasons greetings and a sealed envelope but no ringing out machine. Feeling my mission had failed I returned to my own firm with pockets bulging with envelopes. Imagine my joy to discover the envelopes contained cash that was my Xmas box. Could that mysterious ringing out machine have been a mangle?

Now if we could be sponsored by KONE Elevators/Lifts of Finland, we could complete the triad.

KONE began its elevator business on the ground floor and is working its way up. The US subsidiary of Finland's KONE sells, manufactures, upgrades, and maintains elevators, escalators, and autowalks. The company's line of products range from eco-friendly (using no oil) traction elevators designed for low-rise office buildings to high-performance elevators used in skyscrapers standing more than 100 stories tall.
