That is the sort of goal-scoring record that we should be looking at (albeit at a decent level) and they are talking about £3-4 M there! I am not sure how old he is now, and what his past record is!

Don't know much about this guy, havent watched Juventus for a while. If he will improve our squad, I am all for it. I suspect we will be priced out for him, sadly!

Matri is to old, to expensive and just not good enough, it would be pointless to sell Jelavic and sign Matri for between 2 to 3 times more money as he's older and has a worse goal scoring record.

Agree with Phil Davies on this one. Apart from Zola most Italian strikers in the prem have been crap.

Brian, Vialli was ok, Casiraghi and Ravanelli were rubbish IMO (in the prem that is). I always wanted to see Del Piero and Inzaghi play in England but it was not to be,

I've just seen on another site that Fulham are in for Pablo Osvaldo for £6.8M. He's a much better player than Matri, great goal record and only 25 years old and wants to come to the Prem.

And I see Norwich are buying well: Hooper for £5M. I think they will have a good season; top 10 finish...

Agree with Phil for the same reasons. I think Jelavic could be a revelation this year - he's a natural goalscorer and this season could have the assistance he needs. Would rather see Felly go than Baines but would be pretty happy if both stay

It'd be great to get past this "28 is too old" thing. Not all players need to be bought as some kind of trade where we get them in their late teenage years for a premium only to release them for free because we've forgotten to get them to sign a contract or they're simply not developing as we'd have hoped.

28 is not too old. 32... possibly, but it depends on the player.

12m for a 28 year old - firstly do we even have 12m (doubtful without selling first) and secondly would we shell out that much for an untried (in the prem) 28 year old?

The TV money will mostly end up in players wages. As all the Prem clubs are getting more TV money this will lead to the wages of all players increasing when their contracts come up (on average). It's simple supply and demand. We may have a couple of years before the new wage levels establish themselves and the surplus cash this generates will be frittered away on transfer fees.

This has been the pattern with every new TV deal. The clubs remains skint. God help them if the TV contracts start falling in value - look at Scotland.
